Me, sometimes he talks too fast that you can't understand his jokes/points.
If you don't like Yahtzee's style but still want reasons to hate Gamestop, then try this on for size:

He's got about 7 videos about Gamestop. Enjoy!

As much as I dislike gamestop.

The point is this... the agreements on licenses of software are down right over the line illegal.

The amount of power they want over a product is insane. You don't tell me what to watch on my tv, how to play my game, how not to play my game unless it is in a public venue and we are keeping fairness.

Imagine if car companies told you, hey you can not sell or trade in your car. You must destroy it. I'd tell them where to go. What modifications you could make, paint color or radio upgrades?

Or you can only make a hamburger out of ground meat. If you want meat balls you must buy them premade for 20 bucks more. Screw that.

Consumers have rights, and oddly these licenses and rules that go far beyond making a game and controlling it in a suitable reasonable manner is just out of control.

And sorry the debate of "You don't like it don't buy the game." wrong, their contractual end is in violation. Not me, I buy the game I play it. If they put in the contract I use a cheat code I have to give them my first born...guess what, invalid.

The entire video game industry needs a revamping, and first is Activision only has the following rights of its software outside of copy right as i will give them as a user.

I will not copy or pirate the game.
I will not cheat online, single player? Suck it. I have a life no time to grind.
I will not sell mods for profit.

That's it.

Oh and for MMO's I will not make my own private server to profit from either.

Other than that, I pay, I play, Activison is no longer in my life.

BTW KIDS

Best Buy, BEST BUY is doing the used game thing now as well... Game Stop has competition. And you think they can stack up to Best Buy?

I don't believe that Gamestop will sell you a used game at full price
Not to argue with the rest of your post, but I bought one just a couple of weeks ago. It was old enough that "full price" was $9.99, so it didn't really bother me, but it was technically in a used state. Specifically, they remove their new games from the shrink wrap, put the discs and manuals in a sleeve which they keep behind the counter, and then put the empty box out on display. Rather than lowering the asking price for these damaged goods, Gamestop charges full price for them, and people happily pay. They also put price stickers directly on the box, instead of on some form of shrinkwrap, and it's almost impossible to completely get rid of the residue if you decide to remove it; Gamestop is not the best place to go if you want something in mint condition.
How exactly is "full price" 9.99? "Full price" means MSRP. I don't think they would replace the original boxes and sell them as used if they didn't have to. They would just replace the stickers instead of spending the money.

Don't get me wrong; they're definitely crooks.
It was a copy of Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection, which was released in 2005, but is still sold at an MSRP of $9.99. They were selling it as new, despite the fact that they had already opened it and pulled everything out -- which is what they do with almost all of their "new" games.

Meh, if you dont like gamestop dont buy/sell there.

Personally, if i buy a game im keeping it unless its truly truly bad because more often than not when im bored ill go back and play some of my older games for fun.
it's the same problem here in the UK, people complain about game, how the games are too expensive and that you don't get much for a trade in. If you don't like it don't do it, there are other shops go to them if you want, means the queue will be shorter for me!

If what they're doing is so illegal, than why the heck hasn't anyone sued them already? Companies sue for copyright infringement and go after pirates; why haven't they taken on this company that has (allegedly) lost them many millions of dollars? Why haven't their customers sued them for (supposed) false advertising or formed a class action suit?

As for profit, they have every right to charge as much as they want for what they sell. They have every right to offer as little as they want for what they want to buy. The fact that people are trading with them in large numbers indicate that the prices they have chosen are right, economically speaking.

Just finished watching the entire series. Sadly, the narrator has dreadful diction, and it is extremely difficult to understand what he's saying at times. This is a shame because A) he has something important to say; and B) some of his gags are pretty good.

I'm also extremely impressed that he managed to bash out what must have been well over 1000 panels of art to support his 90-minute rant. This is a [em]hell[/em] of a lot of work, as I can personally attest.

Finally, everyone claiming he's not funny obviously hasn't paid any attention to the sight gags. The joke density isn't as high as in Yahtzee's work, but it's still creditable. As an example, here's a still I clipped from near the very end of his rant that made me stop the video to laugh. The narration over it is: "The Internet loves when you hate on things so much, it can lead to a 400% increase in site traffic."

I think of it this way...what else is there if Gamestop were gone? Infact, yes, its unfair, but more likely I would just let the game rot. So useless disc or 5$? My only problem with Gamestop, is I wish they would have better quality control for used stuff. I know theres only what they get, but I want to know I am not just getting the crappiest disc they have on hand. I bought CoD2 used, and it was covered in crud. It worked, but yuck...

That's part of the point the video was making: [em]You[/em] are GameStop's quality control department.

Although GameStop policy may say that trade-ins have to be checked for quality, GameStop [em]practice[/em] is that employees do no such thing. They don't have time or, in some cases, the expertise. The quality of used game discs is checked by [em]you[/em], the used game buyer. Moreover, you are performing this service for GameStop for free. Once you flag a disc as defective, only then does it get sent to some facility somewhere to be resurfaced. Maybe.

The way GameStop's business is structured, they are [em]never[/em] going to spend employee hours rigorously checking discs, since they've successfully out-sourced that function to [em]you[/em].

I know let's ban capitalism while we are at it.

If you feel like they are ripping off you, just go and buy your games elsewhere, they will start listening when they start noticing drop in their bank accounts.

Free marker, company that responds to the Demand of the market. If you go and punish Gamestop from being profit seeking company you are killing capitalism and free market. I have always got good deals and good service from my Gamestop, so If you try to take away their right of be on the Free market I will be there personally to defend them.

You are not forced to buy from them, go and take your money elsewhere.

Um, what you're seeing here is the Free Market in action. A former employee is giving you information about GameStop you didn't have before. (Or maybe you did; that was a guess on my part.)

His message is the following: "GameStop pays less for your used games than you'll find almost everywhere else; sells used games for more than everywhere else; misrepresents used games as new; makes no meaningful effort to ensure its used games are in salable condition; inconsistently, if ever, enforces its publicly-stated policies; and underpays its employees and treats them poorly. If you're okay with that -- if posting enormous quarterly profits to shareholders in your mind trumps all those abuses -- then fine, continue to shop at GameStop. If you're [em]not[/em] okay with that, you might want to consider taking your business elsewhere."

How is any of that contrary to the intended operation of the Free Market?

Just watched video #3, which was essentially 18 minutes of bashing everyone who's ever shopped at Gamestop. Just who is this dipshit seeking empathy from? He claims the expectation that gamestop employees know anything about games is unrealistic. Why is this guy not a lawyer yet?

Got through maybe 2 min of the video. Horrible video.

With that said

If anyone buys from Gamestop they deserve what they get. I have to admit I die a little inside when I see some kid with 20 games and a 360 turn it into Gamestop for $100. But it is up to them to get ripped off.

All my video game purchases come from Amazon now. Find it cheaper and I usually get it next day anyways.

Gamestop is the only gaming store near me that isn't WalMart. I realized long ago that the trade-in system is a rip off (though, I don't ever sell my games), but I've found used games cheaper than I could online.

Though, I still hope to get a vintage game shop near me.

I was just reminded of another parallel. College-level textbooks. Overpriced, poorly constructed shit that they are. When you try to return them, a semester later, in damn near-mint condition, the same stores will offer you a tiny fraction of the price ($300/$60 or worse). So I came up with the idea of posting ads for the books I was selling/buying all over campus (this was long before craig's list). I could charge a helluvah lot more than $60 to sell directly to another student and he would still spend a lot less than $300. So we were both circumventing the store altogether and we were both benefiting. Of course, ultimately they started updating the books every semester/year and the students officially weren't allowed to use the "out of date" editions. The only significant difference? The page layout was different so they had to do a tremendous amount of extra work following the syllabus. Too bad so many students march and demonstrate rather than contacting their congressman, huh?

Any time I would agree with you that he's "kinda good" I also have to acknowledge that it's because he's spent a lot of time watching Zero Punctuation so those "kinda good" jokes are directly stolen and then modified to disguise the source - a pale simulacrum of the real thing.

This is like the guy who seems interesting because he knows a lot about David Cross and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Eventually he runs out of Family Guy references and you realize that he has nothing original at all to say. It's okay. I was once 16 and had a sense of humor pathetically dependent on Dr. Evil references. This guy is in or approaching his 30's.

He's also incredibly stupid. He doesn't even appear to get Yatzhee, just that Yatzhee is popular and therefore must have appeal (in this regard he was a perfect fit for a corporate entity like Gamestop). He starts out with "Part 1," in which he spends about 5 minutes telling us that he's about to tell us why we shouldn't do business with Gamestop. So he must've known who THE AUDIENCE HE PICKED TO MAKE THE VIDEOS WERE by the time he got to "Part 3 Part 1" and "Part 3 Part 2" ( < intellectual leviathon ) and spent more than 10 minutes describing his view that every single customer who walks into a gamestop is retarded and worthless and mean-spirited, THEN spends more than 10 minutes describing how every single gamestop employee is also retarded and worthless. At one point he said "my store is different" and I laughed because if that's the case, then how would he know that gamestop employees are lazy and won't pull their part of the workload and that general managers love sucking Satan's cock? Did he read it in Spin?

Wow.

The confusion of ideas on display makes me wonder how any of these people ever make it all the way through Atlas Shrugged.

But please, feel free to see Soviet Communists lurking under your bed and sapping your precious bodily fluids while you sleep. The rest of us will be making informed shopping decisions based on the best information available.

Newsflash: GameStop over-prices it's used games.

/yawn.

To be honest, I like GameStop. Do I trade in games there? No. Though I will buy used there. Do I know I'm paying more? Yes. But, I've never gotten a disk that doesn't work. Never been scammed by online sellers. They also offer (last I check) a 7-day used return for full refund, no questions asked (PC excluded, but considering DRMs, makes sense).
