Here in Ireland I bought Killzone 3 for 50 euro, for the steel box edition.

Cleared the game, was let down by it, so six days later I returned to trade it in. Got 45 euro store credit. Now I don't know about the rest of the world but that's essentially a 6 day rental for 5 quid. Which going off the local xtravision price is the renal fee for a new game for a single night.

Infact I was in Argos one day and saw them selling Dead Space 2 for 20 euro not 3 weeks after game release. I snapped up 3 copies which Gamestop were still offering 40 euro trade-in value for. I really cant see people problem with the store.

Nah, his style is kinda annoying, I shouldn't have to adjust the volume louder just to here a long running joke. Especially if he's not gonna get to the highlight of his joke/points at a reasonable pace and speak as if he's rushing to take a piss.

No offense...

Gamestop is fine. If you dont like them dont go there. I have traded in tons of games for decent cash to cut down the price on a midnight release. I have also picked up a few gems of games for under $10 that I otherwise would have never played.

If you dont like gamestop dont buy from them, if enough people feel the same way you do they will go out of business. I dont really see what the problem is with them is.

If your stupid enough to think you'll get a good deal at gamestop in the first place then theres a good chance that no matter what anyone says you'll continue using the trade service

Pointless thread is pointless

Old, old, OLD news.

It's still a great rant, and fun to watch. But the fallout from Gamestop's exposure has already been touched upon here, and months ago at that.

If you want the short of it: Gamestop exploits arbitrage and cheap labor to turn amazing profits, bought out its competition, and grew to its current size as a result. I don't do business with them anymore both out of a sense of decency/ethics and because I can find much better deals with firms who actually competitively price their new games.

If you don't like Yahtzee's style but still want reasons to hate Gamestop, then try this on for size:

He's got about 7 videos about Gamestop. Enjoy!
That guy was super useless, worse than the Yahtzee wannabe. Former employees of a company complaining about how unfair their former employer was are a dime a dozen. "Oooh they didn't give me a big fat raise! They didn't promote me!" I'll give you three guesses why they didn't give you a raise or promote you (hint, it rhymes with "you are a crappy useless worker who doesn't know jack shit about retail and the sales industry")

My gosh, some people think being an assistant manager at a small retail store is some sort of high falootin' position that should be getting major corporate pay and raises. You are still a peon and until you put in the hard work, that's what you will stay.

Excuse me? How is anything that GameStop does illegal? Sure, the trade-in program is a rip off, but you don't have to use it.

wow! Gamestop sounds like a hell-hole, it boggles my mind people bother to work there instead of Mc.Donalds!
Also there is a article on the escapist about a ex-gamestop employee.

Used games do nothing for the industry, apart from create these leaching mini industries that exploit both customers, employees, and games developers.

Buy a game new or don't buy it at all.

If it works, they're not going to change it.

Don't blame Gamestop for cashing in on negligence.

Yeah I mean when I buy a new car I make sure to keep the old one laying around because I'd hate for someone else to not buy a new car and instead use the perfectly good one I have laying around.

Last time I moved I set my old house on fire, wouldn't want to not help out the contractor industry.

After I'm done with a good book? Well I used to rip it up and use it for toilet paper, then I realized that doesn't help the TP industry. I was gonna burn it, but sure wouldn't want to deprive some oil company of my hard-earned ducketts. Maybe I'll compost those.

It is inconceivable that someone resell something they no longer want!

No BS, if you whine about the used game market not "helping the industry" you are a hypocrite. And I've heard it all. "Expensive to develop, can't sell enough, blah blah"

How much do you think it costs to design a roadway vehicle, to pass testing and get all the gov't approval necesary. Then they have to actually build the units. Some asshole in a plant has to sit there and slap all the pieces together. They don't get to design one car and slam out as many as they want for a mere pennies per unit after fixed costs.

So what to they do? They offer a service to corner the used market. Certified pre-owned from dealer networks. Take in a car, clean it up, guarantee it for a while. Why don't game companies buy back used games directly and kick some cash toward the former owner towards a new game.

Instead they ***** and moan about people not buying new. The constant assault on the used market is a travesty and is what really needs to be stopped.

Comparing the housing or motor industries is ridiculous. They provide products that have a far longer lifespan, a far lower amount of resale ability, and have a vastly different production price/value ratio. Simple maths. Even books. How much does a book cost to make? How many people are involved in the process?

Simply put, games NEED to shift x amount of products in order to break even, but when popular titles are bought up to 9 times more used than new, then they are getting ripped off. You shouldn't try and justify your own selfishness with a terrible example

It's not rediculous at all. Simply put, anyone that makes anything needs to shift X number of units to break even. Games are not special in this regard, and get numerous advantages in that they have extremely low per unit cost. Manufacturers of traditional products have things like labor and factories to worry about. How much does it cost to have a batch of discs pressed? Like 5 cents per? Plunk down a few million to start manufacturing a physical product and you might be making a 3-5% margin on it.

I really don't get the people pissed at Gamestop.

It's a pawn shop for games, nothing more. When you sold your "whatever-it-is" at a pawn shop and they gave you 50$ for it, you knew they were gonna sell it for at least 100-125$ right ?

What's the problem with huge margins for a used gamestore ?

I'm not talking about the losing reservations or the "take-new-game-out-of-the-box" thing, just the margins...it's like you people are surprised businesses are making money...

I mean, really ?

While I am not in America, I can relate, kinda.

They don't need to stop, they need competition.

I love me my Gamestop. They don't take out manuals, my games are bought unopened. Plus the staff is great!
Same. The staff at the store I frequent (Which is oddly enough #420) are always helpful, and have a certain wit about them. They deal well with children, which is more than can be said about a lot of gamers. Plus, they let me get rid of games I no longer wish to play, to put towards a new experience.
