Nice animations, quarter staff especially. That abundant step is good too, kept wishing for some slow fall on walls, wall running, tumbling, slides, rolls, flips... Hehe, IMHO, Jade Empire has the best monk animations I have seen so far but things like Assassin's Creed and this Freerunning game I saw on Youtube once do some really nice stuff as well. And anything is better than the basic monk animations of NWN1, totally had to find some fan made ones to replace those =P

So, anything on any of my other questions and comments?
You get more attacks than you see in that video, there is a back flip kick later.

Quivering palm can 1 shot stuff, if they fail save, and is tied to Ki so not 1ce per day, etc.

You can climb ladders, jump on stuff, if you can jump high enough to a ledge you can pull yourself up. You can use terrain against your opponents. In DDO it is acceptable to use this to your advantage. SO you pull the baddy to a place you can jump/climb to and range them.

But then my halfling monk hates ranging things. I am here to go all Ong Bak on things, not pew pew pew shoot stuff. That is for those girly rangers. ;)

Slow fall is my friend. I never use feather fall anymore. You can tumble and with Mobility feat it lowers your ac. Higher skill in tumble ends up being flips and such. No wall running though. In early beta they had where you could grab a ledge and kind fo shimmy along before you climbed up but took it out. :(

Jade Empire is awesome, I wish that Bioware did a Jade Empire Online rather than SW:TOR.
You have no idea how much I want to watch your halfling monk go Ong Bak on things. =D

In spirit of the OP, here's why I play DDO:

1) Active Combat (and collision detection) - There's no standing there with auto attack on (well, there is, but it's not as effective); arrows and (most) spells aren't heat-seeking missiles - attacks have to be precise and can be dodged as well; choke points can be blocked by the tanks; etc.

2) Character Customization - there may be 10 class "icons", but there are literally thousands of actual character possibilities (thanks to being able to freely allocate skills, and feats, as well as multiclass). You get to make your character into whatever you want, and you don't necessarily have to pick only one certain class to achieve a particular end. This does come at a cost: namely a fairly steep learning curve, but the journey to finding out how you want to make your character is half the fun, and well worth it.

don't forget those that are coming to try DDO, every server I hear has a help channel.

most of the time you can just type:
/joinchannel help
/1

Yeah . . . and the help channels will work even on trial accounts. Good call, Lerincho!

Side note: I think I have realized what problem I had with DDO. I was expecting something...that something being D&D. I think I might consider going back.
Always remember three things with respect to D&D vs. DDO

1. Rule 0
2. Turbine is the DM
3. House rules

I've never played at a D&D game that went strictly 100% by-the-book (especially with the 3.x ruleset), so it was no surprise to me to sit down at DDO and find I was playing under some house rules.
Exactly, alot of people forget that part.

And for the sake of an MMO, the house rules make sense.

I agree with (1).

I also enjoy the instanced dungeons in DDO. No more waiting for the boss to spawn only to have some zerger come in and steal your kill. On the other hand, no chance for someone to cull the other baddies out of the dungeon to make zerging in to kill the boss easier either. ;)

It's great to play a game where levelling up doesn't involve a grind (in the traditional sense).

So I finally get around to installing it... and I'm getting nonstop runtime errors. Even while downloading errors... lots of them.

Grrr.

Ah, I think I see what I did wrong... let's see if I can fix this.
I hope you get your error issues worked out but more importantly I hope you have a fantastic gaming experience and really enjoy the game.

Thanks. I think it's because I originally tried downloading this then I ended up pausing the download for later. Then I turned off my computer and later turned it on realizing I had not finished the download so I did what any other clueless person would do and start the download after deleting my already downloaded .bins, so actually I only had 3 .bins.

I'll try just downloading the first three then pausing the download and try the install again. If it still doesn't work I'll let it keep going redownloading the .bins I do have.

EDIT: So which server do I start on again? ;)

I am an avid City of Heroes/Villains player with almost 4 years of time wrapped up in it... but if it didn't exist, I would have probably been on DDO. I did play the Beta and felt it was pretty broken as you stated, but I saw the potential. And from what people are saying about the community, they sound like they're as great as the CoH crowd.

Like you, I was a fan of 2nd Edition AD&D back when TSR was still around, and all of the artwork looked like or were Boris Vallejo paintings (and everyone was illustrated with wild 80s hair. Good times!)

I'm also not a fan of the Ebberon setting, I would have preferred DDO to be in the Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, or Mystara. I don't play much table-top D&D anymore so I get my fix with Neverwinter Nights 2 and the various player-made campaigns. There's even persistent online worlds for it which I have yet to check out...

Nice to see you're getting your enjoyment out of DDO though. :)

The trial site is not working for me to make a trial account... hmmm... any way I can link a trial to my existing LOTRO subscription?

EDIT: So it's somewhat working now... most of the images show up on the page. But now it is telling me to copy the text on an image that won't load. Turbine can not be serious.

How steep are the system requirements? Lotro chugged a bit on my system, but it plays WoW and Half life 2 well. It has 1gb of RAM and an Nvidia 7300 GS. If I can run it, I will likely buy it.
