You should look up half life, full life consequences. That will cure any need to read fan fiction.

Probably because he was the only available love interest for real girls that didn't impose some kinda creepy sexual taboo on them.

what happens in them that is so bad (half life not the last part)
ummm watch this and you will see why fan fic is a scary place.

i thought that was pretty funny to be honest
Ah but the trick is. It wasn't meant to be funny.

I killed him in 1 just because I was under the impression he was better suited to set the bomb from the dialogue, but he seems like a much more reasonable human character than fucking Ashley, the racist *****. In any case, romancing Garrus is like romancing Batman's more socially adept cousin, not everyone wants a blue lesbian lover, Thane is a bit detached to really get into, and romancing Jacob is pretty much romacing any other space marine. Strangely enough, the humans also seem more fleshed out than the aliens on the ship, perhaps because it's kind of difficult to relate to imaginary aliens. In any case, the more 3-dimensional a guy is, the easier it is to imagine a relationship with him. That's probably why.

Same here. He was too flat and uninteresting in an epic Sci-fi story. I totally went alien only with my squad and romances. Humans are the most boring race ever if you ask me.
As a budding anthropologist I would have to respectfully disagree. x3

Does "because he's awesome" answer your queries? No? There is a lovable male character in virtually all BW games (and I've romanced them all~). Carth, Sky, Alistair, etc. For me, Kaidan wins out because he is less pushy as a romantic option but not as apathetic as Carth (or as old...). Anyway, he's just a good guy. And for me, the romance options were no good in ME2, so it was easy to stay loyal to him. :]

I see what you're saying and I probably overreacted saying I hated him. I don't really hate him. The only time he actually annoys me is when he hits on my FemShep cuz I see him more as an older brother than a romantic interest. And I wasn't trying to make a hate thread. In fact, I told people not to post why they hate him. I was mostly just trying to understand what people found attractive about him romantically.
But you kind of gave your unspoken permission for people to hate on him by saying that you do (in your OP) hence my reply and the replies of other Kaidan fans, iyswim?
Anyway, no matter, thanks for the polite and well reasoned response :)
The thing is you can't actually define what makes someone romantically attractive, it would be like trying to work out why my husband and I are attracted to each other, lol!
Put simply, if you are a heterosexual guy, you aren't meant to find him attractive, just as I don't find Ashley sexy at all, but I do like her (as I mentioned) You are looking for something you will never see in the same way that I will never understand what men see in say, Jennifer Tilly, I just don't get it at all, it befuddles me ;-)
To condense it - He is an attractive character model, has the single sexiest voice ever (and yes we have all seen Sbarge and don't care) he is just the right level of manly + romantic without being a girl about it and when he says ''Shepard, you are hard to step away from....'', well *swoons*
Anyway I hope you have some answers now ;-)
ok id like to say this and im quoteing you since you seem to be part of the group i might have problems with if i dont explain my last post. ok i thot he came off as a prick and i did try to be his friend(was a total paragon:)that being said i was pissed when i had to chose between him and ash:( i mean i didnt like the guy as a squad mate but i had him on the ship for so long i guess i just got used to him. now i am a male gamer and i have no intrest in playing a fem shep but thats mostly do to the fact that i dont want to play mass effect 1 again not that i wont play a female character in other games in fact my favort save on dragon age is my female warrior:) (mostly cause i like watching tuff guys get their asses kicked by a girl half their hight:)I beleave if your not secure enoth to play a girl in a game youve got real issuses:)
Well BioWare are frequently at fault with this kind of thing tbh, with Jacob as a female gamer I come off as a creepy lech just saying hello to Jacob, Jennifer Hale does not do up front seduction well at all...............

Anyway, my point is BioWare fall down when it comes to befriending characters (of either sex) that are available as LI's. Take Jack, as a male Shepard you can unlock a vulnerable Jack who shows you who she is, as a femshep she just blows you off after you have taken time talking to her and putting her past to rest. I don't like her at all she is mouthy and rude because BioWare won't let me be just her friend. Those guys really need to sort this out, tbh!
Kaidan is difficult to get to know, if you don't romance him and it is a shame he would make a great buddy for Shep if BioWare had bothered to write that part of Kaidan better! :)

I was mentioning to the fact I found it considerable boring that I HAVE to play a human in an epic sci-fi trilogy. I want to be a Turian because in comparision, they are much more interesting and rather 'cool'. Yes, I said it, cool.

Well, as Turians are simply humans with a different physical appearance and a more militaristic mindet, the fact remains. I really enjoy looking at the alien races to see the variations of humanity noticed by the creators, and given visual distinctions to match their mental predispositions. Krogan built for tribal skirmishes, turians for modern warfare, asari for diplomacy, elcor the socially stunted among us, the volus those that must rely on their wits over their strength, the Salarians those who are excellent but burn out fast, the quarians a very interesting mix of Jewish history and Muslim dress code, the batarians those who refuse to see the validity of others' arguments or existences, the vorcha the lowest of classes of people today which exist in every society, the drell a depiction of our future selves. It's all very interesting.

I liked Kaidan, but he was certainly not Garrus. Or Wrex. Or Mordin. Or Liara. Or Tali. Or Kasumi. Or Joker. Or Doc Chak.

I don't know, he was pretty bland. But he was unobtrusively bland and also a biotic. And if he appears on the Normandy in ME2, he wears that pink and white armor that Ashley starts with. I laughed the entire time because it was such a serious moment and he looked like an idiot in that armor.

Wow, I thought others liked Kaidan too...him, Liara and Garrus were my faves from ME1.

I don't know why I liked him, I just formed a bond with him (male Sheperd by the way). Although Garrus absolutely kicks his ass in every way.

EDIT: And can someone explain how it's possible to like Ashley? She's such a xenophobic *****.

I absolutely savoured my chance to kill her, and her resulting death.
I loved Ashley, we have the same way of thinking so to speak, sure i didnt hate Aliens as much as her but in my eyes it was always humanity first. I enjoyed every conversation i had with her, shes just my kinde of person. Wow i cant belive im talking about a computer program as if it were human.

Well I'm guessing that that fanfic are probably more popular among girls because guys don't have the same inclination to write or to make up stories focusing around games/establish characters. Now of course as people we tend to write about things that are interesting to us. In a fanfic perhaps a character that we identify with or someone that the author had a crush on or something. If our authors have a female biases and the ladies enjoy kaiden then a larger portion of stories will be written about him. Alternatively, maybe its just a coincidence.

I didn't hate Kaiden, but I did think his character wasn't as defined as the other party members. The only really interesting part was the incident with his former Turian instructor (roundhouse kick FTW!). Ashley may have been a bit too coarse and xenophobic, but at least she was a much more developed character. Besides, you eventually come to understand the reasons for her outspoken opinions, which further adds to the "actual person" vibe.

Maybe I'm a sucker for drama, but I chose to leave Ashley to die precisely because I liked her MORE than Kaiden. It makes the decision and its consequences all the more weighty if it means killing off a character you actually liked.

Popular? To me it seems like everyone hates him.

Anyhow, I choose him as the "romantic interest" for my shepard, because he seemed like the "normal" guy, he wasn't a badass, a war hero or whatever, he was an average-looking guy, got picked on in school, had his faults, but managed to get somewhere on his own. Just felt that he should get the girl for once.

I used Kaidan as my romance option because my bf (who played a male sheperd) had already done Liara. I never used Ashley in combat because I played a soldier, and therefore had no use for her at all. I played a female (obvs), but I found them both (Kaidan and Liara) attractive.

I didn't like him for some reason. Maybe the voice actor is the same as Carth Onasi, who annoyed the hell out of me. :|
I didn't find his story interesting or compelling, just boring. Killed him off with no regrets! ^.^

People liked Carth- I mean Kaiden? That's news to me.

He reminded me of a slightly less annoying version of Carth Onasi from KOTOR (Which isn't saying much). Might be the same voice actor, that's probably it.

Just adding another:
"What, people liked him?"

He was a douche.

I didn't hate Ashley though, so maybe that changes things? Who knows.

[sub]I thought Alistair was a pretty cool guy[/sub]

you see, I didn't know about the choice on Virmire (I know some people had it ruined for them before their first play through) so when the option came up "Save Ash/ Save Kaiden" and I thought if I didn't help him then the bomb wouldn't go off so I saved him.

Besides, I found Ash a bit whiny and I was gonna pull Liara anyway!

I dunno, he was Shepards 2nd in Command, and since it was either him or Ashely... I chose Ashley.
Although he sounded liek a wife in ME2, I thought he was a pretty cool guy
Actually Navigator Presley was the Normandy's XO.

OT: Never really thought Kaiden was that popular. Maybe its because everyone hates Ashley for some dumb reason.

My best guess would be he was the only romanceable human male...

Certainly not his oh-so-bland personality, though he had a nice voice.

(Hackett's voice was better haha...)
