Why is Metal the dominant music genre on internet gaming forums?

i think metal is popular with a certain segment of the younger crowd. i remember listening to a lot of Green Day and Tool in high school and thinking that was cool. but then i moved on to Minor Threat and Operation Ivy and eventually New Order and The Clash. I'd call that progress.

Refinement and taste come with age.

For the record, I already listen to Crystal Castles. They are awesome. Chiptune music is growing in popularity.

Now I'll be honest and say I don't really like Metal, but I've noticed that for some reason on every internet gaming forum I go on or look at, Metal is by a country mile the most popular music genre, and this place is no exception.

...

I don't want to attribute all gamers to one taste because that's ignorant;
People who are on internet gaming forums are a subset of the greater set of people that are gamers--don't look just for a connection between gaming and metal fans (because there isn't one); look for a connection between the kind of gamer that spends a lot of time on internet gaming forums and metal.
Ah yes, I suppose you're right. That makes this question even harder :S

Did they get their name from Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge? If so, that's auto awesome.
Nah, they're named after the Crystal Castle from the She-ra franchise.

And to everyone else expressing their love for Crystal Castles - they are awesome, yes.

This sounds very videogame-esque as well, if anyone's interested. It's also awesome.

I don't like metal. If you were to compare music to martial artists, heavy metal would be a warrior of the Maori tribes. It is harsh, brutal, angry, mad, and utterly uncivilized. It may very well be effective at accomplishing what it set out to do, but only people who delude themselves could consider it a joy to spectate at its performance. Take these opinions as simply that: opinions.
actually you've got your analogy very wrong. metal is overly civilized and overly complex in it's execution compared to most other genres of music out there. the funny part is a lot of the most celebrated and top guitarists are metal guitarists

with other guitar based genres you don't see people say "wow that guy is the best guitarist ever" but with metal you do. punk for the most part is the uncivilized, uneducated genre of music, when it started out most didn't know how to play their instruments.

i've been to all types of concerts over the years and frankly there's nothing like some good guitarist doing a monster solo for a few minutes. you don't see that at punk shows, alternative shows, industrial shows, electronica shows, rap shows, you only see it at a metal show

Could just be that metal is the most dominant genre anywhere.
Er no it isn't, ever see it dominate the charts? Thought so..

Anyway I think its because of most gamers are elitist fucks who think theyre special people who feel they are loners and hated and metal connects to that. No offense ofcourse (and the striked part was joked ish)

I'm glad metal doesn't dominate the charts because when it did for a while back in the late nineties it got watered down and diluted into utter piss.

Fred Durst.... uuuurghhh......

Metallica and Maiden still get number one albums, but not singles.

I guess forum members are a bit more alternative, and that metal is rising to be more popular. Personally, I love metal. It's the best genre ever in my opinion.

I thinks is because every different type of music gives a different pleasure for instance indie music is nice and mellow relaxing however metal gets the adrenalin pumping its an action music its fast its quick it gets you pumped and exited games do roughly the same thing so people who want to get the rush from listening to metal end up liking games when they find out that it gives the same rush

Just think about when you run round the corner in CS:S or COD4 with you shotgun and oh shit reaction trigger press and boom head shot rember how pumped that makes you feel now think about when you first listened to an awesome heavy metal guitar solo same feeling amarite?
Now imagine playing a fast and furious FPS multilayer no rest while listening to metal .... ok so now imagine playing a fps while listening to R.E.M not a exiting right? But Imagine listening to R.E.M while chilling out camping in a warm night they fit.

Also if you check you will probably find that people who are huge metal fan like playing FPS games

Amateur psychology mode off

Cause Rap sucks and Metal fits alot of the numerous action-filled game? Thats my reasoning as to why.
Your just an ignorant twat. Your a dumb ass for generalizing rap as all being shit. i hate most metal but i don't say "oh all metals shit". some songs are good (mainly ones without scremo).

Could you really imagine a gamer playing a game to pop?
Metal gets adrenaline going......... it really helps sometimes.(i should know, i'm a gamer.)

EDIT: before i get flamed for that, quite a lot of different genres of music help when playing, but hey, everyone likes their own thing.

I say we need some heavier shit to be fair. Maybe some Killwhitneydead, Suicide Silence, Parkway Drive?

Nah to be fair Metal is used a lot in video game soundtracks, but not all. Take Fallout3 for example, I actually enjoying listening to the songs on the radio during my questing through the Wasteland as much as I do when I'm listening to the above shown band when I'm playing Left 4 Dead or Resident Evil 5.

And when I used to play Oblivion, well I used to listen to the Dresden Dolls over and over and over.

Because it's an ever expanding genre. Pretty simple reason in a way.
Aren't all genres expanding? If you compare anything from jazz to hip hop that is being produced today, to what was being produced, say, twenty years ago, you will hear major differences. Jazz has moved from things like Acid and Afro-Cuban jazz in the eighties to the rise in popularity of Smooth Jazz in the 1990s and 2000s. East Coast hip hop, with an emphasis in lyrical dexterity was commmon in the eighties, and has inspired the expansion of the genre into the West Coast, and into the South with crunk. What about metal is more "ever expanding" than other genres?
I never said it is more expanding than other genres, did I?
You made the original statement as if that was something that separated metal from other genres. If it isn't, then what were you trying to say?

I don't know why everyone else favours Metal or anything similar. I know the reason I get into that music is because it isn't on the radio. It's not getting butchered like everything else, plus Rap, Hip Hop, Pop etc just don't appeal to me anymore.
