Everyone rules around criticizing them for everything they do, so why bother anymore? Besides don't you think they're busy and already are? They've dumped tons into Occupy movements. They have been shouting their heads off for years. Hell they should get props for being good enough people not to be handing out I-told-you-so's as if they were free mints.

What really boggles my mind is how anyone can say that the two (anons and SOPA and company) are 'just as bad for the internet'? Really someone explain this to me, not say it or shout it again. An honest explanation in as non-biased a form as possible.

Because acting now would only give pro-SOPA activists more ammunition. If SOPA passes, Anonymous will take necessary (and radical) action. Trust me.

Seriously, They've occasionally been dicks and have definitely done stuff to gain the hate of many.
But These two acts are the sum of everything they hate, if they attacked Jean Simmons because went against their ideals, why aren't they attacking something that threatens to destroy the internet by massive Censorship.
Oh and here's another thing
on a different train of thought Who the hell does the US congress think its is? the internet is everywhere, like in Canada. SO they are imposing on international affairs, seriously this isn't legal.
They already said they're going after Sony, MS, Ninty, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian for supporting this bill.

Hold on a second. They did raise awareness on 4chan with links about SOPA and the song "ro ro fight the power" playing nonstop. This was about a month or so ago, but they did try to get as many people involved as possible through the website.

Have you seen the internet at this very moment?

Try accessing Universal, WMG or other sites.

Also check on hashtag #j18 or #megaupload.

No one in Anonymous has the time with school.
Their activity completely dropped off when high school and college started back up.

I think Anonymous knows, that them taking action now would just gibe ammunition to SOPA- and PIPA-supporters.

But the gods may help those who stood behind SOPA, if it gets pass. For that part I count on them.

Also: They are helping by spreading the and, as far as I remember, bringing forward the idea for the blackout.

I think it's two things. One, neither SOPA nor PIPA have passed.

And two, because of that, anything they do would cause more harm than good. Think about it: the vast majority of people (and ESPECIALLY news outlets) do not trust Anonymous. We're rather literate in the ways of the Internet, so we know better. But everyone else sees them as anarchistic cyber-terrorists out to cause trouble above all else. So anything Anonymous gets behind is automatically going to lose credibility.

They're aware of this image, so they're lying low for the time being so that the Internet can get as little negative press as possible. Anything they do right now will only give the supporters of SOPA and PIPA even more ammo to use against us, allowing them to not only say this is a crime problem but a cyber-security problem. Which is total nonsense, yes, but the ignorant public won't know the difference and it'll be enough to do a lot of damage.

Because the law hasnt passed.

Also, the anon hangouts already link to the ANTI SOPA nad PIPA sites.

furthermore, anon is broad term, it is not a singular group of hackers on steroids.

The war has begun. We can't let this happen. We can't let some 60 year old farts make decisions about things they don't understand. And we can't let America police the entire world. Those Megaupload guys were from New Zealand and they were arrested because U.S. officials said so. This is war ladies and gentlemen.

Anonymous is simply biding its time...

They're readying their gear, prepping their tactical units, loading & checking of their weapons.
They're securing their lines, lining the shores with mines & hidden patrols in ghillie suits.
They've enhanced security inside their fortresses with automated turrets, IR security sensors, hidden traps & more. And that's just them reinforcing their bases.

They've got their first strike teams ready to lead the first assault, followed by their special operatives until the big guns arrive... and then it's on...

...but that's only if SOPA/PIPA passes.

Its already begun they've been hitting websites all today. From what I recall, the Motion Pictures site has been shut down, and a couple government ones.

You know we could take advantage of their bad press. We could ask them to support the bill then everyone would be like oh no cyber terrorists want it cancel the bill!!!!!!

And do what? Congress is a physical establishment and they are known for virtual terrorism activism. The best they can do is take down a congressman's website, which wouldn't do much.

because they like to wait until the situation calls to make them look like a crusader of good and virtue they like to think they are.
