Why? It seems to me that this would be more likely to destroy the disk than fix it.
Apprently it "fills" scrathes in the disks.
Yeah, it probably would fill the scratches. Unfortunatly, it would fill the scratches with toothpaste and brasso, as opposed to game-disk-plastic, which would cause it to not work anymore.

That sonds like it will be as likely to fix it as heating it in the microwave.
You probably just ruined your disc. A DVD has millions of little pitas on the bottom of the disc, and metal polish is used to smooth an area. Not a good combination.

Uhm... well, again, it more than likely destroyed your disc. I believe their is a guide to cleaning discs in every PS2 game manual, and it says NOT to use abrasive cleaners.
Yes, sandpaper is not a good cleaning cloth for discs.

And, just a side note, i put an old Ps 1 disc in the microwave. Awesome spectacle, but apparently it still works....
Dare I ask what happens? Does it spontaneously combust, or just melt, or what?

And that is basically what metal polish is, liquid sandpaper for metal.

Well I'm gonna end this thread now, I've decided to buy a new one. I know where I can discount PS2 games.

Erm... How do I get a mod to lock a thread?

Dude, try it. Its not damaging to your microwave at all. Take an old black disc (idk if i'll work with the new ones) lay it in there with the title facing up. And bam!!! Its really cool, not messy, or destructive to anything but the information on the disc.

Well I'm sure that most people have said this. My game of Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy isn't working. It goes to the language screen, I pick English and thats it, just "loads and loads."

So have you had this problem? Any ways to fix this problem? I've tried toothpaste and Brasso and no effect at all. Any help is appriceated.

P.S I'm playing the PS2 version of it, since my brother plays the Xbox and it's the alternative.

Im sorry i cant resist. You rubbed toothpaste and metal polish in the back of the disc?

Insane question:
I'm assuming you're actually playing it on the PS2 here; is the PS2 vertical or horizontal? And have you tried both?

Yes, that is a dumb question. But I have a 1st wave PS2 that plays DVDs vertical and CDs horizontal. Witchcraft.
WIIIITCH!! SUFFER NOT THE WITCH TO LIVE!

OT: You might want to rebuy it, i had the same thing happen with my copy of God of War 2, which looked nice and clean, but my God of War 1 disc was completely screwed and it somehow still played.

It could just be saying, "turn me off, plese, i hate myself and this game isn't good, turn off for your own good."

just kidding, i don't know what the lego games are like but if George Lucas got a hold of them there probably shit.

The tooth paste method has actually worked for me a few times.
yea it works for me quite well... on my teeth

i'd be afraid even to touch a barren toothbrush to the disc surface, LET ALONE GRITTY PASTE
and brasso? good lord, you might as well take the disc out back and give it the cat-o-nines for back-sassing you. that's just punishment, not improvement.

It's not a case of "It Doesn't Work", a lot of the time for me is because of Region Locking.

For fuck's sake, if I buy a perfectly legal game with MY own money in another country, why can't it play on MY fucking console? That's what really grinds my gears! (Cookie to whoever knows where it's from. :) )

I've had this problem myself:
STEP 1. Take out disc
STEP 2. Throw disc in trash
STEP 3. Save yourself the trouble of playing that disappointing game and pop in an old favorite

By the way nothing quite gets the plague out like a good rub down with a new brasso.

I believe you've identified the problem. Stop putting toothpaste on your games. Seriously though, that game could have been a lot better, they counted on it selling based on the succes of the first and cut a lot of corners.

idk, i used to put PS2 games in my toilet and flush it once, dry, and it would run better. (make sure the thing is relatively clean first.)

A Seth MacFarlane fan, I presume! OT: Yep, best plan is to cut your loss, and buy a "new" used copy. Saves more toothpaste that way ; )

You sure you didn't explode yer microwave? That sounds like something it would do.
OT: I have an idea; Why don't you try hydrochloric acid? That will burn any scratches right off!
(Note: Disk may or may not play content conventionally after this method, but at least the scratches will be gone. It's not false advertising; it will get rid of scratches, just not how you thought it would.)

Why would it blow up my microwave? There is no possible scientific reason why it would do anything to a microwave.
