I'll just share the same ancedotal experience I share in all of these threads: I played PS3 and 360 exclusively for years, built a gaming PC last fall, and now that's all I play. I use the same TV, chair, and controller, but all my games look noticeably better. The mouse and keyboard function infinitely better for shooters and most rpgs. I don't even play strategy or MMO games, but they're obvious about a thousand times better on a PC. Through Steam and other digital distribution platforms, I've got a massive library for a fraction of what you'd pay on a console.

The only downside to the PC? I've got six fans, so my machine hums a bit. I cancel that out with a quality headset. Otherwise, I see no reason to play my PS3 or 360 other than the rare exclusive. Then again, I'm in my late 20s and employed, so I've got the disposable income to assemble a pretty decent setup. That wasn't the case when I was younger, so I got down on consoles. What did I do when some "pc elitist" talked smack? I ignored him. I definitely didn't argue with him, though, because I would have been wrong.

Well, because most console owners are jelly that their mum wouldn't buy them a PC and had to settle with some wannabe dvd-player.
Actually pc gamers are only into pc because their parents wouldn't buy them a console. And you do realize that the PS2 heavily popularized the DVD format. So much of your post just screams elitist, and I bet your one of the people who voted for mojang instead of nintendo.

Moviebob's flock of sheep pretty much. Don't worry once he goes back to ranting about halo and how the world sucks and how getting bullied in high school should be met with genocide and how he is a true genius and could conquer the world and they'll stop acting like that.

you really have to think what are PC gamers
People that play the occasional game on PC or just own a pc to play the occasional game of farmville
or the people that spend hundreds on the exact weight of their gaming mouse and play all day everyday (elitists)

why can't we all just get along and focus all our hate on the real enemy - Social networking sites? They are fucking disgraceful, and I say this with a completely generalized opinion of what social networking stands for and who it's prime demographic are.

I believe social networking sites to be the whores of society - people longing for the hope that someone gives a shit.

It's just the next gen of the celebrity world and we would all, as gamers, be much happier if we directed our hate towards them instead of ourselves. Why shit on your own front doorstep when you can shit across the street?

EDIT: You may argue, why shit on a doorstep when you can shit in a toilet? Well, honestly? I find it refreshing.

I dno, it's irritating on both sides of the fence.

I wish there just wasn't a damn fence.

Both have hteir merits. One or the other would make hte market more efficient- but not asking you to choose.

Due to the melding of the two: COnsoles getting keyboards and mice and multimedia functions, and the PC getting controllers and the ease of getting and setting up, "gaming pc" just makes it look stupid to complain about either.

its not that we are "elitists" but because we are threatened by the larger majority market. take battlefield for example, the bf2 had 64 person multiplayer, 6 man squads, and artillery and commander, ea and dice saw how good cod was doing, and decided to scale it down into bad company and bad company 2, very little multitasking, no arty, no jets, or commander, and only 4 man squads and 4 limited kits. So i wouldn't call it dumbing down, its more like we are insecure that all our treasured game devs have abandoned us to gain more money off of hyped up milkfests.

EDIT: but it really comes down to controls for me, if all PS3 games supported mouse and keyboard, i would prolly be playing all my games on a console.(except BF3(yes i preordered it(yes im using triple brackets) which only supports 64 multi on pc).

The good old my enemy's enemy is my friend argument... While I do agree social networking sites are the worst.. However they don't hurt me the most, xbox and ps3 does that because all potentially good games gets dumbed down or are given awful controls just to accommodate the crappy controllers those consoles have. Also personally I like to mod/map myself and those options are taken away completely. So its really no wonder I or any PC gamer hate consoles since its directly taking stuff away from us.

The people who get on my nerves are the ones that seem to think PC's are inherintly BETTER than consoles. They're not. They have advantages that consoles don't and they also have disadvantages that consoles don't. They're not better, but they are different.

And obviously I'm not going to go after someone for liking a PC better than a console. I mean I struggle with constant errors, exits, frame rate chugging, and other problems just to play some TF2 because its so fun. But a lot of PC gamers underestimate the complexity they've come to deal with as normal where to a non-PC gamer it might as well be greek to them. Kind of like the Extra Credits episode about tutorials recently.

Not PC gamers in general, just the stuck up PC gamers who think they are better than console gamers, and will criticize them at any opportunity.

PC elitists are what people are referring to, and they are quite annoying. You know, the ones that need the PC version to be better than the console version to punish console players for the insolence (or something along those lines). If all versions are equal, then the game is apparently a piece of shit.
That being said, there's nothing wrong with PC gaming itself. I have a few games on Steam myself. Nor do I have a problem with PC gamers as a whole, as there are more than a few that AREN'T elitists. It's just the damn elitists.

Complexity?? PC gamers are not using linux, so you don't need a manual to install every single program.. Actually PC have become so easy and non-complex these last few years that I do not even understand why consoles are still be used... Also the recent Extra Credits episode was the best episode in a long time... So much useful infomation! and explained so everyone could come along, so I don't really get what you mean about that episode.. or your post in general.

By referencing the episode I'm talking about how things that seem self-explanitory for someone who does PC game are completely foreign to someone who doesn't.

What's RAM? How come the "can i run it" site says that I could run TF2 but its frame rate chugs all the time even at minimum settings? It tells me my graphics card is the problem for a lot of other games I wanted to play but where is that? How do I get to it? How do I upgrade it? How much will it cost me? How good of one will I need? Ok, I just followed the tutorial on how to put a sound mod in TF2, what why isn't it working? Now it's working in this game, next day its not working.

For those in the know-how about PC gaming they can reap all the benifits they want but the amount of frustration it gives me isn't worth the advantages. Plus I grew up with only controllers since the SEGA genesis and so I think its better than a mouse and keyboard.

Or the other way around, PC gamers are jealous that their parents would not buy them a console and had to jury rig their home computers, which they already had, with the parts to play PC games.

I'm a smug PC gamer because PCs are superior in every way.
I have and enjoy playing my Xbox 360. The Wii. My gamecube. My nintendo 64. My PS2.
Yeah, I enjoy playing them, but the PC trumps them all.

Random Access Memory. It's where the system sticks all the stuff it needs quick/constant access to.

How come the "can i run it" site says that I could run TF2 but its frame rate chugs all the time even at minimum settings?
Because Can I Run It isn't called Can I Run It At Some Arbitrarily Defined Quality Of 'Good'. It's essentially just a database of listed minimum specs for games and publishers have some very strange ideas as to how functional said specs are.

It tells me my graphics card is the problem for a lot of other games I wanted to play but where is that?
It's in the box. Usually the PCI-E slot on the motherboard unless you've got an old clunker that still uses AGP GPU cards.

How do I get to it?
Open the box. Take a screw driver, take the screws out that hold the left sidepanel in place and slide the panel off. Sorted.

How do I upgrade it?
Pop it out the box (may have to remove a screw holding the card in place against the case), insert new GPU card.

How much will it cost me?
How long is a piece of string? Depends on what you need and where you live.

How good of one will I need?
A HD 5770 or GTX 460 will do quite nicely for most gaming at the moment.

Ok, I just followed the tutorial on how to put a sound mod in TF2, what why isn't it working?
Contact the mod team and ask them. Most mod teams are quite welcoming of feedback and will help with major technical issues. It's also possible that the mod is unstable or the tutorial was written by someone who can't write clear instructions to save their life.

For those in the know-how about PC gaming they can reap all the benifits they want
I already do but thanks for your permission. ;) Of course, I'm not just a PC Gamer I'm also a hardware enthusiast, which is why I 'know stuff'.

By the by, you could also drop these sorts of questions in the Advice forum as there are quite a few good techheads who hang around in there. They even spec out completely new machines and get quotes on the prices of the parts for people.

Your making the classic mistake of mistaking knownledge with intelligence/complexity.
