I know that there is supposed to be a switch that you can turn off 3D. But even when its off there is probably still somethings that look 3d. So would this not strain your eyes and damage them? No offense to anyone that has bought one or is buying one.

When it's off, its 2d. COMPLETELY 2d. If it wasn't, that would be like muting a tv and having it still make noise.

Yeah. That'd be weird. There'd be a lot of lawsuits.

It looks just like a regular screen in 2D mode, it's completely 2D, absolutely no 3D at all, not even a little.

Well I read up on the 3DS that people are saying it is quote on quote " uncomfortable when the 3D is on. If you move it a little the vision becomes blurred. " so personally I would rather a DSi even though now most games are going to be made for 3DS.

If you would rather a DSi then just go buy that in stead. Just remember in 6 months time when all the best games are being released as 3DS exclusive you're just going to want to fork out for that too. Yes, this is going to happen, some companies like Ubisoft have already declared "all in" with the 3DS.
Also 3DS is 100% backwards compatible. I played mine for hours last night and it's not uncomfortable, just remember that people on the internet like to complain about any little thing, so take those reports with a grain of salt.

Keep in mind that the 3DS is significantly more powerful than the DS and will likely see the bulk of the 2D content in the next couple years even if 3D doesn't really catch on. Lots of games that didn't really need the touch screen where made for the DS over the gba due to improved graphics and storage space.

Yeah the 3D can be completely turned off. Mine works fine both in 2d and 3d and I use both heavily. I have no issues with the 3d but i see some have~ Ah well

Depends on the game really. With a lil bit of fiddling around with the slider you can get it sorted out to a fine spot for you.

Personally I haven't really had much problems with the sweet spot that people rave on about. But then again whenever I'm playing it's always sitting down so. (and Nintendo say not to have the 3D switched on during movement.)

Yeah - when 3D is set all the way down, it's completely off. Myself... I usually play with 3D all the way up. I've yet to experience a headache or anything negative as a result. However, I don't think I've gone for more than 30 minutes of playing straight, so I could still be affected by long exposure to the 3D in the future.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was reason enough for me to get a 3DS. I'm starting to get bored of Street Fighter, but when OoT comes out, I'll be glad I got one.

Yes, it will strain your eyes. Cause permanent damage? No. Not unless you over do it. But then that can be applyed to alot of things?

Reading to long in poor lighting conditions.

Being on the computer toooo long can also cause damage to the eyes.

If that were really the case, my eyes would be black, seared holes in my head by now. I used to program for 10 hours a day and then come home and game for the remaining hours til I fell asleep and my vision is perfect and crystal clear. The only possible way you could damage your eyes from any kind of monitor is if you have the refresh rate below 72hz and have the screen less than 40cm from your face. I don't think anyone with a brain sits closer than that anyway.

EDIT: I don't mean this in a rude way, I just intend to inform. :p
