Why the internet hatred for furry?

Well, as with anything, there's a vocal minority of people who leave a bad impression on the entire group.
Furries just happen to have one of the loudest (and weirdest, IMO) minorities around.

Because it's the 'in' thing to do. I don't hate on 'em. Not one of 'em, but I don't hate on 'em either.
My view too. And whats silly is it's purely counterproductive. By complaining about it on a broader scale, more people will be subjected to it, so more people will then decide its for them.

Like with any kind of Internet sub-culture/fandom I theorise that it's the vocal minority that ruin it for the rest of them. I'm not really a furry, but I am a brony and I've noticed that it only really takes a few more vociferous ones to impetuously bring up ponies out of context, spam constant gif's and never leaving people be, when they've tried the show and not liked it which has made the general reputation rather infamous, sick of people trying to shove it down their throats. It's to the point where some people are perturbed at the mere sight of a pony avatar. So I highly doubt most users are that bothered by the furry's interests, but that their encounters with members of that fandom have been with the more obnoxious ones, that have coloured their perception of the group as a whole. If they got to know someone, then found out they were a furry later on, then I doubt they would be bothered if they like talking to them anyway. That's what I think for most people, of course there are probably some people out there who hate them purely because it creeps them out.

And yes, it's safe to click. Just some text I couldn't be arsed to transcribe.
That text is only half-right. I'll get to that in a mo'.

Furries get hated because of there being not a single piece of media outlet that depicts the actual facts, instead they overexpose the sexual minority within the furry fandom, which by the way is NOT in any way, shape or form, exclusive to us. Other fandoms have sexual lunatics in them too.

If you actually took time out to do your research, you'd be shocked at how furries are no different than people who aren't furries. There are even furries that hate other furries for being furverts (read: shamelessly overexposed sluts). As a furry myself, I have and always will be condemning zoophilia/bestiality and anyone who says/thinks that said fetish is a "true fetish for any self-respecting furry", because it isn't. It's a fucking crime against Nature and I'm ashamed to know that I used to know a few furries who turned out to be closet zoophiles.

No, stop. Don't quote me and say that zoophilia = animal sex. "Zoophilia" refers to human-on-quadruped-animal sex, or animal-on-animal sex. None of the animals in question are biped or sentient. If they are actually sentient with human intelligence, they qualify as humanoids and are thus exempt from the fetish.

But this is the Internet, after all, where the stupids of the world are free to pitchfork-and-torch-mob anything Fox News tells them to. So get off your narrow-minded ignorant asses and actually LOOK into things before you judge.

See, I do know people who don't take it as a fetish but take it as a bit of fun! I always thought there was a crowbar separation between Yiffing and furry. Am I wrong?
From what I've noticed, you're wrong.

Wherever there's more than one furry, there will be yiffing. Wherever there will be yiffing, burn the place down.
Gah! Again, the vocal minority create a stereotype. I am a furry. And I get the whole yiffing, sexual fetish side of furrydom. But that's only part of being a furry. Being able to relate to an animalistic representation of yourself is a major part.

For me, being a furry means exposing my own ideas about my personality to the world. My identity as I perceive it is demonstrated through my fursona. And I can see how others choose to express themselves in the same way.

Yes, part of being a furry is the sexual fetish side. And yes, there is Sonic porn and all kinds of weird-ass stuff out there. But that doesn't mean we all are yiffing-obsessed idiots. I've got good furfriends who I have never discussed or linked or beend linked to any yiff - related material. There was certainly romantic stuff, but more tactful than anything you see on TV these days.

For one: The only difference between furry porn and non-furry porn is that the furry porn is slightly closer to bestiality. Seriously, furries: Prove me wrong.

And for another: A lot of them won't shut the hell up about it.

I remember reading something about a CSI episode where a murder takes place at a furry convention. Every furry had big creepy fur suits on such, leading to the popular idea that furry means a person who has sex in fur suits rather than someone who finds Renamon attractive.

Not sure if it realy relates to internet hate but am quite sure that it really damaged the community.
As far as I'm concerned, finding Renamon attractive is waaay more disgusting then having sex in a big, creepy furry suit.

For a while, I just thought that furries were like normal people except they have a thing for animals or whatever. That's fine, don't really care about your personal business, but if you enjoy it and it doesn't hurt anyone, good for you.

Then I have a roommate who was a furry. I got to meet all his furry friends. They were the most socially awkward people I have ever met. I actually had a more positive view of them BEFORE I met them.

I'm not sure why people think furries want to actually have sex with actual animals. If any do, they're the minority.

Anyway, I don't really care about them. I ignore them, they ignore me. Nothing is being crammed down my throat because if something furry is going on in some thread, I'm not interested in looking at it.

What I do dislike, though, is how everything that looks like a human with some animal characteristics (catgirl, Na'vi, whatever) is immediately shunned as being "omg, furry!!! Get it out of here, perv! WHY DO YOU WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH ANIMALS?!"

I happen to think catgirls are neat when they're done well (which they rarely are). I like the idea of creatures that are basically humans who are in touch with their feral roots, who have better senses of smell, hearing, and balance, and who are more graceful than the average human. They're just cool. People don't say satyrs, mermaids, and Egyptian gods are furry, and I would put them into the same category.

The internet just seems to have a tendency to dislike everything that could possibly be associated with something they already dislike.

I remember seeing part of that episode. The whole prospect of wearing a fur suit seemed kind of wierd to me until I found out what a furry fetish really is. Then I was a little more wierded out although personally I don't really care.

Because they are kind of like those into beastiaity, only without enough guts to follow through.
Are you saying that ALL furries are like that? It's very likely the minority, the extreme minority.

the same reason for the my little pony hate. A few people who decide to take it over the top and shove it down everyone else's throat ruin it for everyone associated with it..It is the same for just about any group or community....

because furries are better than us and people don't like things that are better than them. oh and for the record being a furry doesn't just mean you want to fuck animals. in fact it might not necessarily come to that at all. it just means you want to be an animal.

People hate furries because of the silent majority and the loud minority. Really the larger portion of the furry community is quite happy staying within its own sites and are into fairly normal things. They are content just sticking there and not bothering anyone.

Then you have the small sub groups of the fandom. These are the ones that most people think of as the "average furry", the ones who make it seem like all of us screw any animal that moves whenever we get the chance, the type that can't go five minutes without asking someone to yiff, the type that wears a fursuit every moment of the day. Those ones are the ones that freak out when someone says it is weird, they are the ones that cry "fursecution"(I can't stand that word.

I am in the furry community for several reasons, one is to just talk with like minded people, another is to see the artwork and stories involving anthros. Another is the porn, yes I will not deny it. I like furry porn. Not going to throw it in your face though. Most of the time people I talk to outside of the fandom are not even aware I am a furry. I won't deny it if it comes up, but the first thing I say to someone I meet isn't "Hey there, I'm a furry!" No, that would just be weird.

I personally loosely identify myself as a therian (different from a furry, look it up), though I keep it to myself and a few friends. While I know a lot of furries aren't into the weird shit and are perfectly nice people, I generally don't like them and I consider being called a furry an insult. Though I have been called "furfag" before. Very annoying, especially cosidering the fact that the most they go by is that I like a lot of animal themed movies and books x__x. OH NOEZ, SOMEONE LIKED THE LION KING! FURRYYYYYYYY!

I have a set of ears and a tail, though I usually wear them at the rare time I'm at costume parties, anime/fan conventions, Halloween, etc. Whenever I say an animal character looks "hot" it's usually beause of more human qualities (like voice and voice actor, personality, other human-like stuff...unrelated to anything sexual) and it's also mostly just joking around between friends. I think beatiality is animal cruelty, I don't like yiff, and I don't like the fact that I can't unsee my classic childhood cartoon characters drawn with oversized boobs and schlongs fucking each other. Though for that matter, I also don't like slash and the obsession over yaoi/yuri/hentai, hence why I often distance myself from the anime crowd (particularly fan art and fics).

Remember when you were a kid and watched Loony Tunes?

Remember when Bugs Bunny would dress as a lady bunny and you would laugh?

"Oh, you silly Elmer Fudd, that's Bugs in disguise!", you would shout, a gleeful smile on your face.

Now imagine all the childhood innocence removed from that scene.

...

Yeah.
OH CHRIST NO! *tremors*.

Thanks for giving me that image.

Everyone!
Replace the word 'Furry' with the word 'Gay', now you're back about 30 years ago.
Grow up, get on.

They're hated because they're different. That is all that needs to be said. I'm hated in Florida because I'm a sociopath and not a generic frat boy, but y'know.

I remember when wanting animal love was something rednecks were accused of doing to get them mad.

Now it's... Cool?

I don't get it. What happened?
