Why the rude?

I noticed this a minute or two, and i gotta ask, why the hell do people post condemning a thread they don't like. I always thought its alot less pigheaded to just not post if you don't like the thread. Personally i think that it's stupid and pointless, and just overall uncool. Why do people feel a compulsion to do this?

[EDIT] to clarify, the point of the thread is the impracticality of posting about how much people shouldn't post, and nothing more. (although some of the answers are quite good)

Rather than "kill" the thread, I prefer to tell them why it's a bad post so that they don't do it again.
Otherwise we'd have idiots running around posting things like "AHH LUV TEH INT3RN3TS!!!1", with no-one to tell them to stop.

Because, and pay attention here, we don't just want the thread to die. If you start posting a thread about say... lolcats and we berate you for it, it's not that we hate you personally and wish you'd have your pelvis crushed by a bus, we want you to stop talking about lolcats and be a useful member of the forum. How can we convey that without talking to you?

So somtimes, when the need arises, we must all put our differences aside, march up that hill, point our fingers and sing...

That would be the job of a forum moderator, leave they're job to them, but reporting a thread you find offensive or utterly moronic is a good place to start.

Well part of this forum is criticism. If somebody doesn't want their feelings hurt, they shouldn't post.
