I think the point has been missed. completely.

the whole idea was that the quickest way to kill a thread u don't like is to not post, so why do we choose to insult the person, on their thread and keep it alive. It seems utterly impractical to me, im less annoyed with it and more slightly bewildered.

Because, and pay attention here, we don't just want the thread to die. If you start posting a thread about say... lolcats and we berate you for it, it's not that we hate you personally and wish you'd have your pelvis crushed by a bus, we want you to stop talking about lolcats and be a useful member of the forum. How can we convey that without talking to you?

So somtimes, when the need arises, we must all put our differences aside, march up that hill, point our fingers and sing...

I noticed this a minute or two, and i gotta ask, why the hell do people post condemning a thread they don't like. I always thought its alot less pigheaded to just not post if you don't like the thread. Personally i think that it's stupid and pointless, and just overall uncool. Why do people feel a compulsion to do this?

[EDIT] to clarify, the point of the thread is the impracticality of posting about how much people shouldn't post, and nothing more. (although some of the answers are quite good)

You have the views of the older generation of Escapist goers. And for it I respect you, however, with all of these newer people being brought in by Yahtzee's popularity, they are also brining in the thought that pessimism is cool.

While I agree with you on the whole "Thinking like Yahtzee is thinking like a dick" concept, many of the older generation of Escapist-goers actually disagree with "jockslap" entirely. In fact the majority do.
