I just saw it, and I have to say, that was the worst remake I've ever seen. Why does Hollywood always remake movies? Do you ever see authors re-do other author's novels? Can't they just come up with their own ideas rather than re-make something that was already perfect to begin with it. I swear, we're a few years away from a Jaws remake. That's really gonna piss me off.

I refuse to watch it. Did they at least keep the ending? Please don't tell me they "Hollywooded" it up
Well, they did and they didn't. I mean, one problem is, the movie takes place in the USA, rather than Scotland. (so they're using ancient Celtic religion in the USA). Nic Cage is a cop from California, going to investigate something that happened in Washington State (I think, I can't really remember it was so bad). And I guess it turns out that the little girl was his daughter, who ends up being the one to light the fire of the Wicker Man. And then its kind of implied that they are going to lure another guy there at the end to do the same thing. (Hopefully that doesn't imply there's going to be a sequel).

Its so dumb though. I mean, Nic Cage had a GUN! There were so many ways for him to get away. In the original, I had the impression that once he landed his plane there, he was dead. There was no way for him to get away.

IT'S A GOOD MOVIE! I am baffled as to what everyone hates about it! It actually creeped me out, which most 'creepy' movies don't.

But them I'm also baffled by the hate for remakes, and the hate for Nicolas Cage.

The original was far more believable and more chilling in terms of his isolation and lack of help and support. I've never understood why people live on those Scottish islands since it just seems to be perma-cold and wet. The Cage remake just made me sad.

I didn't think it was a terrible movie in itself, but it did the original no justice.

Yeah, you should check out the wikipedia entry on St. Kilda. That island had to be the inspiration for the original movie.

Watching this I thought: Wow, what a stupid movie. Then it got to the bit with the bees, and everything was forgiven!

People should stop remaking movies in general. There is no reason people can't just watch the original movie.

And you know if they remake Jaws, they'll fill it to the top with special effects and the shark will be CGI and always be jumping out of the water and they'll fill it with shaky cam.

Can I ask why everyone blames the lead actor for the terrible writing in this movie?
Uh, I don't think anyone has suggested that in any way. They're just referring to it as the "Nick Cage one" because he's the most recognizable person involved with it.

To be fair to Cage, he really wasn't that bad, he's just not the right fit for this kind of movie. He's too much of an over-the-top actor for a "thriller" film. Of course, it's his over-the-top acting that gave the remake it's only entertainment value: its comedy.

If any actor really needs condemning in this film it's the woman who played his characters love interest. By god was she bad.

having suffered through this horrible movie in the theater (we snuck into something else afterward, we felt they owed us) I find the comedy trailer just brilliant, I forgot how many unintentionally funny things in this movie!
