Disagree, although HD would allow the Wii to feature Graphically stronger games it would not be enough to knock Sony or Microsoft out of this generation of console. For starters theirs exclusivity of games to consider; I mean come ob how many people are not going to my a PS3 when games with big fan bases such as Kingdom Hearts 3 are released it happend before with Metal Gear Solid 4 and it could happen again.

Either way speculation theories are never a good thing to invest faith into as there are many other external factors that may upset that theory, such as a next generation of consoles or the success of other progects suc as 'Natal' and the 'I-pet' etc.

Futhermore who here ever predicted six years ago that Nintendo would create a console that would outsell Sony's and Microsoft's consoles? No one would of believed them.

I will say this; A wii HD would need to do more than simply change the output.

According to a group of people who've seen the Dev Kit, the resolution limits for the Wii are defined in software. - In other words, a system patch could in and of itself enable HD...

The problem is, the Wii just doesn't have the performance to do anything useful with HD resolutions, which probably explains why it doesn't have options to output in HD...

I still don't think anything good would come of trying to do this though.

I found this of some interest though: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2007/06/opinion_the_wii/

That creates a rather different definition of 'casual' gaming than most seem to use. XD.

The kind of people who own Wiis probably don't even know what HD is. Besides, I don't think any Wii developers would bother to make an HD game if one with PS1 quality graphics sells just as well if not better. People want motion gimmicks on Wii, not graphics.

Hum, sounds like he was just spewing massive amounts of mostly baseless conjecture. HD isn't that big of a deal. Not really anyway. The Wii didn't have HD when it came out, while its competitors did, and it still beat the pants off of them. It's not the tech, it's the marketing and brand name that draw people.

Why can't people just accept that the Wii is a kids toy? Why must every one try to make it comparable to the PS3 ans XBOX 360? It would the equivalent of shoe horning modern day avionics into helicopter frames from the 60s in the hopes of making them comparable to other newer models. Oh wait...

Everyone wants an HD Wii, but something capable of just putting out a better resolution is all Nintendo needs to do to claim that title and get everyone's hope up. Is a few more pixels worth all the gripe an a whole new system? Certainly not, and maybe that's what has Nintendo wondering why people are griping so much about it.

The simple fact is that the Wii is a graphical retard for more than just pixel count, the runt of this generation's litter, and half the games for it don't even compared to what was expected of the Gamecube last generation. Gamers want better graphics in general, but Wii developers that are willing to even meet the console's ability seem few and far between. Pair that with most of the games being waggle-fests, and a graphically enhanced Wii only puts a new coat of paint on what is already largely a turd. :/

Thus, it's completely unnecessary because in the end I can't see it making any difference to what anyone thinks of the Wii brand that they don't already think. Be it about the games, controller, or anything else, just improving how things look isn't going to change what people think of the system.
