Are "stupid" and "fun" mutually exclusive? Especially in the gaming world. People are watching because on some level they are entertained, it seems. It doesn't really matter if it's high brow or not.
Which is depressing on it's own. Given most 'Lets Players' and Streamers are at the Ben Stiller/Pauly Shore level of stupidity.

Eh. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than the games themselves. But I don't watch a lot of LPers, either.

I guess my point is more that I don't like Pewdiepie, but it's be weird if YouTube decided "you don't want to watch this shit on our site!" though that analogy may be flawed because I'm not sure how many people really want Twitch on the Wii U.

Ignorance in bliss, but in this case Nintendo are out of their fucking minds yet again.

Nothing new here.

Out of their minds? No. A bit crass, maybe even ignorant? Yeah, depending on who you ask. As others have stated on here, people watch the stream for the user. Not for the game itself. I have zero confidence that the Wii U mic and headset is even remotely good. Not to mention that it's even more stuff clogging up console processing power for something useless that can be done a lot better by other third party devices.

I find it funny that we give Sony and Microsoft so much shit for stuffing their consoles with Television, Hulu, Youtube and other things that aren't games, and yet when Nintendo says they aren't going to add those very things suddenly they are "out of their minds".

Besides, the amount of legitimately good streamers will be far outnumbered by broken voiced tweens who can't narrate or play for shit. Making the program a waste of money anyway.

If I want to watch a stream I'm gonna be on a computer anyway. Not on a game console where I'll be playing...you know, games.

At first i wanted to tell nintendo that it does not get to tell me what is fun. Then i remmebered How nintendo treats Youtube (block any content regarding nintendo games to the point of illegal bullying and persecution) and relaized its probably more because they seem to want to be forgotten and are doing everything they can to ruin thier reputation.

You could see how Nintendo content just disappeared off YouTube after the content ID apocalypse, some of the content creators have even admitted they will not make any more Nintendo content and Boogie2988 said he was wary of even talking about them because of what they do but he didn't elucidate any further. Maybe they hit channels that are critical of them harder with the content ID or copywrite strikes or something, I hope not and do not what he was referring to but it was a funny thing of him to say.

Its a shame the issue is to complicated to study but I wonder how much this YouTube blackout affected Nintendo, it caused ill will with the content creators to begin with and those guys can be an effective PR department for publishers. Having someone like pewdiepie squealing over your game does have an affect on sales, there where charts showing that indie games increase in sales after one of the biggest personalities showcases them. Even to the extent you could place the graph on a calender and see the spike shortly after the video was posted and games that get released almost unnoticed get hurled to the top of charts and discussion about them pops up everywhere.

The level of effect is almost impossible to calculate but these policies of Nintendos will be hurting them to some degree or other and the ill feelings it causes with consumers make it worse, which with the torpid Wii U hardware and software sales they could do without.
Nintendo content was dissapearing from yuotube for at least 5 years before the ID apocalypse. its just that noone gives a fuck as long as its the unmonetized channels that get abused right? as soon as the pockets were hit a big stink was raised. Nintendo however resorted to bullying and illegal reclaiming of content to keep the content out even when you prove it was no coyprighted (altrough in normal legal system the burden of proof would fall on claimant, however here you are guilty untill priven innocent, because copyright law is fun). and then after 24 hours they made IDENTICAL claim on you again and the cycle repeats. And nintendo is not alone, Jim Sterling often mentions on his youtube channel that this or that is disputing claim even nowadays. In fact he said he signed into the corporate channels list solely to avoid the ID claims.

If Nintendo attacking youtube would hurt them, it would have happened 5 years ago. Yet the fans seem to be ovliciuos of everything Nintendo does.

I think Nintendo is slowly, but surely, taking online more seriously. They unified the balance for 3DS/Wii U. They allowed voice chat in Mario Kart 8. They seem to be catering to the competitive Smash community.
you mean nintendo is being dragged kicking and screaming into taking internet seriusoly? just like it happened with dropping cartridges?
