... Are we seriously arguing about this?

If they let the option in, it's cool. If they don't, it's cool.

I really don't see how this will affect ANYTHING, I mean, we still have to get to the Borealis, kill 100+ combines in hilarious ways AND save the planet, again, and we're worried about whether or not Gordon uses the Iron Sights or the HEV Suit Enhanced Targeting Capabilities?

Are you serious?

It was not hard at all to aim in either of the first two games..you just sprayed in the general direction and got a kill..real skillful gaming eh?

The graphics on hl2? perfect!
Story? fantastic!
Sound? amazing!
Level design? Incredible!

blah blah blah it ticks all the boxes and when we get to the action parts..we just point and click? it seems the only part of the game that was lacking imo. As much as i loved it, some sharper shooting would be excellent. Since when did a sharp, precise shooting mechanic become a cliche ffs?
So, pointing and clicking isn't "skillful" but pointing, right clicking, then left clicking is? Gotcha.
No but obviously it wouldn't be a - just ad aim - mechanic, the enemy AI would be upgraded, the combat system might be a little more tactical, maybe the enemies in HL would start to learn to take cover just as GF had started to aim his gun.

It wouldnt be HL2 + AIMING would it, it's going to be a whole new engine in a game made 10+ years later, with the same Valve standard in level design, graphics and sound with AI that can now make use of it's environment, calling for a system where you might need to ..i don't know accurately shoot a leg off\f an enemy from behind a pillar and the like.

I personally would love to put sight controls on only the melee weapons. And before you shoot an enemy you must first answer a riddle. And to not die you have to win the Nobel Prize for inventing cartwheels.

OT: Putting a sight-in mechanic couldn't hurt the game. But remember, Gordon Freeman is a physicist first! I'm sure it's easier for him to calculate angles and trajectory than it is to look along the barrel of a rifle.

There's a really easy way to solve this, to the satisfaction of both parties.

Valve: just let us fire while zoomed in. No ironsights, and not just hipfire. Problem solved.

Op: Hey guys, let's add a simple aiming mechanic.

You: NO I FUCKING HATE CALL OF DUTY RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!

You can't seriously believe that adding this one thing would change the entire game, can you?
Sure, half-life doesn't need it, but it also doesn't not need it.
What does COD have to do with anything?

It would change it because Half-Life ISN'T THAT KIND OF GAME. It's an old school-ish run and gun-- not a SOREALISTIC modern FPS. YOU DON'T NEED IRON SIGHTS. You can precession aim fine in Half Life, and most games like it. Honestly... I've never, EVER, encounter someone who said they had trouble aiming in Half Life. From this I can either conclude the OP has never played many old school FPSs and isn't used to that kind of system, or you just suck and can't aim with crosshairs. I mean... seriously? Trouble aiming in Half Life? That's just ridiculous. Fucking seriously?

At the end of the day, it's a pointless mechanic that would add absolutely nothing to the game. The guns that require precession already let you look down a scope to aim shots. Why you'd need it for anything else when crosshairs work fine is just absolutely beyond me.

Make it look like it's waving at his long lost daughter, but for the love of good let the sight come up. Doesn't have to be militarily precise, but really, if you're gonna see a guy before he sees you, what advantage do you have if you can't get close enough to shoot him?

...I'm not a psychopath...

Here's an idea! If you want Ironsights in HL, just get a mod! Easy, easy. Works great. There's quite a few wonderful ones out there. Quitcha bitchin'.

SMOD Tactical was my personal favorite.

I've never played half-life, so I wouldn't know whether or not I can aim well in it.

I realize that Half-Life isn't that kind of game, but adding iron sights won't turn it into that kind of game.

Some people would work better with the help of iron sights. It would make it more workable with more people. It's just like fucking fast travel in a Bethesda game. Some people like it, some don't, and you have the option of using it or not using it.

I'd be satisfied with an actual trailer before trying to decide what the gameplay features are.

Master Chief never worked it out, either, but he kinda did ok. Before being marooned out in space. On a ship ripped in half. That apparently then gets blown up.

I'm sure that nothing like that's gonna happen to The Freeman, though - and if it does, I'm sure his miss-use of iron sights will have had no bearing on the matter.

You CAN sharpshoot!
All FPS' can be boiled down to 'point and click' as you so put it. The Crossbow could be zoomed in.
That's like saying that a third person shooter needs more management mechanics, because it has the same perspective as WoW. They're completely different games, they don't need the same fucking mechanics.
Half Life wasn't made for sharp shooting. You want that? Then play a different game!

Iron sights really don't suit a game like Half life. Like others have said, HF is more akin to oldschool shooters where you strafe around the enemy while unloading everything you have into it. Iron sights would simply be an impediment. If there was a choice whether to have this feature or not, then it would be okay.

I do prefer FPS with sights. I don't notice when they're not there, though. I think it's less a question of sights than accuracy; Valve games tend to have guns that work fine without sights, whereas in something like Borderlands it's pretty much impossible to shoot without aiming. HL doesn't really need it.

So, HL [or any other old-school shooter for that matter] is just point and click? Well, yeah, huge difference if I had to press another button before I can point and click on the enemy I want to kill.

If iron sights add something to the game, like in Killing Floor e.g., I'm all for it. But HL is neither worse nor better with or without them. There's no need for change. Increase the difficulty if you think enemies die too easily.

why the hell not....just as long its optional but not necesary to play the game/get past particular sections I see no reason why ADS shouldnt be in the game
