Starcraft or C&C? I've played Halo Wars, LotR:BFME, and many other RTSs but none compare to my experiences with Starcraft and the C&C series. Will a a future RTS knock these giants off their pedestal?

I personally think that both C&C and Starcraft are highly over rated. I prefer Age of Empires, Civilization, Rise of Nations to them. Howver, my favourite RTS is most likely Supreme Commander, which I like far more then the rest.

Giants?
I never really enjoyed Starcraft. I always though Total Annihilation was a better RTS.
C&C was good, but I think Red Alert 2 is where the 'fun' factor capped.

I would say the best RTS series would be Homeworld 1 & 2.
Simple yet challenging, 3D Space movement, very very well balanced...Nothing has come close since.
I would say I like the Total War Series better then anything, but I don't consider that an RTS.

Starcraft, Warcraft, and Age of Empires are the RTS games/series I've enjoyed the most.
C&C was alright, but after a while, it just wasn't as fun as the other 3.

i used to love the first red alert game <3 other than that i've never really played that many RTS', so i don't have that much to compare it to, but from what i've seen and can remember, C&C will always be the best, although i did rather enjoy age of empires as well
EDIT: actually after reading the wikipedia page on RTS', does advance wars count? if so i preferred that to any others

Hahaha...

If Warcraft IIII would come out, it would sound the victory bells before the demos would even be released.

That, my friends, is a fact.

I believe that if you want to play a high quality RTS, you have to move away from the consoles. The console RTS is always muddled with a unfortunately bad control scheme, usually taking away from the "S" part of RTS.

On another note, I have long been a fan of the Warcraft RTS series, you should try them out.
Halo Wars was the only non-PC RTS I've ever played. There's a pretty good deal at my local Best Buy for the Warcraft III Battle Chest with all 3 installments.

I haven't played many RTSs to be honest.. I've played halo wars (which was horrible) and AOE2, which I still love to this day.

Really? I was under the impression that BFME only came out on consoles as well.
Aaaaaaaaaaanywho, I'm not too ignorant, and can admit when I'm wrong, so sorry about that. But my opinion remains. Just like FPS seem to work better with the consoles, I believe that RTS can only truly be great when they are on the computer.
BFME2 did come out on 360. It was pure garbage. They removed War of the Ring mode and Create-a-Hero. I never felt so sick in my life. So glad I only played it at a friend's house. I'll stick to my PC BFME2 with the expansion.

I really liked C&C (the first one), and Starcraft was also rather good. However I preferred Homeworld over both of them. I don't believe that I've played any other (recent) RTS that comes close to these.

EDIT: Oh, and Age of Empires, I loved that too.

How about Emperor: Battle for Dune?(Dune started the RTS genre after all) Or WH 40K :Dawn of War? There are a bunch of good ones, I do love me some starcraft though.

Here's hoping for AOE 4!

Love those games... Nothing to do with the fact that I'm good at them *cough*

I think C&C is terrible.

The new SC2 beta was extremely unimpressive. SC1 is and always will be the pinnacle of RTS for me.

Your Mileage May Vary pal. I played those games until i met the beautiful seductress known as Total War. I have never left her since.

Total Annihilation and it's spiritual successor, Supreme Commander (only SupCom1, SupCom2 was ruined by dumbing-down). TA is better than Starcraft, and SupCom is better than C&C, but they'll never be as popular because they are too complex and slow-paced.

Tis truth he speaks.

Also, the Mastermind is a kickass unit if you use it right.
