Absolutely definitely 100% sure of it. In the 80s people were saying the same thing - "no-one will be listening to this in 10 years". They said it in the 90s too. They said it in the 2000s and now they're saying it in the 2010s... and rap has only gotten bigger every decade. It may not always be the #1 most popular style of music that it is right now, but it'll never go away completely.

Rap defines a vocal style. If someone is rapping, it's rap. If someone isn't rapping it's not rap. It doesn't get any more complicated than that. I hear plenty of rap all the time so maybe you're just listening to some really shitty radio stations.

There's more rap in more places making more money now than ever before. if something emerge as rap did in the 90s, then submerge into the underground again, how is that a genre thats expanding? its the opposite of expanding, its dying. As i mentioned earlier, the 80s and disco had a similar experience. I'm not saying i dont enjoy real rap, there is some really good stuff out there still, but its getting less and less, soon people wont even bother making that kind of music because the fanbase will be so small and obscure, there wont be any real profit in making it.

anyone can rap, the ability to be able to talk rythmically is not genetic, its a skill people learn. besides there already is a lot of rappers from all ethnic backgrounds, just look at the UK grime scene.

The problem isn't with rap in particular, but the entire music industry. We live in a post internet world where the big suits in bigger corporations are not executors of what is popular on the radio. Now days most people find exposure via the internet, and the music industry in general has become so fragmented that it's not really about what the "world" likes so much as whether or not you can find sufficient niche.

The "high water mark" for rap has already come and gone- that point where the industry legitimately had a large number of artists that really innovated within the genre. Now they've reached that point that rock did 50-some odd years ago where it too had to reach outside the genre. Don't misunderstand though- in the US rap is the single most popular genre of music. It's just reached and passed it's peak. All that really means is that for anyone to get noticed they need to be particularly talented.

Im saying this not to be racist, but to point out the problem I have with rap itself. Why is it there can be 1,000 black rappers talking about the same things (ie Flashing cash and getting that ass) and no one cares, but then a white guy other the Eminem trys to rap about anything he is immediately associated with trying to be an other Eminem? Rap has so much potential but few know how to really dig deeper then what we have heard hundreds of times, and it wouldn't even be that hard.
I am a white guy who has grown up with rap + rock and love rap with a passion. But I dont want to show the world what Ive got if they wont look past my color and assume Im trying to be something Im not. So in ur honest opinion whether you like rap or hate it do you think the world is ready to have white rappers other then Eminem or we doomed to have only one?

i've kind of hated rap since like 2005. pre 2005 i listened to it a lot. basically you get your occasional paul wall who will have a nice hit or two, but i feel like the majority of the rap consumer base WANTS black rappers because htey're seen as more authentically ghetto, in the same way that the country music fanbase WANTS white singers because they feel more country. i guess. i don't know really, i'm not a sociologist

You said it yourself. Everyone is rapping about flashing cash and getting that ass. Including Eminem. The only rappers I have ever taken seriously are people like Mos Def. Who actually rap about issues that matter to them.

So I wouldn't care whether the rapper was white black or whatever. If they are rapping about the same shit as everyone else then I won't care.

Is the world ready to have white rappers other than eminem? Sure, if they are talented enough, or if they are manufactured enough. Either one will work. I don't think people judge music by the race of the person that is singing it. Then again when was the last time we've seen the record labels try and market a teenage black girl to us?
