Book of Vile Darkness is a good book for a campain but its not a real book even in the DnD world (atleast as far as i know) i am not sure how they will make a movie out of it and they have all sucked so far i just wish some one with a bigh name would get behind it then they might get some good funding and be able to do somthing good with it and so far they have not been able to produce anything good to attact anyone big enough to do that

Ah yes, D&D the movie, giving D&D players something else to have to defend about their hobby. Even the hardest of the hard core gamers among my group immediately disowned the movie, and I don't know if I've met anyone that actually liked it.

Rather than do something intelligent (but yes, more expensive) like using one of their actual properties, they take someone's dumb home campaign and cast it with lousy talent. I suppose they might lucky and the guy or gal that wins has some sort of screen presence, but likely not.

Hopefully someone with a really odd concept wins.

Yes; I do believe there is an artifact named the Book of Vile Darkness, hence the name of the supplement that came along later.

In any case: I obviously don't LIKE the D&D films, but I have a fondness for the first one, but the second is atrocious (the only good part was Nim the Thief).

To be honest, this sounds like an underhanded scheme to get IDEAS for the new movie...

"Oh gee, send us your information for a character that is probably loads better than any of the crap we've been kicking around while trying to write the script for this movie that in all honesty is probably being made for direct release on SyFy channel. We'll give YOU a walk on role (presumably unpaid) in a film NO ONE you know will ever see in exchange for TONS of potential "characters" we will shamelessly rip off to use, instead of our current plans to simply resurrect Snails as our main hero."

1. I wouldn't be stupid enough to give them FREE kickass concepts to exploit in their film with no real benefit to myself.

2. If you know who Snails is, I pity you.

Oh my sweet jesus, another D&d movie? And it sounds like they're gonna base it on FOURTH EDITION?P! *Nerd rage*.
Right.

Like either of the previous movies were in any way based on any set of rules. FFS.

Incidentally, nerd rage is really intimidating. I mean it.

You probably won't care, but for what it's worth, here's a justification of the part you quoted. I watched the D&D movies when I was much younger, and despite not having started D&D yet then, I remember them being distinctly terrible. Hence the "oh god not another one" part. And when I say based on, I mean taking some pointers from, such as wizards having to memorize spells (and having a bigger spell selection than two 'at-will' powers, one encounter and one daily power). I feel such small differences could make for very different viewing experiences.

If you expect the specific edition of the rules to add anything to the film, you're going to be disappointed. The movie makers generally ignore the game.

They have so far. The Dungeons and Dragons movies have been generic and unremarkable fantasy movies with the name slapped on them.

Hmm. Having said that, I guess you're right. It is just like the game.

I've (thankfully) not seen the first D&D movie in a long time, but I'm pretty sure they didn't treat Wizard spell lists - or any of the classes - at all like you would in a tabletop game. Expecting them to start now is silly.

Screw that. Ever since they took TinyD&D offline on facebook, I'm never touching anything made by those greedy WoC bastards again.
