Hey people...i just downloaded and am about to begin using windows 7!

On the website you can get a release candidate..a fully functioning version that they intend to test once more using us, the consumers, then release after minor fixes.

Just wanted to ask, if anyone else has this...is there an easy way to revert to vista? I can't find this information on the website.

Thanks

Some people know how to do something called "dual-booting" which allows you to choose which OS you want to use.

I don't, but it might work. Other than that, I have no idea.

If you don't want to dual-boot like scott suggested, you could just nuke the Win 7 directory and install Vista without formatting the drive. They both use NTFS. Although all your files would still be there, you would have to reinstall your programs for them to work properly.

Yep, you need to Dual Boot. Basically you have more than one OS installed in your computer, I'm sure you can find guides on how to do it on the net.

No offence but IMO if you need to ask such a question, then this RC is not for you. Also, the site highly recommends that you don't use this on your main PC. While that is a bit too much on the careful side, you most definitely shouldn't put it on your main OS drive.

Winows?

Windows 7 RC is pretty stable, but I would recommend partitioning the drive and installing on the seperate sector.

The only reason I haven't done this is because it's on my test machine anyway.

Don't worry, I know mostly what i am doing. I looked further into the RC, and managed to find out that all i need to do is create a vista recovery disc for my laptop. Which i am doing right now. I will also do a full backup uing windows live onecare. So when i am done with 7, i can insert my recovery and then my backup, restoring my laptop to exactly how it is now.

Perfect =D

Wait a second. As an easier option...because i know little of partitioning a drive...could I just install 7 on my D drive? My laptop has a C and a D. D is primarily for recovery, but i can store data on it. Could i run windows 7 from this?

How good is Windows 7 at the moment anyway? I was thinking about changing OS after I get my computer upgrade soon.

Is it just vista in disguise? OR it it actually GOOD?

So far the only think I saw and like is the interface, dont know about the rest.

wow. Just had a look at a guide here: http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dual-boot-windows-7-with-xp-or-vista

Dual booting vista and 7 looks easy. And a full guide on how to partition. I have one remaining question. As silly as it sounds...when i want to uninstall 7 and stop trying it out...how will i do this and then remove the partition, giving vista my full hard drive space again?

Ok, all set i think. I have created a recovery disc for my laptop's vista

I have created a full backup using windows live onecare

I will set up a partition of 20GB for windows 7 and any files i want to store there (progs etc)

Then i will install 7, after burning it to a disc.

That all done, my helpful friends?

I will probably get it when it is done with testing, and because I got this laptop for school from my awesome parents, I will also get the windows 7 upgrade from them. :D
and I hate vista.

The RC is limited only. It expres July next year. So i will have to go back at somepoint. You cannot upgrade from the RC to the full version in one leap, so even if i wanna keep 7 that bad i will have to revert to Vista then upgrade.

Plus I like vista...no doubt 7 will be better but the way u said it suggests Vista is crappy. I like it

If you have a big enough flash drive you could always run it from that and leave your vista intact.

Ok, did not know that. If i had the hard drive i was going to get sometime soon, but now cannot till like 3 months time...i would put it on that. I think i have a friend with a 16GB flash drive...that would be just perfect.

I'm using the RC and I went straight from Windows 7 Beta to RC. It just meant this computer was out of action for about a day.

I read that when 7 is released commercially, RC users will not be able to upgrade directly from the RC to the commercial version. I don't get why, but thats what it said.

Plus, i Don't need to worry now...i am creating partition, so i can dual-boot vista and 7.

Since you are using 7 already there is a chance you are good with computers too. LOL. Do you know how, when i want to, i will be abnle to remove 7 from the partition and then remove the partition?

No idea mate. Sorry.

Maybe try the method for partitioning but backwards?
