"scrub" "hard" and "tryhard"

I mean hard saying "I'm so hard" (Not boners, just when an idiot thinks saying he's hard means he's a badass.)

What's with tryhard? I can sort of understand it if someone spends ages trying to be amazing at peggle, but in TF2, if I make a good rocket jump that's hard to do first try, people say try hard because I've practised doing that jump before.
It's a competitive fps, where I've played it for so long that if I wasn't trying to get better then I would have left it ages ago. It's the best way of keeping me interested, why is it bad that I'm trying to be good at a game?

Hm...I really guess specific words don't annoy me, at least I can't think of any off the top of my head.

it's more or less how the person is using it, with what context that usually gets me angry.

If I had to put a word/phrase down though, I would say anything to do with art hipsters saying "you just don't get it man" or "your just a sheep"

I'm pretty sure I want to wash their mouths out with hydrogen peroxide when I hear/see those, especially relating to art.

Epic. The word has lost all meaning.
Boycott. Often used by people who don't know what it means, too often used by people who play the games they want to boycott.
Lol. Said in voice chat, with no hint of emotion.
Noob. Claiming that someone is new to something isn't much of an insult.
I also strongly dislike little boys with shrill voices who insist that they're 18 and they work for Microsoft. Also, people who claim to be 'so high right now,' when they sound like they've never even touched anything remotely narcotic.

This applies often to BioWare games. It bothers me on another level too. I really don't care much about the romances. I view them as a way to get a little different bit of the story every time I play the game. But some people...yikes. They are bananas. And it makes me feel awkward to be associated with the creepy fans, but I enjoy the games for the gameplay and story. So there it is...

well I use the phrase "I romanced" because I'm not sure how else to say it (I persued kaidens path?)

but yeah....it annoys me that I can;t say "I like Tali" without feeling dirty

While this is not specifically a gamer word, I'd like to throw out my complete and utter disgust for the word "waifu"

See, I'm a MegaTen fan. That's about it. It's really the only JRPG series I follow. On top of that, I'm not a big anime watcher either. However, one of the negative side effects of being a MegaTen fan is that both those from outside and those within are quick to assume you're a fan of all things kawaii desu and just lump you in with every other JRPG and anime series on earth.

Waifu for those that don't know, is a term that certain fans of this stuff use when they have basically claimed a girl that they utterly wuv and proclaimed a fake marriage with them. Some use it in jest, some are serious about it to the point where it becomes creepy, but no matter how it comes up, it's annoying.

...Yeah...I really hate that word.

I admit some of the other examples mentioned here bug me, but since I really don't do a lot of gaming in general, and literally none that involves interaction with other people, most of this stuff doesn't really come up for me.

I'd also like to point out that I'm not really fond of the word "gamer" in general. I do other things, in fact I do lots of other things. More frequently and with more enthusiasm than I do playing video games.

Why should I be labeled a gamer because I spend a few hours a week on one of many hobbies? If anything I should be a watcher. I spend a lot more time going through dvds and netflix than I do video games.

That's really an awkward way of putting it. I never talk about girls I'm interested with my friends and say, "I'm gonna romance Jenny". It makes you sound like a rapist with a white knight complex.

I don't know, I think you're looking too much into it. Some people (ie. those I consider normal) separate games and reality, if I was talking about playing Mass Effect 2, I would say "I romanced Tali" (the context of the sentence shows that I am saying "I romanced Tali in Mass Effect 2" or if we put this via Japanese discussion "I went the Tali route in Mass Effect 2") but I'd never say that about a real girl. There are far more creepier ways to say it: "I'm in a relationship with Tali" as if Tali were a real person.

You aren't a creepy Bioware fan until you start talking about Quarian piss, seriously.

Noob as a tag to any other word or phrase to make what you're doing seem like its unskillful. I was quite hurt when I was playing SC2 and I won, after a long battle in which I used a strategy I had been perfecting for weeks, and the guy says "stalker spam noob". I didn't even use that many!

Makes me cringe though when people still say (like on GTs Bonus round?) that the PS3 "lost" this generation of consoles. How...? What are you even talking about when you say lost? Not made more cash than nintendo or microsoft? I'm pretty sure the Nintendo coiffeurs are quite dry now, and Microsoft hasn't really been shining. Why still the PShate?

People who stick up for Nintendo by listing all their titles that are supposed to be on the way. I read the list they give and half are games I swear I've already played (mario, metroid, zelda) and the other half are just japanese words and numbers and colons stuck together, and are on the DS.

On that same vein people who stick up for bronies. Its a really girly kids cartoon, people. I think it would be better for mankind if we stayed away.

The other word I really hate seeing around is "art" and if games are that. That discussion gets very ugly very fast, and no one wins after having it.

Yeah, I got sick of being beat over the head with "games are art, you can't criticize them" real damn quick. My response: "Ok, let Bioware be starving artists."

Yeah, that last bit I never understood. If they are art, shouldn't I be allowed to criticize them? You know, like critics of other mediums do? It amazes me with people sometimes.

The funniest thing about this is that people were fine with video games being art until Mass Effect 3. Gamers will instantly change their minds about anything to get what they want.

Apparently I'm not allowed to like a game somebody hates without being branded as a mindless drone with my head so far up (insert generic game publisher here)'s arse that I can share breath mints with them (example would be C&C Red Alert 3 which is really unpopular among the "true" C&C fans but I find it really rather good).

Also plotholes.

I'm sorry. It may be that my willing suspension of disbelief goes a bit further than the rest of you but I simply can't shake the image that whoever whines that a game/story has plotholes in their story just needs to be spoonfed every last bit of information instead of working it out for themselves (I'm sorry to bring it up again for the 32nd quadrillionth time but ME3 is a good example where I find the story INCLUDING THE ENDING to be rather good).
