MMOs: i think about them as the soulless whoring of my favorite form of media.
they also seem to steal friends. i see people start playing MMOs, they dont want to do anything else, they treat it like work, but they still claim its fun. its an addiction, seeing someone addicted to something makes me sad. its also kinda like a creepy insane cult, and they always try to suck you in too, if an MMO player ever offers me a nice cold glass of kool-aid im running.

Apologies for making it sound like you played for a whole year. To be fair, someone who would go to the trouble of writing that many academic papers, the song etc with any kind of extensive knowledge or authority seems like they'd need to play it for longer than a week.

People can level fast, that's true, but no one will ever see the whole game and experience everything in four days.

I made an assumption based on how much trouble you went to. I guess if someone said they wrote several papers on any subject, academic or not I'd imagine they'd have been studying the subject longer than 4 days for it to be actually a balanced summary.

You don't like wow. That's totally cool. Just remember to respect other people's choices. Recognising and accepting diversity is a powerful academic tool.
I don't hate the playa, I hate the game. Only time I take exception to that rule is when the playa decides to insult everything else in existence in defense of the game. Especially when it is insanely untrue things like "WoW has the best graphics EVER".

I only played the game for 4 days. But like I said, I did research into everything else that I hadn't done. I heared opinions from people across the board. I went on Google and found pictures to explain my points. That sort of thing. But you don't need to see every aspect of the game to know how it works. I wrote a guide for two new classes in FFXI within a week of the expansion's release, before I installed it myself or partied with any players of those classes. And the only things I've ever edited on the guides were updates to them over time.

MMORPG's are predictable. Especially when all 4 days you play one, you're stuck doing quests that force you to "kill X monsters" or "collect X items". The lack of variation in quests is what killed me.
The thing about WoW is the expansions change the game a lot. Levelling from 1-60 is boring as tits. Outland really wasn't all that bad, and 70-80 is some of the best questing I've ever seen in an MMORPG. Wrath of the Lich King still uses a lot of that Kill X enemy and gather Y items, but they keep each quest short and sweet. There's a lot more variety in just the grind quests. On top of this WoW added totally new quest mechanics that I haven't seen in any other MMORPG.

WoW always had a decent variation in quests. There was a good mix of grind, delivery and quests that don't fill any particular category, but Wrath just raises the bar 10 fold.

The Wrath gate quest is probably one of the best quests I have ever experienced. It's not a particularly long quest at all. A large gate that guards Arthas' realm (the Lich King) becomes the focal point of the entire horde/alliance offensive. You reach the gate, do a few little quests here and there and then you're treated to a fantastic cinematic.

Wrath Gate Cinematic [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QWR15OLcoI&fmt=18]

After the Wrath gate quest the entire area is torn asunder, and the remaining forces are retreating. This is actually a client side "illusion". People who haven't done the Wrath gate quest still see it as it was before, but those who completed it are left with fires, corpses, and the red dragonflight.

After the Wrath Gate quest you're treated to a quest where you must go to Orgrimmar and speak with Thrall who will tell you of what happened in Undercity while the Wrath Gate forces were ambushed by the forsaken. Varimathras has taken Undercity and you head off to Undercity with Sylvannas and Thrall to retake the city. This part of the quest can be done in a group. In fact before the quest starts you wait and other players will then do the quest alongside you. You retake Undercity and kill Varimathras.

Why do people hate WoW you ask?

Well IMHO, because it sucks. You will probably say "well look at all the subscriptions" and I say 80% of the player base is 13 and under and that sort of crap appeals to children and some adults. WoW is just crap.
That's a little harsh, alot of WoW players are 20+

"Escapists" like to think that they are the most intelligent people on the internet, and stick by the principle that bad spelling or grammar=complete retard. Therefore, any mention of WoW gets dirty looks from the elitists who can't play games with the unwashed masses
Agree on that
