World of Warcraft bashers

Its a time sink.. its repetitive.. its addictive.. and I feel that a lot of negative stigma attached to gamers being a pack of isolated losers is because of games like this that literally force you to play for hours on end if you actually want to get anything out of it.

I played it.. I quit.. BC came out.. and I went back, me and a bunch of my mates all rolled on the same server.. it was fun leveling.. but then one of my mates had to go join the best guild on the server so he could turn the game into a chore. That stuff ruined the game for me. My return to the festering demon after BC lasted a month.. Never again. Most of my mates quit within the year too. Then WotLK; WotLK has stolen 2 of my friends.. the rest of us just shake our heads at them now.

The worst part is when they talk about it like we are interested

Well i personally can't stand the mmo's where you have to do endless ''hunt for npc to gain xp, so you can be just as ordinary as the guy next to you'' And sadly WoW falls neatly in under that category. And i can't stand the blocky graphics.

I take that from experience.. since i've been playing a few mmo's myself..
I got stuck on eve though, but it does not limit my real life...

People who GET sucked in can only blame themselves. Not the goverment or that green blob on the dark side of the moon...

I play wow, and i think it is awesome.

And that's all that matters. What does it matter what other people think about your habit?

i played it for the 14 day trial... one of the most fun RPGs... or games for that matter, which i have ever played. didn't renew my subscription, but the day that WoW 2 comes out, i will get on the Band Wagon. and Bright_Raven will rise again!

Did you try Wrath yet? The quests in Wrath of the Lich King are really fantastic. The Raiding atm is a bit borked. The lag gets pretty bad during raids, hopefully the patch fixes that. PVP is also a big mess. So really Blizzard released Wrath way too soon, but it is a quality product if a little rough edged.

I don't like WoW at all. I have played and i have plenty of friends that do. I think personally it's a terrible game. But if people want to play it i don't care it's not like i go out of my way to stop people playing it.

And for people who complain about people playing it excessivly why are you complaing it's not you and you proberly play console games just as much/

I think City of Heroes/Villains is much better. Or atleast could be MUCH better. They lack content and players. But powersets, classes and Chara customization is awesome.

WoW is much like Everquest. At least Warhammer tried something somewhat newish. But none of them can compare to CoX

Safe to say that a long time after you quit wow it was still dominating your life. All that essay writing. No wonder you hate it so.

Perhaps you should have maybe balanced it with other activities so it didn't get that bad.

Blame the game all you like. It was your choice I assume.


With a bit of self respect you can survive almost anything. Even a video game.

Actually, I didn't play it all that long. A week was enough to get to the highest level and see endgame. And talk to enough people in the game to learn how everything else worked. Truth be told, I only played it for four days, but my point still stands.

You made it sound like I played it for like a whole year. Nope, WoW was so bad in comparison to FFXI that it made me love FFXI for pretty much ever. And don't think that's a biased comparison either. I've tried a few other MMO's in my time- Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, City of Villains, EVE Online, Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE Online. None of them had the same appeal FFXI did, but none of them sucked quite as bad as WoW did. Well... maybe MegaTen.

Depends on whether or not you think fair criticism amounts to 'bashing'. I'm an ex-WoW player and am very pleased that I quit. I have my criticisms of the game, which is why I left. Principally because it was no longer fun. Having a subscription meant that if I didn't play for long periods, I felt bad that I wasn't getting my money's worth, so I was compelled to play out of a sense of obligation rather than desire ("I've purchased the bloody play-time, might as well get something out of it").

It was also to do with what I perceived as the game encouraging a false sense of achievement. Far too much time is required of you to achieve anything 'meaningful' and I don't have the time nor the passion to play 40+ hours a work and study the game to the point that I could forge the ultimate in end-game armor sets.

I work for a large IT firm. I spend enough time at a computer as it is. Being sedentary for so long makes me feel unwell. WoW did not help. So I quit. Not saying it wasn't fun for awhile. However it didn't stay fun and I think what you may interpret as 'bashing' is entirely fair criticism, depending on your lifestyle and habits as a gamer.

I just cancelled my WoW subscription, about 2 hours ago, but I don't hate the game. WoW-haters and WoW-fanboys are both equally irritating in my p.o.v. Sure there are enough ligitimate criticisms to think off, I quitted for a reason, but lots of the bashing is simply...irrational.

@Stammer: I would be interested in that assay actually. I mean, damn, you really hate WoW, sure as hell wonder where thát came from. I'm on a popular Warhammer forum regulary, never thought I would see more WoW hate then there. Guess I was wrong.

...Ah yes. The eternal question on why people bash World of Warcrap (note the proper spelling). It all started when everyone I knew at school started raving about it. I was in grade 10 and half of my school was all over it. So I decided to give my MMO (Final Fantasy XI Online) a break and give this game a try.

Ho-ly-crap. It just had so many flaws in it that I didn't like it. It was just begging for me to hate it. But I didn't hate it at the time.

No, it wasn't until people started asking me why I quit it. I explained to them nicely that I preferred my MMO. And then the fanboyism kicked in. Everyone started dissing FFXI as well as every other video game on the planet in defense of their Lord and Master. So what did I do? I naturally retaliated. The facts and opinions I collected over the next two years sort of solidified my ever-lasting enmity towards WoW. I now have one three-verse song explaining why WoW sucks, one 4600-word essay on why WoW sucks, one three-page essay (that I submitted as an actual English paper for an A) on why WoW sucks, and one 6800-word essay on why WoW sucks. All three essays are different and explain different reasons. The 6800-word one being the last thing I wrote, composed of days of research finding pictures, opinions, numerical facts, other facts, and theories.

I no longer give a crap, because as people stopped treating it like Jesus, I stopped having to mock people for their lack of facts and shoving in their faces the truth.

That doesn't mean I don't hate the game though. And I still always have to make a "World of Warcrap sucks" comment whenever I see a WoW-related thread on this site. All it means is I don't actively go out and slap people over the head with a 12-page essay anymore.

You're more addicted to World of Warcraft(note the correct spelling) then those idiots that let their kid die. For the record I am a WoW player and I know it isn't the master of all games(that's lemmings) it's fine that you didn't like alot of people don't, also the people at your school sound like retards and they probably all play alliance (sorry to any alliance players reading I always have to slip in a pro-horde comment somewhere) and by that I mean they didn't respect your choice in gaming. Of course saying that makes me look like a hypocritical asshole but what I'm getting at is just because the people at your school forced you down to their level, doesn't mean you have to carry on the mentalitiy to a place where actual intelligent discussions take place.

I made an assumption based on how much trouble you went to. I guess if someone said they wrote several papers on any subject, academic or not I'd imagine they'd have been studying the subject longer than 4 days for it to be actually a balanced summary.

You don't like wow. That's totally cool. Just remember to respect other people's choices. Recognising and accepting diversity is a powerful academic tool.

Sure you can't see everything in 4 days. But if game is weak in those 4 days, why should I assume the rest of it is any better?

First impression is the most important. See Age of Conan - it had a great start (well, still has - up to 20 level), but then people saw the rest of the game is horrible.

I don't hate the playa, I hate the game. Only time I take exception to that rule is when the playa decides to insult everything else in existence in defense of the game. Especially when it is insanely untrue things like "WoW has the best graphics EVER".

I only played the game for 4 days. But like I said, I did research into everything else that I hadn't done. I heared opinions from people across the board. I went on Google and found pictures to explain my points. That sort of thing. But you don't need to see every aspect of the game to know how it works. I wrote a guide for two new classes in FFXI within a week of the expansion's release, before I installed it myself or partied with any players of those classes. And the only things I've ever edited on the guides were updates to them over time.

MMORPG's are predictable. Especially when all 4 days you play one, you're stuck doing quests that force you to "kill X monsters" or "collect X items". The lack of variation in quests is what killed me.

People put things down because they think they're shit. People perhaps put WoW down because the WoW community do really annoying things like spell the word "the" as "teh" and suchlike.

Also, why do you care? So what if we show distaste toward you and your ilk and what you like doing, fuck what we think and go play your game.
