Hah! They just want to pump up their user numbers for the next year so people who "quit" will still be on the rolls until the end of next year.
This is like the way XM/Sirius bundled a year subscription into the purchase of most new cars a few years ago. That way their "user" numbers were artificially inflated so it looked a lot more popular than it really was.
