Since this is an off topic discussion, I'm giving a book as an example. Stephen King's Cell. The story is greaat and it's a really good book, but the end is a cock slap. (Trying to avoid a spoiler) I guess they wanted us to gather our own conclusion as to whether it worked out like the protagonist wanted it to. Did it work? I like to think it did.
Haha, I picked that book out in a library to thumb through while I was waiting on a bus. It was an absolutely huge book. The beginning was insanely gorey, just the standard madness of "Oh noes, zombie apocalypse!" and I got about 30 pages in (the bus timetable where I live is a joke) Then when it finally appeared I flicked to the last page just for the sake of it, and it gives that massive "cock slap" (I think your words are the perfect description of it)

I can only imagine what it must have been like to read through the entire book and then see that... abominable cliffhanger on a plotline that was established at the very beginning. I'm sorry for your loss.

Luckily I got it on audiobook from a library and listened to it while driving around delivering pizzas. I'm glad I did, but at first I thought I was missing a disc.

]Definitely RAGE.

About Borderlands.. I actually really enjoyed the ending for that story wise.
You go the whole game hearing but whispers of the Vault, of it holding great power (supposedly alien tech). You're warned early on that these are just rumors, but that part seems to slip the mind.. It's a game about treasure hunters, I think most players were picturing the same thing as me, an endless hall of weapons and tech to pick from. Then you're there, you're on victory road headed for that final conflict, and bam! Just as soon as you see it, it's gone, locked away from you forever. You're left standing clueless in front of the ruins of your supposed prize.
To me and my friends, this was the best possible ending. Sure it would've been nice to pick through an armory of alien weaponry.. But whats the point if that's the end of the game?
It was depressing, confusing and left you wanting more.(You yourself feeling these emotions, not your character.) what more could one ask for?
Your standards must be rather low then... Even as a person who plays way too much Borderlands and likes the game, I hated the ending... Talk about anti-climax...

You get to fight a giant tentacle vagina-looking boss that kills the person you've been chasing and trying to kill. You are awarded none of the loot that you've been hearing the Vault has contained, and instead be given a pile of usually worthless loot not worth using or prizing, to sell.

DLC3 definitely seemed to be what people did want in the ending but were "denied". It added so much shit and I almost never venture back out of that DLC area. You get a massive stockpile of loot that you can sift through for a limited time, though you can actually bypass this by using a glitch to get in so you can have unlimited time to open all the chests as well as return any time you want to farm it again.

I think someone actually counted the amount of chests in the Armory and it was... 137 chests.

Also Crawmerax is a pretty challenging boss to say the least, at least until you get used to it, I can usually solo him in 2 minutes or so now. He drops a good 50 or so items and the loot pools are apparently far, far better than anywhere else in the game, so you'll find great gear this way more often.

Fable 2, I mean seriously...

On a side not: Mah boi, use the spoiler tags!
Have to second Fable 2. Fight a decently easy floating thingy and then face off against... oh wait that WAS the final fight? -__-
I actually kind of liked the end to Fable 2. It made a lot of sense; I mean, what were you expecting? The guys like 70 years old.

I'm a big fan of subverted tropes, though.

Now, the ending to Fable 3 was complete bullshit, and anyone who's played knows exactly why.

While Valkyrie Profile Lenneth is easily one of my favorite games, it sadly has a horrible ending. Here´s the thing: you have a war between two goodly races witch will with peace or Ragnarok. At the same time, some of the good goods go against each other and the human world is slowly going to hell because of wars, plagues and tyranny. All of this is totally thrown away only to make the protagonist and her dead boyfriend get united...and then the game ends. Disappointing deluxe
this, ending A is ... ugh .... though most the events leading up to ending A are pretty awesome (blood bane can go fuck it self though)

must be the only one on this site that liked MGS4's ending :/

The ending was supposed to be blunt and unhappy. The supposed "good protagonist" died for greed and stubbornness, and it ended in the possible death of his wife and family.

Tommy Lee Jone's character expresses that whoever the bad guy was had destroyed his view of a good and clean world. So he retired. Because he was afraid of death.

It was a very human and realistic ending.
So instead of giving a satisfying ending to a good movie, they gave a shit ending to a good movie. Wow! That completely shattered my expectations! Genius!
Uhh, no. It's called tragedy. That's the whole point.

It was a very hard ending to understand, because you have to think back to the start of the film and remember that monologue.

Also, best ending of all time for TV shows - tie between The Sopranos and Six Feet Deep. Both blew my fucking mind apart.

Worst ending movie: Inception. I mean who actually gave enough of a fuck about DiCaprio's character to care what his fate was...
