I've been thinking of making this thread for quite a while. Sometimes fanservice (and I mean the sexualizing kind), whether male or female, just reaches a point where you want to punch someone and go "FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!" I don't watch anime much, but I've gotten the impression that this problem has been growing in the last few years. But the final straw for me was the latest chapter of History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. I read the first few chapters a year ago and hated it, but I check out a couple of pages of a new chapter every now and then, just to see if it can get any stupider.

But when I saw this [http://www.mangareader.net/historys-strongest-disciple-kenichi/574] today when I checked out the new chapter out of morbid curiosity, I knew I couldn't hold it in anymore. I mean Jesus Christ, even the dumbest, horniest, most stereotypical 13-year old shounen target audience member would be insulted by that image, not to even mention what follows when you read the chapter onward. In fact that chapter is on the meeker side when compared to something like this [http://www.mangareader.net/historys-strongest-disciple-kenichi/564/3]. HEY AUTHOR, I DON'T THINK HER TITS ARE BIG ENOUGH! WHY DON'T YOU MAKE THEM THE SIZE OF TRACTOR TIRES!?

What are your examples of this? Anything counts, whether manga, anime, movie, video game or the like.

Probably the entirety of air gear. Fanservice was all that show had. The story went completely off the rails and lots it's own plot about halfway through.

Yah! Another chance to share the "not technically porn but you probably shouldn't watch this on your work computer and you'll feel a little dirty right afterwards" video!

Yeah...that just happened. The entire show is basically that. It's actually a really cool idea for a show but I feel like it's doing a disservice to itself with all the freaking fan service in it. I can't really recommend this show to...well....anyone really unless I know them well enough that they know I'm not watching this show all day with my pants off...

Asuka's plugsuit in Rebuild 2 was petty fucking ridiculous. It made it impossible for me to take the following dramatic scene in any way serious. 'Oh no, Asuka is in danger... while wearing a plugsuit with a conveniently transparent torso section, showing off he bra, the crack of her ass, and nearly her cootch. Oh the humanity!' That movie can go fuck itself just for that scene alone.

I would say To Love Ru, but it is kind of the point, and the rivalry between the artist and Japan's censorship laws are pretty entertaining.

I just finished up Black Butler II and there's an episode near the end called "Welcome to Phantomhive Manor." It's a filler story completely unrelated to the main plot, and takes place mostly from the first-person perspective of a nameless, faceless female character brought to the Phantomhive manor as a guest.

The episode follows her as she's given a tour by Sebastian through the manor, is doted on and such, and even gets carried by him when she spills tea on her dress and needs to go change. Midway through you find out she's actually an assassin come to kill Ciel, but she gets caught by Sebastian before she knifes Ciel in his sleep. But Ciel wakes up just as Sebastian is about to kill her, and Sebastian wants to avoid making a scene, so he lets her go free.

The ball she came to attend begins, and Sebastian dances with her, talks about how he will kill her the moment she tries to lay a hand on Ciel, all sorts of romantic things. She gets kidnapped and rescued by Sebastian, and then they return to the manor and the ball where it turns out the whole thing was a surprise birthday party for her. How quaint. They have cake, she's well wished by Ciel and Sebastian and the rest, and as she leaves the manor in her carriage she throws the knife out the window, seeming to give up her career as an assassin.

It's reeeeeeeeaally fanservicy, obviously set up to be a self-insert fantasy with Sebastian. I've seen some contrived fanservice in my day, but this one had a few slices of creepy I've yet to see in an anime that has other reasons to exist apart from fanservice.

That overated crap Ghost In the Shell has a stupid bimbo robot taking her clothes off to work. I saw that, then said, FTS! and left the video.
Except in Ghost in the Shell (the movie) it's not sexualized at all. There's nudity, yes, but it's not for the sake of titillation. It's actually very sterilzed and cold. Kind of like a mannequin or robot.

The cretinously moronic version of Mystique in the xmen films is a pathetic joke.
She has zero reason to be naked. She has breasts, so she would wear clothes. If a females not got breasts and her genitals are all inside, then she does'nt have to wear clothes. But if she's got breasts, then she does wear clothes.
Also, breasts only exist to have nipples on. For both genders. No nipples, no breasts on females, and they have a chest that is nothing but muscle, like the males.
Mystique has boob shapes, but no nipples. She makes zero sense in any way shape or form.

They need to get rid of all the x men films cannon and stop making the films or do them properly.
With a Mystique who wears white clothes and skull accessories. That Mystique is awesome.
And her being able to morph her clothes as part of her genetic mutation makes more sense?

The second season of Code Geass actually.

I've seen shows with far more blatant fan-service but none of them were anywhere near as out-of-tone as the second season of Code Geass.

The characters are supposed to be getting rather depressed, hopeless and all-around the tone seems very much on the dramatic, friends being lost, betrayals etc.

And yet I find myself looking at large-breasted female characters who've supposedly glued the inside of their shirts to their breasts to outline them perfectly...

Okay, guys and gals and everyone in between: I raise you one Gantz, the manga.

The chapter title pages often feature a sexy woman who's not in the chapter at all, wearing either very few (if any) clothes, or a skintight outfit. Though to be fair, I need to mention that the skintight outfits are what every character, male and female, wears in the actual manga.

But in one chapter in volume 12, the title page girl is bikini-clad and on the beach. See, the title page is also a poster that appears in one panel where we can see it hanging on a wall.

Elfen Lied. Not because the fanservice itself is so bad, though it can be, but because there was actually some real potential for a great story in there.

ME: You should check out this show called Elfen Lied on Netflix. The story is good, the characters are tragic but captivating, and the music is painfully beautiful.

FRIEND: Sounds good. Maybe I'll try it.

ME: Also... also the main character pees herself.

FRIEND: ...

ME: But just once. *sips Coffey while looking friend in the eye*

FRIEND: Oh...

ME: But once you get past that, it's fine.

FRIEND: Okay...

ME: Also, the other main character then has to change her clothes. And then he starts dating his cousin. And then one of the female characters has her clothes torn off for no reason.

FRIEND: ...

ME: ...

Hm. I will have to go with Fairy Tail. There are probably worse examples out there, but I don't think there is a single battle in the entire series where a character doesn't lose pretty much all their clothing. I can appreciate that it subverts the indestructible clothing trope, but the result is blatantly sexualized. And not just for the female characters, either. Never mind the chapters that are outright dedicated to fanservice.

In the film, at least. In SAC, it was really jarring to see the Major wandering around the office without pants on. And no, I don't buy the excuse that in the future, nobody really cares about modesty standards in cybernetic bodies. She's the only one who really does it, and there is no reason other than to show off her legs. It also doesn't help that her tactical armor looks way better.

I completely forgot about those parts of Elfen Lied, mostly because after you watch it, you won't remember those at all. Early on it kind of makes the impression it will be a silly house romance kinda thing, granted this is after we saw our female lead walk naked out of a base while gutting every guard in her way with horrible psychic powers. Its good but fucked up and personally, I never viewed it as fan service, there is a good amount of nudity but it doesn't seem to be played for fan service. If I remember right, the peeing scene was mostly to show that she currently had the mind of a child and was innocent as opposed to her just having slaughtered her way out of a base. I don't know if I would recommend it and I know I don't feel the need to watch it again, but I think it was good.

The one that first really jumped out to me is Unreal 2.

You Are a Male power armoured badass!

your Male mechanic is a grizzled, overcoat and mech harness wearing dude!

Your Pilot is an alien in a heavy Encounter Suit!

Your female tactician wears hot-pants a split-front halter top!

Not to mention later in the game the female only faction of humanoid mercs has power loader scale mechsuits like the other human merc factions... but only theirs has glass fronted canopies that show the pilots, and said pilots are wearing only three scraps of cloth.

The beach filler episode of Bleach; they couldn't have made it any more fan-servicey if they'd tried. All of a sudden the vast majority of the female cast is at the beach, in bikinis, and I swear they slow-pan the camera from foot to head up every single one of them. It's so shameless it's almost funny.

I'm going to go with Ninja Scroll, personally. I mean, yes, it's a sort of 'coming of age' thing for anime geeks, but it's clearly just fan service for fan service's sake. Let's make her naked and have a rock version of Colossus rape her! So our hero can just walk right up and kill the guy, to prove he's a badass!
Me: "What the shit am I watching?"

Yeah, Histories Strongest Disciple is pretty bad with the fan service. Miu and some of the other girls in it commonly end up fighting in tatters with only small bits of cloth and "motion blur" hiding their nipples and such. And Shigure often ends up in a similar fashion. Hell, she actually fought completely naked. I usually pass right over the chapter start pages as they are always just a female character being used for fan service.

Yet, it wasn't too bad to me.

High School of the Dead is actually worse, honestly, yet I enjoyed it. Largely as it was so stupid and unapologetic that you kinda felt they knew how Over The Top it was and simply embraced it.

No, I think Harem Anime are the worst. Just any Harem Anime. They generally have little plot, annoying characters, and are basically there just to ogle the female characters who often get into fan service scenarios. Action anime usually have actual plot and conflict. But I can't stand Harem anime.

Also, about half of what Bennet the Sage has reviewed on Anime Abandon. Man, there have been some horrible shit which took fan service too far on his show. More than a few were added to my "Don't even bother" list.

Worst examples of blatant fanservice?

Uhm... Pfff, I don't know, maybe just 75% of EVERYTHING coming from Japan?
Be it game, manga or anime - Japan will find a way.
