A bizarre and unconscionable phenomenon is when a fanboy not only admits but embraces his ghastly status and begins to mire in delusions of having some level of notability and, even less credulously, importance among fans.
This is often confirmed by the fantasy that they, personally, are an help meet for the franchise, that they are somehow involved with or invested in a given franchise anymore than anyone else that played the game(s), and, above all, that the future of a series and the developers themselves owe them something on a distinctly personal level.
Appeased, these persons (the term 'persons' being used in light of how impossible adhesion into a group becomes due to their nature) are at worst extremely vocal, perpetually irascible, and incessantly condescending.
However, even the pettiest displeasure can, at any moment, spark wild and unassailable delusions of betrayal and that the true ownership of a property has fallen from those who they perceive as having so grossly mishandled it and into their own stewardship. Once a fan has reached this point they are terminal and generally unsalvageable.
The condition can strike anyone at any time, but victims can frequently be culled from Sonic, Final Fantasy, and Zelda followings, among others.
No known treatment is sufficiently documented beyond chemical sterilization and prayer- in that order.
