Walking in a game for 20+ minutes before actually doing anything
Actually, when it's done right, that can be quite effective in drawing you into a story. Look at Half-Life. Because it showed you the hero's life BEFORE he became a hero, it seems believable.

Anyway, back on topic, I think games that strive to be "completely realistic" are just plain stupid. Far Cry 2's guns would jam up, and you had to manually remove bullets. Sounds fun right? WRONG. It may be realistic, but it doesn't belong in a game

Making a game world huge and not having enough content to fill it with.
Having NPC's change voice in the middle of a conversation.
Give everything a shade of grey to make it look "realistic"

Agreed, I was speaking more along the lines of Fallout3. I would find myself walking around the wasteland for endless amounts of time whilst not doing anything, only to find out that there was something I needed to do that was 20 miles back in the other direction :[

My characters always look like ugly bastards no matter how long I sit in around trying to make them look badass.

I've always believed that that's why the guards always attack me.
Lol and I was always wondering why...

(gunna sooo get criticized for this) but taking out the health bars in video games for regenerating hp or other replacements that makes fps games take a lot less skill (seriously in CoD2 you had to find hp or die not sit in a freaking corner and wait for 5 seconds

"Tie" Beat Downs in Halo 3 matchmaking.

You honestly want me to believe that we hit at THE EXACT SAME MOMENT?
Hell no.

Showing off new lighting technology by making the game too dark to see in 90% of the time. forcing you to use a flashlight, then BAM something nasty jumps out at you and you need to swap to a gun to shoot it, but wait, you can't see it now to aim... (my experiences in Doom III in a nutshell)
Another game that shows off it's lighting technology is Mirrors Edge. They make it so bright that it blinds you and causes you to plunge to your death. All the time.
Very true, there's one thing to add light blindness for reality, and another to have it a functional feature in a game that's based on speed and timing.

I find regenerating health takes more skill. In Half Life 2 you can get the hell shot out of you, walk around a corner, pick up a few health kits and you're good to go. In Halo or Call of Duty, especially on harder difficulties, failing to notice a single enemy or getting out of cover at the wrong time kills you instantly instead of taking half your health off.

you say that but think, you can still restore that hp easily, think if you couldnt you had to go through the entire level without being able to heal (or with limited rations i dont like the game when it overflows you with healing items thats boring)

When realism gets in the way of Fun and the lack of Manual enemy lock on in Star Ocean The Last Hope. In turn based RPGs having your chracters turn wasted because the person who attacked before already killed the same monster. Just hit the other monster!

The cmbat system in GTA4 on pc. The targetting reticle is a single white pixel! And to aim, you have to zoom in so far you cannot shoot anyone who is within 10m if they are moving.

This may upset a few but.......... constant farking encounters in JRPGs. I like them (JRPGs), well I really really want to like them but frickin allow me to cross the room, map, dungeon screen with out two dozen encounters.

And where the hell are all these critters coming from? 50 Cactur in one room, wow, how did I miss them?

Rant over.

PS: I know some are finally getting rid of them for alternate encounter fights but its beena long time coming.

In Lost Planet, your character needs to collect Thermal Energy from dead things to keep warm on the really cold planet that he is on. In Lost Planet 2, from the trailer, the really cold planet is experiencing global warming on a large scale, and is now temperate. However, your character still needs Thermal Energy even though it is no longer cold enough to get frostbite and die.

Create your own character in guitar hero world tour.

who is it exactly thats paying attention to whats going on in the background? better still why even have the stupid background video in the first place.

then there would be more space for better songs! right?
