The mortar launcher in Worms Armageddon (And probably all other Worms games). Incredibly hard to hit with due to its automatically firing at full power, and it's damge only comes from the five smaller bombs it ejects when it lands, and they spread out so much that it's unlikely you'll hit much with it.

I'm looking at you, UT2k4 Bio-rifle.

Now that's said, I can't stand most "Uzi" style weapons. Infact, anything with rapid-fire (Barring the Ut2k4 Minigun, and Quake 4's Nail Gun. Homing nails. Best weapon ever?) I don't like. Why? It eats through bullets at unholy speeds, and it takes a good half-clip to kill a single guy. Yes, all the enemies use them. That's why they're dead, and I'm standing here with a pistol having shot them all through the face, nicking whatever pistol ammo they DID drop.

So yes. Anything that fires sludge, or highly inaccurate bullets swarms. I like to hit people, not do a stormtrooper impression and trace the baddies outlines on the wall.

Totally disagree. The mortar was more than awesome at dropping worms to the ocean, and killing them.

Most melee weapons aren't properly implemented in either first or third-person shooters. Problem with hit detection, cruddy damage, and just generally being horrible are some of the most common problems I've found.

In fact, all melee weapons in a multiplayer-focused FPS should probably be one-hit or two-hit kills.

And as far as third-person shooter go, they just don't tend to be worth using unless the game is something like Hitman: Blood Money, where not every enemy has to be killed and they won't attack you on sight.

I used to be incredibly good with the Worms mortar. It's got a unique trajectory that doesn't match any other weapon, so some targets that you can't hit with grenades or missiles can be reached with the mortar as it catches the wind so well.

The cane in the old Jekyll and Hyde game on the NES. It's so useful it does absolutely no damage to anyone, brilliant.
That there.

In my opinion the worst weapons I've ever seen in a game are:

1. The bubble gun from Earthworm Jim (it was funny but ultimately pointless)

2. The wrench/stone/head etc. from Splatterhouse (granted, it was often a one-hit kill but so was your fist and pretty much every other weapon in the game, the extra range didn't strike me as a good enough reason to drop my cleaver of doom)

3. The spear gun from Cold Fear (you can lure enemies to a specific spot now! Not so handy when you remember that you're on a ship fighting in narrow hallways in the dark against enemies who will often ignore your bait and attack you anyway).

Any pistol in COD 5. they suck!
You must have some god awful aim then...
I loved the pistols in that game (and it is NOT CoD5, it is CoD:WaW)

The Chinese Pistol in Fallout 3 takes the cake, and then destroys the cake because it is really that bad.

The syringe/ anaesthetic in the Hitman games. Look, just get a suppressed pistol...
You can't kill someone from the other side of a level by shooting their food with a suppressed pistol, can you now? Did you even know you can taint a target's food and drinks with the syringe, or are you the 'go in all guns blazing' type who never thought of that?
Yes, I do know you can do that sort of thing. It does help, particularly in the Beldingford manor. But I'm not very bothered about striving for Silent Assassin rank, and personally speaking I'm much better in a straight shoot-out than I am at stealth.

Someone mentioned the Zodiac from R&C2- not worth the bolts, but somehow... that Chinese pistol still clinches it for me.

the revolver thing in fallout 3. It does less damage then a normal 10 mm pistol,it is less accurate and it uses expensive and rare ammo

The fists in DOOM, the first one atleast. Often the melee attack is quite powerful, but not here it aint. It is WORTHLESS!

I also agree with the spectacularly bad Chinese pistol in Fallout 3. I picked it up, fired it in a rat roaches face and just said "No". Dropped it and ran.

It had its uses. Like the Satyrs and the Spear, I wouldn't dream of facing the Beserkers with anything other than the Hammer. Of course, the Spear also served in other areas, and its upgrades were cool - the Hammer might have been better if the Souls were as powerful as they were in GoW.
Meh. It was always too slow for me. Maybe it's just my personal taste.

But I have to say worst is fists in the elder scrolls games. Yeah, you can punch stuff and pretend to be all Mr. Kung Fu, but seriously... what's the point of punching stuff when you can grab a knife, sword, axe, mace, spell....
Remember Gaenor? Well, Gaenor's dead, wanna know how?

Fists, it's cheap, but it got me through the game.

Just keep punching them till their fatigue enters the negative range, and then quickly switch to your best weapon (the weapons do twice as much damage when an opponent is down) or spell and *Does best Sgt. Johnson impersonation* let 'em have it!

Was it honorable? Hell no, but honor went out yonder window when I got my hands on the Darkbrotherhood gear...AND became a werewolf.

Zodiac from Ratchet & Clank 2. Fukken hated that gun. Not worth the bolt grind.
Fully agree. I spent like 20 hours grinding the game for bolts, but then I find out the weapon hardly does any damage to bosses, and the ammo is so expensive. It only carried around four rounds, so it wasn't useful. But my worst video game weapon is probably the Pokeball in Super Smash Bros when you got a Goldeen.

While not a contender for the worst video game weapon full stop, I think the "Kozlice" over/under shotgun in Operation Flashpoint deserves a mention. It's easily the worst weapon in the game. You can only load two rounds at a time - a slug in one barrel, and a shell in the other. The shell is halfway decent, but the slug isn't powerful enough so it frequently takes more than one shot to down a single foe. Either way, you're lucky to get one kill per shot, and with only two shots per 3 second reload, that's a pitifully low rate of fire. To make things worse, each slug/shell takes up one primary inventory slot (there are 10), while a 30 round magazine for any assault rifle would fit in the same slot. This means that, using a Kozlice, you can carry a maximum of 10 spare slugs and shells, while a massive 300 rounds of assault rifle ammo would fit in the same space.

Of course, the thing is only ever used by civilian militia, so the fact that it sucks is kind of the whole point of its inclusion, but still, it's hard to ignore just how much it pales in comparison to the other weapons.

Fun fact, the gun's real name is TOZ-34, and it appears in STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (all of its assets are in the game but it can't be found anywhere, most mods add it) and its prequel - Clear Sky.
