Worth buying Oblivion?

I have played both Morrowwind and Oblivion. I'm not a graphics whore by any account by Oblivion trumps Morrowwind. I spent hours walking around Morrowwind bored out of my brain in the muddy brown country side. I finally found some humans to fight and they were too high of a level for me. Oblivion just seemed much more interesting and I'm not sure why people say it's bad. It's actually one of the best launch titles I've seen for a while. Considering you can get it HELLA cheap now and packed in with other games I wouldn't hesitate buying it.

If you're using a PC, get Oblivion, then mod it so heavily that you forget that it's Oblivion. If you're on a console, get Morrowind: Game of the Year for the X-Box.

So I am an ignorant, arrogant, naive, petty ***** living in a "sheltered world" now for not liking Oblivion? Are you serious?! "Sheltered world"? It's a damn video game for the love of God!
Nope, you're an ignorant, arrogant, naive, petty ***** living in a sheltered world for trying to justify that it's one of the poorest RPGs in existence, that's a fairly huge leap from not liking it. Going back to my original post, try a game like Lagoon for the SNES or one of the FFVII clones that came out back in the day - games that are broken in every way physically, morally, and imaginably possible - and then I won't react as strongly to such a vapid claim.

As someone who did not play Morrowind I can easily say it is a fantastic game.
In fact, it is actually probably my most favourite game of all time.
I really do not understand how people can say it is a "bad" and "broken" game.
Pile on the hate, but I'd say it's better than Fallout 3.
And yes, it's now cheap as hell, so there's no excuse for not buying it.

Buy it, but be careful. I once played six hours and then i couldn't sleep.
Sure the people seem dead, but hey, they're fun to kill!
A lot of people say it sucks, but that's probably cos they suck at it.

TES3 was filled with easy-ass escort missions and "kill X amount of Y".
Please refresh my memory. What quest in Morrowind ever made you kill a certain amount of a monster?
Mudcrab Pests, Kagouti Den, Muck, Sload Soap, those are the ones i remember at the top of my head right now and even then there were endless of quests that simply made you walk miles just to kill 2 fucking mudcrabs or retrieve 5 pieces of dirt.

In my opinion Oblivion is one of the best games of this or the last generation.

Most certainly leaps and bounds better than Morrowind.

Your making a big mistake. It's not merely bad, it goes beyond bad.
Nah. In fact, I'd say Morrowind makes me more angry then any other game I ever played. Mostly because no matter what you do, starting out SUCKS. I was SLEEPING on my very first time in the game and some assassin came and just bit a chunk of my ass off.

to answer your question:

yes and no

yes: because it is good fun, some crude humor (if you get shivering isles expansion as well) also, there is a HUGE mod community (if you get it on pc) to expand your game further with new weapons, side story lines (mod side quests) and graphic modifications (eg HD mods). and if you cant get into the modding, there is an unoffical oblivion patch which fixes ALOT of the bugs and glitches.

no: it can get repeditive, and for unless you REEEAAAALLLYYYY want to listen and read all the dialogue, books and what not, the story can get mind bogginly confusing.

so basically, i would recomend to get it on pc, but if you wanna get it on ps3 or 360... i dont know, im a pc gamer, ask someone else about those sorta things.

and, to see many peeps agreeing with yahtzees review, might i remind you that he did his review on the CONSOLE version, the pc (in my opinion) is much better (patches patches patches!) in light of mods and what-not...

fallout 3... yeah, but fallout 3's story was REALLY short, boring and tedious. i mean, come on, the "final boss" was a guy in a trench coat with a 9mm pistol! his guards were harder than him cos they had power armor AND mini guns! i did it with my fully repaired chinese assult rifle.

one more thing, oblivion has an "after game" while fallout 3 doesnt, which REALLY pissed me off.

Why the Oblivion hate all of a sudden? Oblivion isn't terrible. It's an amazing game in it's own way. It's not as immersive as Morrowind but it's a lot of fun, and with mods you can never really stop playing it.

I'd say yes, it's definitely worth buying. Story-wise it's nothing special, but it's the world, the amount of things to do and the amount of mods that make it an amazing experience.

Prepare to invest in at least another gigabyte of RAM, and make sure you have a graphics card the technological equivalent of the Holy Grail, cause if you don't, prepare for lag. Other than that, the game is actually pretty fun, and the user created content found online can really enhance the experience.
