Would You Buy A Console For One Game?

Well, at first, maybe. But you can't honestly tell me you would have zero interest in playing any of the other games only available on that platform?

I bought a WiiU for Mario Kart 8. I ended up with 5 games.
I bought a PS Vita for Persona 4 Golden. I ended up with 4 games.
I bought a 3DS for Pokemon. I ended up with...3 games. That one I'm still working on.

I was going to buy a PS4 for MGS5, but that's getting a PC port, so...Kingdom Hearts 3 maybe?

Point is, yes, there was usually one or two games that caught my eye, but I always ended up buying more games for it anyway.

I've been sitting on getting a PS4 because there isn't a single game that is really calling to me. I'm not going to buy a console and half a dozen games all at once, it's going to be a console and one, two at the most games. So far, the PS4 games I would most like are ports of games I've already played on the PS3.

But generally, one game is why I buy the console and then add to my library. For PS1, it was a Final Fantasy game. For 2 & 3, it was GTA games. 4 will probably be Farcry 4, but may end up waiting until Battlefront 3.

Generally, I look for a game that I know I will spend a whole lot of time on. If Beyond Earth were a console exclusive, I would buy it for that game. I'd probably also buy a console for an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game if they weren't on PC.

Not a chance. $460+ for 1 game is never an option, since $460 gets me 30+ games.
Wow, is that what the new console's are going for these days? I haven't even priced them at all. When I got my PS 3, I think it cost me like $150 or $200 used. And I think it was about a year after the release of the consoles. I think I'll wait till the PS 4 comes WAAAY down in price before getting one. xD

If I get it, I admit it will be so I can play inFamous: Second Son, and the new one they're promoting now.

Call me biased (probably am), but if the game is a 3D Mario Platformer, then the answer is "yes!" I was raised on the N64, and Super Mario 64 is my favorite Mario game of all time. Super Mario Sunshine was fun, but not as good as the N64 game. However, wanting to always get the newest 3D Mario Platformer, I'd always get the Nintendo Console by Christmas of it's launch year, even if I'm not a fan of the Console itself. It was the reason I bothered getting a DS (and then Kirby's Canvas Curse made me realize the awesome potential of the thing), because it came with a Port of Super Mario 64. It was also the reason I got a Wii (Probably would've skipped it, but Super Mario Galaxy 1 was to amazing to pass up), a 3DS (Super Mario 3D Land is my 2nd favorite Mario Platformer), and a WiiU (A little disappointed that the title was Super Mario 3D World, but the game is fun still and looks great).

Other Consoles, I need at least 3 games to bother getting the Console. So I only have a WiiU and 3DS this generation because neither the PS4 or XBone have 3 things that interest me.

yep :)
I always buy Nintendo consoles because a new Zelda game is coming for it. I used to always say that I wouldn't buy it, but its been this way since the GameCube era, DS, 3DS, Wii. I'm done fighting it now though, I wholeheartedly admit, I'm a fanboy and I'll buy any console that has a Zelda title coming out for it. Still surprised neither Microsoft or Sony have made a game that has the same style/formula as Zelda series does... I don't think it's that hard to emulate is it?

Yes.

A playable demo of Nights at Wal-mart made me buy a Sega Saturn, a playable demo of Jumping Flash made me get a PS1, and a playable demo of Mario 64 at Wal-mart made me buy an N64. Playing the original Halo on a friend's Xbox made me buy one and I got a Gamecube before there was even a game to play on it.

I didn't regret any of those purchases, and eventually I grabbed a few more games and really got into them all. But I do question if videogames are good enough today to justify it now.

I did that. I bought the 360 just for Space Giraffe. I ended buying more games than that obviously but that was what sold the system for me.

Edit: Was also thisclose to buying a PS3 for Dark Souls.

No, well ok I did bought a DS for Pokemon Diamond but we all know there are great games that came with the DS.

Still it's a no in general or rather it's a gamble if any other games other than the one you're dying to get are also going to be good and how much they dished out for a period of time (I looking at you Nintendo Wii!!!).

Fuck yes, especially if it came in a sweet-ass [console] bundle! I mean:

I bought the Birth By Sleep PSP bundle JUST to play Birth By Sleep...
I bought the Smash Bros. GameCube bundle JUST to play Super Smash Brothers Melee...
I bought a 3DS JUST to play Dream Drop Distance...
I bought a PS3 JUST to play Catherine... and Sonic Generations... and many other games down the line...

Anyway, it may seem like that it will always stay that one game... but then, down the line, it becomes more than just that one game...

It never stays that one game for me... <link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVSRm80WzZk>ever...

In most cases, no.

But if the Wii U had an upcoming Metroid game with boat loads of promise...

I couldn't resist.

Wow, there are a lot of people on here using Persona as an example of a game they bought a console for. Never underestimate the power of the cult classic.

Would and did.

Some advice to anyone planning on doing this: wait until the game is released before you buy a console for it.

I'll be getting a Wii U almost entirely for Smash Bros.

There are a handful of other Wii U exclusive games I have a flighting interest in, but Smash Bros. is easily 85% of the reason why I'll be getting one.

Yes I already did for Metroid (or at least the hope for future ones) on the wii U. I have such a love of the Metroid Primes and the Metroid Universe its partly why I might be getting a Xbone just for Halo MCC becaues its the only equal I can think of and the MCC is equal to the Metroid prime Trilogy collection if not even better for have mulitplayer and one more game than the Metroid Trilogy. There is also former Retro studio personnel in high spots in 343i so I think my faith in them is pretty high. I am one of the few that LIKED Halo 4 but then again I only got to play that and the CE remake.

Short answer. No. Never.

Long answer. If I'm gonna invests in a system then my normal standard is downright 5 games yearly that cater to my preference in gaming. Which isn't hard but I'm really hoping for 5 worth while titles to add to my library. Since as a personal rant it is a personal downer having to deal with game droughts throughout the year. Though it's pretty hard to keep up with games when you got 6 systems and games/dlc that are being released nearly back to back of each other within the month. /rant

For example.

Microsoft Xbox console: I didn't buy the Xbox 360 and I ain't planning on buying the Xbox One. When it comes to the Xbox 360 since launch til now I would have only bought 2 games worth my time and money, which is a damn shame. Same with Xbox One which in its current state offers me nothing. Now the original Xbox offered me at least 10 titles and Steel Battalion was the best experience I had on that system.

Nintendo's console: I didn't buy the Wii U into after a year later once they started releasing dates on their games that I was actually looking forward to. Didn't buy W101 at launch but I got a Wii U by the time Mario 3D World and DKCTF were release. Since by then the game releases were being somewhat more consistent.

I bought my 2ds for pokemon.
Admittedly I've now got other games on it such as New Super Mario Bros 2 and Fire Emblem Awakening (One of favourite games, like top 5 at least) and SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked.
