Would You Pay to Twitter?

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE twitter, but no way in hell I would pay for it, as soon as they start charging people the majority will leave and join something that does the exact same thing for free. I don't know why you all hate twitter so much, its the easyiest way to keep track of things, just follow everything interesting like the escapist and boom in your stream straight away, I think its awesome.

Hell I wouldn't Twitter if they paid me let alone pay for it (although actually I probably would do it if they paid me).

With virtually every other source of online communication available free, the odds of Twitter charging for individual use are virtually zero. The real question seems to be whether it can add enough "value," and stay sufficiently relevant, to generate income in other ways. Not an insurmountable task, perhaps, but as ICQ [http://www.icq.com] found out, certainly not an easy one either.
I was going to bring up something along these lines. As long as whatever service Twitter offers is a new one that adds value, it might not backfire to charge for it. If they just make you pay for things that you are currently getting for free... That is almost sure to backfire.

Meh, I wouldn't twitter now while its free. If one of my friends or family want to know what I'm doing every second of the day, they can call or text me ... and I'll tell them to mind their own damn business.

I think this question is meant for those who already use Twitter, rather unlike me and most of the people here. I do know a couple of Twits, but neither of them are so attached to their imaginary public diary that they'd start shelling out. Maybe Williams and Stone are getting too big for their britches.

I have no desire to keep everyone updated on what I'm doing at all times, and honestly I don't think anyone would really care. I'm not using Twitter now, and I most definitely wouldn't concider paying for it. I probably said that before I started using Facebook as well, though. But that doesn't change the fact that there is pretty much no chance that I'd care enough to pay for it.

I hope they charge. This is getting ridiculous... how the hell is this so popular?
You might as well make a myspace/facebook/something account and write down your status in a blog.

Oh, I so saw this coming. It's a freggin trend nowadays, if something spreads like wildfire for free, let's charge $$$ for it. "Sure, the great majority will drop out a soon as they hear about the paying stuff, but those who stay will make us rich. Right up until they realize that the only ones stayed on were the rich douchebags..."

I hate these marketing schemes with a passion. Services that advertise themselves as FREE*, where the * means "it's FREE, but...". It's free, but for the Premium services, you have to pay. Silver, Gold and Platinum membership, subscription...ehhh. Sure, you can use the basic services for free, but the only services worth using are only for Platinum members...

So all of these sites can go @$#& themselves...

Call me dumb, but I don't get how Twitter works. I don't use it, but when I go to someone's Twitter I see a page half-full of random crap, and the other half is replies to other people's Twitter posts, but when you click the target it just sends you to their twitter instead of the specific post so you have no idea what the initial person was replying to. It just confuses the hell out of me, but then I hate blogging, and really couldn't care less what anyone is up to.

Depends. Paying via phone could be a paying service but on the web? No, that should be free.

I'd pay to watch it die.

But that's mostly bitterness over the fact our entire goddamn government is more concerned with twittering than doing anything.

...Then again...considering how effective they've been since I've been alive maybe them being unmotivated might just keep us safer.
