Would you purposely name your child with something exotic or from a video game etc?

I have always wanted to name a girl "Meryl" from Metal Gear Solid, same spelling, all that jazz.

For boys, I can't say I've put much thought in boys names. I've always been partial to Kincaid, but my Ex had told me that that was more of a middle name then a first (I am inclined to agree with her, but a girlfriend in my future might think otherwise).

I plan on incorporating the name "Alistair" or "Kaidan" somewhere in my son's name, be it middle or first. The husband can pick the daughter's name.

Mostly because I love the meaning behind the names even more than the characters named for them and I love meaningful names.

I've thought a lot about this and have come up with some names:
1]Kratos
2]Kamina
3]Sterling
4]Cain
5]Solomon
6]If I have twins I'll name them Azrael and Samael. Then they wouldn't just be 'our little angels' they'd be 'our little angels OF DEATH' then I'd play Slayer out of my future music device.

My little girl is going to be named Arya Celes, it sounds exotic-ish. But mainly just badass. My husband decided that a boy would be named David Roche (can be pronounced Rock) after Solid Snake.

I'll give the next 15 posts to guess where my first son will be named from, winner gets a cookie.

His name will be Grif.
Definitely past the the 15 post mark, but what the hell, I'm going to guess its from Red vs Blue.

OT:Sure, why not? As long as its not something to unusual sounding of a name, unless I feel like being a troll to my child, I would would definitely name my child something from a video game or something.

I'd totally name my future daughter Lilly. Of course, I'd also like to name her Grace, after one of my favorite albums, so I'd have to choose between the two...
Oh, I know! First name: Lilly, middle name: Grace. It's the best of both worlds!

If I have a daughter, Chell.

If I have a son, Adam. Middle name Jenson.

I think it just works.

I suppose I could name my second child The Chosen One, and my first born could be called - albeit just a little disrespectful to the womb of the hypothetical mother of my hypothetical children - The Vault Dweller.
Although, I won't ask my eldest to replace his mother's broken water (chip)...

I'd quite like to name my daughter Jaina after Jaina Proudmoore from Warcraft.

It's subtle. You'd never know unless someone told you that it's from a video game series.

I named my son Lysander.

The only 'acceptable' Greek name his mother would let me get away with.

Apparently Seleucus is stupid

(I am an Ancient Historian/Archaeologist).
I like you. I would totally let you name the kid after whatever Ancient Greek you wished.

My choices are not from video games, but something similar to the above. I'd like a boy and a girl and to name them Hector and Helen. Alternate for a girl; Ariadne.

Also, any Roman name would be fine with me too. Hadrian or Nero for a boy (though, he'd probably be a bit confused if I named him Nero; because, you know, Nero killed his mother and all). For a girl; Flavia. Extendible to Etruscan Velia or Uni.

... My kids will hate me.

Captcha: horse and cart. Okay?

Well, assuming it gets me free Bethesda games for life, like that one couple who named their kid Dovahkiin... I'll bet anyone here that the kid that was named Dovahkiin will, in his/her (I don't remember) dotage die from an arrow to the NO NO NO NO NO

As long as I didn't think it would mean he or she was going to be bullied into oblivion, I probably would, but I wouldn't punish my kids for the sake of satisfying own geeky interests.

I think that I might give my kids, if/when I have them, names that sound normal, but that I would probably pick because they're associated with a videogame, historical figure, pop-culture element, etc.

For example, if I were to name my (hypothetical) son Bruce, or Gordon, or Marcus (a name I pick for purely historical reasons, not because of any videogame), or (if I wanted to stick close to my cultural and ethnic roots) Rodrigo (I name I drew from someone other than the obvious source), most people would probably say that the name sounds fine, but my family would know exactly why I choce a name like that.

It's the same thing if I were to have a daughter. I might choose a name like Pamela, or Isabella (once again, drawing inspiration not from the obvious!), or Nadia, or Lisa, or Selina.....

...OK, maybe that last one's a tad obvious....

Also, one free internet to whoever can guess my (hopefully) not-so-obvious inspirations!

If I have two daughters I WILL call them Claire and Serah

A son...I'd love to call Link (yes it IS a real name) though I'd love the name Miles too and I figure Miles Hurd sounds better than Link Hurd but that's just me

(oh if you don't know, Miles is Tails' real name...Claire is Lightning's)

My mum was planning to call me Zelda (after a french actress i know nothing about), but Dad overruled her and i got literally the most boring name; Most popular girl's name several years running, i'd so much rather be Zelda xD

I've never considered having kids, but i'd probably call them something really stupid, and i'd probably be marrying someone stupid enough to let me. I always liked Altair, but before the game, it's a star in the constellation Aquila...
Lyra and Leia are pretty reasonable for girls, but they're not game names either...

My aim in life is to have a black rat called Falcor and a white rat called Arcturus, that's the only thing i've considered naming xD
