He spends $5k a year JUST on the subscription. Never mind the money it costs for the equipment, electricity and other assorted costs.

For that sort of money surely, surely he could think of something better to do with his time.

Theres nothing wrong with WOW, if you like that sort of thing, for the amount it costs is reasonable. The amount he is spending, irregardless of how much he makes, Is just not.
Noooooo, certainly not like widescreen hyper plasma lcd televisions, top of the range vehicles, the finest foods, -those- are the things worth spending +5000k on right?

Well TV and fine cars last longer than a year. And well food is kinda neccesary. Don't get me wrong, i'm not attacking WOW. Its just this guy has taken that hobby WAY overboard.

My question is: does this guy have a job? or better yet how does he earn a living? 'cause that IS an expensive hobby, where does he get the money for that?

I think that's pretty damn cool what he did... say what you want about it, but what really cool things have you done lately?

I would like to know more how he can really play that many characters at once. Even for standard tank and spank bosses that would be hard, but for a battleground premade or a boss like Shade of Aran in Kara-- I'd really like to see videos of his work.

The 10 million or whatever people playing World of Warcraft are all wasting time and devoting themselves toward goals with nothing to show for it once the computer is turned off. Well he has a lot to show for it. And there is something to be said for wasting time and money and elevating it to an art form.
There's nothing cool in wasting thousands of dollars a year to play one game.

He had to buy 11 PCs with monitors, pay for the electricity bill for them, 36 subscriptions, retail boxes... And waste hundreds upon hundreds of hours to train every one of those accounts.

Oh, and abandon social life.

Not on you, no, because you need to grow up and realise the world doesn't stop with what you think is acceptable. Unless... you're a secret spokesman for the New World Order. In that case I'm sorry, and do I have to have this chip in my arm, sir?

I will defend this guy as much as I like, because it's more humane than mindlessly associating the picture with: poor hygiene, poor social skills, no life etc.

If we saw a picture of a plush home recording studio, and perhaps knowing the owner was Black, you bet I'd tell every one that said he was a criminal to afford it they were talking shit.

That's essentially what is going on and it makes people look stupid.

You lose credibility for a couple of things:

A) If you can't compose proper sentences, with correct punctuation and capitalization, I can't take you seriously. People that are too lazy or ignorant to realise that sentences need full stops (periods), capital letters at the start of sentences and for "i" when referring to yourself... lets just say if you're going to argue, at least do it by attempting to approach the level of thought I put into mine. Otherwise I'll just think you lack the ability to express yourself in an intelligent fashion. How is *that* going to work?

B) You judge the guy with the monster rig based on your own past weakness for the game. If you played too much that is entirely your fault and responsibility. I play for 3-4 hours in the week and around 5-6 hours at weekends. Happy times.

C) The guy with the rig is doing things in WoW faster than people playing 1 account at a time. He doesn't have to wait around for groups, he levels faster and if that and his disposable income are anything to go by, has a better job and more free time outside of gaming than a lot of people.

If you wouldn't do what he does, that is totally understandable due to you not having the financial resources to do it, and your previous inability to control your gaming will influence this. That is your right to express that but do NOT presume that what is right for you, is right for everyone.

Anyway, I probably lost you after two lines, so keep those blinkers on.
don't hurt yourself, if the most you can say is "you can't compose proper sentences" and that "he has a better job a more free time" then your arguement is worth next too nothing
(although i admit that point 2 is correct)

your theory of better job is likely true, but more free time outside of gaming? this is a man who is playing with himself so he doesn't have to deal with other players, his social life is (in theory) not in good shape

also, i was not presuming a damn thing, i critisized him for playing too much, i didn't tell him that he had to stop, nor do i intend to, i just believe that he took it too far

now, back into your hole, grammar nazi

It all comes down to everyone seeming to think they know how best to spend money. Maybe he doesn't like driving fast cars, eating caviar and snorting coke off of prostitutes. He can damn well spend his money how he likes. And if he's suck a geek, why are his characters only LVL 61? Which very clearly implies he doesn't play too much if in 5 years he's only that far.... He's made a goal in life, and he's clearly stated that there is a reason for it. He's already getting publicity for it. WOW has a fan base of 10 million. He'll be as famous as Leroy Jenkins if he Raids Stormwind alone. A Legend. I only played Wow for a few short months and got bored of it, i actually respect people who carry it on. With all these z-list celebrities getting their 5 mins of fame, maybe he wanted that amoungst our community of gamers and geeks and nerds. Cause if he succeeds he'll be up there with the greats in my eyes. He's invented his own play style, just like nintendo spend so much money developing the Wii-mote. A pioneer you might say. So Yeah, my 2 Cents.

I'm sad now. This is quite depressing. All that money wasted that could have gone to porn and chips.

Wait a sec, how does he even play 36 characters at once? Or is he just really fast at switching keyboards?
You can use bots to imitate moves.

£5 all of those characters are Shamans.

I've been into the operations center of the headquarters of a major command of the United States Air Force, and nothing I've seen even comes close comparing to THAT.

Impressive yes, but sad at the same time. I think this guy would implode if he saw a real life woman or if he became involved in any kind of outdoor activity.

Is this him?

No, silly. He only has one computer!
