I object to the color scheme, but that's about it. That's actually kind of interesting.

It's not full-on catgirl without a responsive tail, though. Keep working on it!

it's called porn. And there is a lot of it.

What's so strange about that? Japan has some strange things, these are actually kind of adorable.
I think it's a defense mechanism. People jump on the absurd bandwagon hate long before they see any actually strange stuff.

I'm not sure whether that's more facepalm-worthy, or the fact that people think anime animal people and furry animal people are somehow the same.

Only in Japan. Only in Japan. Seriously, you tell me someone has made these and don't tell me where they were made, I'm sure 99% of the internet would guess Japan.

lol

You know, that's actually pretty cool. And also, come on, Japan!
You get an earthquake and respond by making "kiss simulators" and this "necomimi"? You should be working on either fixing your country or making video games!

EDIT: wow that sounded a lot better in my head....

Those are pretty cute. I might get a pair one day, provided they're not hideously expensive.

I just find their priorities with such technology to be a little funny. Though, if it really catches on in Japan and you see like half the population of Shibuya on any given day sporting those things, it will be a lot funny.

Ignoring the fact that I've never understood the appeal of girls with cat ears, the technology behind them sounds really cool. It's like the mood ring has been updated for the 21st century.
See, what they avoid in their ads is how difficult it would be to actually control them manually (using your brain).

Using biofeedback to deliberately alter your brainwaves (and wiring up your head to translate the information into usable analog signals or digital coefficients) is something that's been around since the 60's. It's seen application ranging from "human modulation" in electronic music performance to "hands free" watercraft driving.

But the reason it's never really caught on is because it's fucking HARD. Most trainees quit early on in learning the biofeedback techniques because of the understandably frustrating initial lack of results. Typically one is wired up and situated in front of a monitor display 4 to 8 dots, on slide rules. The goal is to concentrate until you can move the first one and later, all of them. Problem being this takes WEEKS.

Anyways, there is potential there, but even practiced users results usually seem a bit... gimmicky?

Curing cancer isn't profitable. Robot cat ears that read your mind are.

Quick, Japan, what's the first thing that pops into your head when you think "mind controlled"?
Furries.

Actually, this has a huge potential. Everything from cool clothing to mechanical... dicks. Yeah yeah, laugh all you want, but I'm sure that whoever has erectile dysfunction will find a prosthetic... limb... that reacts to his thoughts less funny.
