Writer Tom Clancy has died at 66

That's a shame. I hope his last days were good ones.

While I weren't a fan, I can always respect a craftsman working hard. He got people to read, and that is what matters.

Always thought his books were terrible, still...sucks to hear he's gone at such an early age.

Gotta ask: What's bad about them? I haven't read them. Not a thriller fan.

They are very, very... Um, 'Murica. Not exactly Modern Warfare levels, but they do give you the impression that the book is about to leap out of your lap and salute the old glory every odd page. To its credit, it never gets downright tasteless, unlike some authors who copied him.

The stories are rather exciting, though. If you can put yourself in the right mindset, it's not a bad read at all.

Well, I was mostly thinking of Modern Warfare 2, where I suddenly found myself defending fucking Burger King from rampaging bolsheviks. By the time of "Whisky Hotel" (Yes, yes, very clever, game), it felt like I'd entered one of Glenn Beck's fever dreams.
Although true, the SAS got quite a bit of exposure in those games, but it felt less like "Go, Britain!" and more like people suffering from the same condition as Soldier in TF2 stalking around the Russian countryside getting into firefights.
