The video for Path was interesting. I've never seen cellos qualify as anything like Metal. Hmm, I may have gotten the instruments wrong...

Anyway, let's see if I can manage to offer up anything you might enjoy:
[a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-VgW4Knb5s"]Here's[/a] [a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naPvZ3pggkI"]some[/a] Blue Man Group. That's all I could find that had quality to it, but if that interests you at all, try looking at some of their other things as well.

And may I recommend some David Bowie? With [a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYEOlxcirX0"]as[/a] [a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O59CD81UAzw"]much[/a] [a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueUOTImKp0k&feature=fvw"]as[/a] [a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muMcWMKPEWQ&feature=related"]his[/a] [a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSnXjE66tvQ&feature=related"]sound[/a] [a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnTrbvg4wNg"]changes[/a] with any given album or song, there's probably something to interest almost everyone.

I'm not sure if I'm really on the right track with any of the examples.

Gore Beyond Necropsy, because everyone should listen to Gore Beyond Necropsy.
If the ultra-commercial Sigur Ros is too "different" for the OP, he ain't gonna be into GBN. :D

I really don't know what to recommend the OP now. He doesn't want to hear the same old stuff, but he doesn't want anything all that different either...? I think the OP needs to broaden his taste a little.

You could always try Foo Fighters. But, judging by the one song on your list I've heard before, you might like the Bravery. I'm not really sure how they're anything like Muse, but I seem to think they have a somewhat similar sound. I would give you a sample, but universal music group seems to be blocking me from embedding or linking. Try "An Honest Mistake," though.

So you like groovy progressive beats that aren't too far out there...
You could try The Tea Party or Orphaned Land:

Or Rammstein, Static-X and Mushroomhead, if you're into that side of it.

To everyone in this post who suggested Dream Theater, I have done (a lot of - why are all their songs so long?) listening to assorted Octavarium tracks, and the result is... I found myself trying to convince myself that I liked it, and I have found that in any situation, that isn't a good sign. I think the problem may be that I don't like the way that James LaBrie sings in all of their songs. While I don't mean that the singing is bad, I simply don't enjoy listening to his voice very much. Otherwise their songs are excellent.
Octavarium was not DT's best album, at least not IMO.
Try listening to their new album, "Black Clouds and Silver Linings" or one of their best, "Metropolis Prt 1". Both are great albums.

The reason I suggested Octavarium is because it's basically a Muse album. But failing that Black Clouds and Metropolis Part 2 are my favourite of their albums.

... I can't do "conservative music"... My suggestion to the OP is that he go do something fantastical, so he can feel worthly to listen to something more adventurous than "muse".
[small] Also, mad props for knowing about GBN :D[/small]
I have the "Rectal Anarchy" CD they did with Merzbow at home.

I don't think there's much hope for the OP's music taste if he likes Muse but can't handle Sigur Ros. I'll just have to go to extreme measures and make some more insane recommendations before he disappears forever into a sea of average-rock:

I'd like to thank everyone who has made the effort to post your recommendations. Right now I'm sifting through the masses of recommendations with an incredibly slow connection caused by streaming too many of the linked videos at once.

I suspect that Sigur Ros is one of the videos that "can't be viewed in my country" on youtube, but I'll try again due to the outcry raised by certain posters in this thread.

I'll have to sit down and do a hardcore listening session tomorrow and return with some opinions later.

EDIT: I'm back! But... no luck with the music thing. I'll just stay with the music I listed at the top of this page and things like that. Farewell!!
