WTF PS3?!

So I was playing inFamous on my PS3, I was gleefully running around and killing everyone with my evil lightning when all of a sudden GAME FREEZE.
I couldn't pull up my PS3's menu or anything.
I was in the middle of a mission and Reapers were shooting and me, and I ran up to a buildin to begin to climb it... I noticed that Cole had developed cement feet.

I pushed buttons, nothing happened, I tried to pull up the PS3 menu by hitting the middle button, NOTHING.
It happened more than once too..

Has anyone besides me had problems like this?

Best guess: the firmware update 3.0 crashed your 'station. Happened to me on one of the older ones. I think I read other reports of freezing for 3.0...

EDIT: If this is what happened, i think you can get a new one for free, if your warranty was the same as mine. I don't know if it is fixable or not.

Not in this game but HL2 Ep1 froze on me today. I quick save like none other so I was good, but it's frustrating.

I know I know....shame on me for not getting the Orange Box on PC

its the PS3, its slightly better in graphics and ive never had trouble with mine so im sorry that i cant help, google it and try and find something similar on a site about fixing game systems and computers

Best guess: the firmware update 3.0 crashed your 'station. Happened to me on one of the older ones. I think I read other reports of freezing for 3.0...

EDIT: If this is what happened, i think you can get a new one for free, if your warranty was the same as mine. I don't know if it is fixable or not.

I did do the new update and my system was acting a bit squirrely. My PS3 is a brand new slim (b/c I like shiny new things) and I don't think it should be doing that. I might have to go back to the good ol fatty.

I have had issues with games like Fallout 3, GTA IV, The Orange Box, Brothers in Arms, and NHL 2K9. I have never had any issues with any of my first party games although I have yet to get inFamous so who knows.

Edit: Also i have the 2nd Gen 80GB PS3 the one that is nearly identicle to the 60GB with Semi-BC.

mine have been fine, i haven't noticed anything really different with the new update, then again i haven't played infamous since the update, i should cause i need to finish it

ever since 3.00 has come into the mix I have gotten a few system lock ups. But nothing worrying, just restart the sstem and everything is fine. no need to freak out, remember how much PS1 games used to freeze?

I've had it freeze twice so far with the 3.0 update. But I was playing Oblivion. It was auto-saved tho so no worries. Is it permanently stuck or just need to be restarted?

I've played AA, Disgaea 3, and Blazblue since the latest update and have had 0 issues.

But people have been complaining about the problem on the interwebz.

The PS3 has the equivilent of a "RROD" Basicly freezes and crashes, They are common on the PS3 Slim. Still won't stop me from getting one.

I've noticed certain games freeze on my PS3. Haze (five times), Infamous (once), Fear didn't freeze but for some reason my console restarted when it was loading a level, and I think GTAIV did one also. But no other games I have did it to me.

Infamous as far as I know hasn't been patched once and that may have something to do with the freezing.

I don't know if it's the slim or the 3.0 firmware. I believe it's the firmware but I read Sony is looking into it. Hope they hurry it up!

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Have you tried some other games? I sent Infamous back before 3.0 so it may just be that. Right now I'm playing Motorstorm 2 and have had no problems.

I'm running on a Slim.

No errors at all so far. Unless you count "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SPENT MONEY!" from relatives as an error.

This got me thinking. If your Playstation 3 is made by Sony and your TV is made by Sony...

Is this like a mechanized incestuous relataionship? I've had the same Sony TV for both my PS1 and PS2 and my friend's PS3 was once hooked up to it as well, what's going on???
