So I was playing inFamous on my PS3, I was gleefully running around and killing everyone with my evil lightning when all of a sudden GAME FREEZE.
I couldn't pull up my PS3's menu or anything.
I was in the middle of a mission and Reapers were shooting and me, and I ran up to a buildin to begin to climb it... I noticed that Cole had developed cement feet.

I pushed buttons, nothing happened, I tried to pull up the PS3 menu by hitting the middle button, NOTHING.
It happened more than once too..

Has anyone besides me had problems like this?
Check to see if one of the triggers (L1/2 R1/2) aren't stuck in.

This has happened to me more than a few times. Fallout 3 would freeze on me at least once a day, and i've had LittleBigPlanet, Bioshock, and some other titles freeze on me, and it happened before the firmware update. I just flip off the power, doesn't really bother me. Except when I haven't saved in a while, that freaking sucks.

Mine has frozen at various times in various games e.g. Assasins Creed (many many times), Infamous, GTA IV a couple of times and Battlefield 1943 a few times (probably quite a few others that I forgot). I think it's quite normal and is possibly to do with some overheating. My 360 has also done the same in Mass Effect and Saints Row 2 though and I know that that is down to overhearing.

Have you checked your disc for scratches?

I am using a 60GB UK launch PS3 if that helps.

Mines frozen on Fallout a few times but that was ages ago on old firmware, no issues with 3.0 for me but I've heard quite a lot of people have. Interestinlgy it stopped freezing when I put it flat rather than had it standing up... Sounds stupid i know but vacuum the vents and keep the air flow good as well can cause issues, PS3 heats up like a tart's inner thighs

Best guess: the firmware update 3.0 crashed your 'station. Happened to me on one of the older ones. I think I read other reports of freezing for 3.0...

EDIT: If this is what happened, i think you can get a new one for free, if your warranty was the same as mine. I don't know if it is fixable or not.
I did do the new update and my system was acting a bit squirrely. My PS3 is a brand new slim (b/c I like shiny new things) and I don't think it should be doing that. I might have to go back to the good ol fatty.
I have a first gen 60gb PS3 with firmware 3.0, and I haven't had any problems yet. In fact, no game freezes either. *knock on wood*

Happened to me In Silent Hill: Homecoming. Right after I killed Scarlet. Froze before I could save. Haven't played SH since.

Happens to me a lot during long arse gaming sessions, normally random on Fallout 3 and Oblivion, has declined since I brought a extractor fan though.

The PS3 has the equivilent of a "RROD" Basicly freezes and crashes, They are common on the PS3 Slim. Still won't stop me from getting one.
Sony have effed something fundamental up in the 3.0 firmware. It's not a mechanical fault so Sony should be able to fix it fairly quickly, having said that they're Sony, they've barely admitted to a 'minor issue' with it so far, which probably means catastrophically bad programming somewhere.

I was wondering if the spam of enemies and all the particle effects from my lightning were causing the PS3 to get confused and hurt itself in it's confusion. (lame pokemon reference)
But I guess that even my beautiful PS3 can catch and cold and too much stuff going on at once on the screen will make it freeze up.

Didn't get the Pokemon reference. :b

But, yeah. Not even the beautiful almost perfect PS3 is flawless...
