So it turns out that Firaxis has finally revealed the release date for X-Com: Enemy Unknown's first expansion, and it's... well, today.

Just letting fellow fans know.

I love the game, but this DLC pack is everything I *don't* want in DLC. 3 static missions, that are always the same? That can't be turned off? A static "hero" character that I can't rename?

What bone head thought this up?

Yeah not getting this one.

What XCOM should get for DLC is more varied, localized maps/tilesets for use in random missions, such as tundras and deserts and ufos crashlanding into buildings.

A real expension should have stuff like more strategic and basebuilding options. Another cool feature would be underwater levels andthe inclusion of advanced diving suits, so UFOs can actually crash into the ocean and be recovered.

Seems pretty overpriced, $10.65 for just 3 new missions and some customization extras? No thanks.

So... XCOM: Terror From the Deep? I'd rather they just make that into a whole new game than what will likely be a disappointingly tiny DLC pack.

What the fish said.

Also while I love customization I do not need more helmets! Now if they offered a Stetson cowboy hat for my US sniper... well then I might be more willing to throw my money at them. :)

Many DLC's have been pretty much their own game, just look at the DLC for red dead or GTA.

OT: Yeah not impressed with this one, steep price for such a small addition :/

Some more maps, aliens and guns to add to the singleplayer/ multiplayer would have been good enough.

I understand that... it's just that they tend to be the exception these days, rather than the rule.

I loved Terror From the Deep, possibly even more than the original XCOM, and I really wouldn't want it being turned into a three-mission sidequest. I'd want it to be one of the exceptions to the rule... and judging by today's DLC release, I find myself skeptical of that possibility.

It makes me a sad panda.

True and this certainly doesnt bode well :/

But the game has done well, hopefully it won't just become a load of costume packs. And since its 2K (great DLC campaigns for bioshock 2 and mafia 2) there is still hope. I know they only publish but still :D

Well, when discussing DLC, the developer said that he wasn't a fan of "Terror from the Deep" and that it would not be something they'd be considering for future content.

It might've been purposeful misdirection, but he's not alone in disliking TftD...

A voice pack, with regional accents. I want my Russians sounding like Russians and my French sounding like French.

More faces/hair for troops, you get into a lot of duplication very quickly.

A map pack, containing dozens of new engagement sites in a variety of new settings.

A new alien type or three, new tech, and an extended campaign.

That's what we want in DLC, Firaxis. If you build it, they will come.

And by "come", I mean "come to buy it".

And by "them" I mean me.

I saw a trailer for it and it didn't look that special just a handfull of new skins a few council missions some shadey men in black type story carachter and some special hero soldire. Also I have seen something like 5 different price tags for it ranging from 3.50-10.99.

Yeah, I know. And frankly, people's dislike toward it is totally justified judging by the most common complaint toward it. The game's difficulty curve was far more unfair than XCOM's, and XCOM's already wasn't particularly fair from the get-go.

I want a map maker, so I can just set up ridiculous challenges and see how well I do. Doesn't have to be too deep. Have a template location and different building types I can set up. Though I would love to be able to set up a mega map with different levels just to see how many floors I could clear out. Have the option of me placing the enemies myself (for challenging my friends) or choosing a set number of them to be randomly distributed (for challenging myself so I don't know where they are).

But Slingshot seems rather mundane. Honestly, unless they add a map maker or a major expansion, I'm not likely to buy DLC. I'm very happy with the game as it is.

I'm only seeing it for $6.99. Decently priced imo as long as it is actually cool, but who knows....
$10.65 is the Australian price at least.

This is the exact opposite of what I want in my Xcom DLC. Nobody likes the talky bits or the named characters. Nobody cares about this triad agent guy.

ive got the strategy guide kicking around in a cupboard and they outright said they made TFTD far more difficult than x-com purely because of complaints from players that x-com was too easy
D'you think that that was because of the 'reset difficulty to easy' bug?
