As a PS3 owner, it looks like I'm going to have to find an alternative and probably less accurate way of ensuring the game's quality, because I'm not going to spend that much money on a game unless I'm at least 95% sure it's going to be good. So, nice job Crytek; you may have just cost yourself a sale.

Christ, Crytek, do I need to donate my middle fingers to your viewing gallery as well?!

There's NO POSSIBLE WAY I'm buying Crysis 2 unless I have a demo to ensure it FREAKING WORKS.

I swear, if Microsoft bought exclusive rights to a demo (seems likely), then I'm finding the jackass who said that "Microsoft supports PC gaming" and STRANGLING HIM IN HIS SLEEP.

With a Garrot wire MADE OF FIRE.
I guess that there is only one thing to do, send an email asking for a demo (solution from Extra Credits) but since it wont change a thing (at least for this game, since its kind of late for them to make a new demo) you could pirate the game, try it, then unnisntall and buy it. Yeah, its illegal but the PC guys really have a point on this one. They have no idea if the game is playable or not.
I refuse to pirate on principal. I'm giving Crytek time to release a single-player demo for us, but if it doesn't happen then they're getting a heated letter and no money from me.

This really pisses me off considering how awesome the Crysis 1 demo was. Provided an hour or two of gameplay, set up the story, characters, enemies, ect. and provided plenty of situations that stressed your hardware.

And with they're constant promises of "supporting PC's" and all that, this is just ridiculous.
They're basically saying "fuck you" to PC players. And PS3 players.

I really hate system-exclusive demo's.

Hm. I don't get the point of exclusive demo. It's basically exclusive advertisement. Exclusive games and DLC? Sure. But what's the point of demo? Are they expecting game to sell the least of 360?

"Crysis 2 offers a fresh, new take on multiplayer," said Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli,
I call Bullshit.

despite the fact that the two game modes in the demo are neither fresh nor new.
And that's precisely why. A team-based shooter, wearing a power suit with abilities, in a moderately open environment. That's about as fresh and new as month-old unwashed dirty laundry. Fresh and new was the AC: Brotherhood multiplayer, wherein you didn't just run around killing everyone, but had to be methodical, calculating, observant, adept, and adaptive, not just skilled in the ways of the rocket-jump, circle strafe, and quick-reload. What's more, the modes themselves are old hat--CTF and Deathmatch? Really? Those are a "fresh, new take on multiplayer"? No, Mr Yerli, they are not.

And why is this on the 360? Yeah, the XBL community loves shooters, but, last I heard, so do the PC community. And, with the necessity of PC requirements, it seems like a demo on the PC would be a better idea, to know if system specs are good enough. A single working build for the 360 and the PS3 would ensure all of them worked, but the PC is whole different beast.

Well if Crysis is going to go to consoles they have to compete with the rampant COD and Halo games . The multiplayer is a big thing for a lot of 360 owners so they probably figure that they have to prove themselves to a new target audience. They probably figure their reputation will carry them on the PC.

Chances are Microsoft is twisting their arm for exclusivity on this one. Obviously PC players, myself included, are upset about the blatant disrespect on Crytek on this one. It isn't like this is their second or third game on the console after they have proven themselves on the platform already.

No, this is their first major push into console gaming and they are starting off on the wrong foot by alienating their established fan base. Not only that, it smacks of hypocrisy on Microsoft's part after they once again claimed to be pledging efforts to strengthen the PC as a platform for the 300 billionth time.

You guys at least have the rent to try option right? Wish PC owners had that option.

I'm so pissed at Crytek.

I don't know how many of you here are active in the Crysis community, but there have been tons and tons of worry at MyCrysis and Crymod in the past about how the consoles will affect the game. Every time they've said things like "there will be no favoritism" and "we still consider the PC players to be the most dedicated" etc, etc.

I guess it was all lies and bullshit, because it looks like they just gave us the finger.
I'm trying my best to not be a PC-douche when it comes to Crysis 2 but when they're tossing out everything from the original and simplifying the only thing that's left, the nanosuit, it's hard to sense any hype at all and instead focus the anger on the target audience i.e. the CoD playing console guy. I absolutely adore the original but this doesn't feel like Crysis any more.

Off topic: If you're a regular at the Crysis community, have they announced any confirmation on mod-tools? That's like the only thing that will save Crytek a customer at this point.
To my knowledge no one has flat out said it will include mod tools, but the scuttlebutt around the community is that it will have them. However, they might not be available at launch.

Nathan Camarillo even said:
"We have a history of supporting our modding community. We take this very seriously. We have done it in the past. I wouldn't be too worried about as supporting it somehow in the future."

While this is hardly definitive, the mod scene for crysis is fairly huge and I would be wholly surprised (and disappointed) if they didn't release any tools.

"The Nanosuit gives gamers a sense of power they have yet to experience in any other shooter and having New York City as a backdrop will present a different type of playground with even more possibilities."

....

For better or worse, demos these days seem more about cranking up the publicity machine than giving gamers a chance to sample the goods and decide whether or not they're actually interested.
Seriously, Andy? [http://www.titaniumteddybear.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/emperor-let-the-butthurt.png] That's a little childish, don't you think? Especially considering he was probably talking about the suits?

If Crytek was more interested in the general hype machine than in actually giving gamers a test drive, they wouldn't have bothered releasing the demo. They'd have just spliced together a trailer or something for all the platforms. Demos are difficult/risky to put together, so developers don't just throw them together at the drop of a hat. To be honest, the early demo release for consoles makes sense: on the consoles, they've got to break into a new market, as well as start a brand-new hype train so console players can get interested.

As far as PC gaming goes, they've already got the hype train for the platform in place, so they can afford to delay releasing a demo for a month or so to polish it up. The game's being released in March, so it's premature to cry abandonment when it could merely be a marketing strategy to clinch solid console sales.

This reminds me of Metallica, circa 1996, where they said "FUCK YOU" to their loyal fans and backstabbed them by catering to one specific audience; where the money is. Crysis, or rather Crytek itself, wouldn't be where it is today without its PC gaming followers. This is just a giant red, black, and yellow dick being shoved in their face, while shouting "BLAH BLAH XBOX BLAH BLAH BLAH HALO BLAH CALL OF DUTY BLAH BLAH MONEY". No. Fuck YOU, Crytek. You're a game company. Not Donald Trump.

Uh, yes, seriously, and I suppose you're welcome to consider a demo built on team deathmatch and control point maps to be fresh and new but that doesn't mean that there's any truth to it - or that it's "childish" to point it out. I'd say it's more like stating the obvious. Even if he was talking about the suit, it comes across as silly. You're doing the same thing with a different gimmick.

If Crytek was interested in giving players a test drive, as opposed to whoring out the hype, they'd release a cross-platform demo. PC gamers have a legitimate interest in taking Crysis for a spin because it is notoriously demanding at high visual settings, and nothing gets the PS3 fanboys worked up quicker than arguing with Team 360 that their games look better - but will Crysis? There is no practical reason for releasing a 360-exclusive demo except as a cheap publicity ploy - and because Microsoft threw a few truckloads of dollars at you, of course. And that's fine, I don't begrudge anyone their publicity, but console exclusivity for demos is a very cheap approach that simply does not serve gamers.

Which wouldn't make it new, if the "gimmick" is done well enough? I mean, these people don't seem to think it's old. [http://www.incrysis.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=924&Itemid=1]

I don't deny that Microsoft probably paid Crytek through the nose for the early demo exclusivity, but here's the rub: how long is said exclusivity going to last? There's almost a whole two months for Crytek to release potential PC/PS3 demos before the game is released.

I'm choosing to wait and see what's going on before accusing Crytek of foul play.
