Guys, can you help me out here?

I got my first Xbox 360 pack in October and, despite its faults, I love my console. However, my games library is limited and as I haven't been keeping up with releases all too well since the 360 launch (I was a portable gamer until just recently) I have a very limited idea of what is out there. I've been trawling the internet and the various Xbox magazines released in the UK looking for those must play!!11 games, but all of the magazines and websites point at the big-budget FPS and RPGs that common gaming opinion on-line hold as "expensive, but really not that great". Plus I'm broke at the moment and have no interest in shelling out £40 for XBL, so I'm strictly limited to Single Player games and there doesn't seem to be too many of those about any more. (Or they have a stupidly short Single Player campaign and then rely solely on online play. =/).

So far I've played Mass Effect (working my way through ME2), Bioshock, Alan Wake, Quake IV, Unreal Tournament III and Transformers: War for Cybertron. (And I have Halo 3 and Fable II on my shelf ready to go.) I'll play pretty much anything that has science fiction, guns, aliens, a good plot and/or isn't a game made 4 gurls lolz. And I don't care about graphics or anything so long as the game-play is something I'll want to come back to again and again.

tl;dr What game do you think is that must-have title for the 360, regardless of what critics have said about it or how obscure it is? Inquiring minds wish to know about something other than CoD, Bioware (although they are EPIC) and the goddamn Orange Box. C:

Viva Pinata. Get it. It's only going to set you back about £5 nowadays, considering it was a launch title way back when. Even if you don't enjoy it, you've not wasted too much money on it.

Here's a few cheep games that I would recommend for those on a budget:

Prey. It's a pretty interesting little sci-fi game. It's fairly old now, so you can find it for about $5 at a used games store.

Escape from Butcher's Bay/Assault on Dark Athena. These are 2 games based on the Chronicles of Riddick franchise. They're stealth based shooters, with a focus on melee combat. Assault on Dark Athena for the xbox 360 comes with a remastered version of Escape from Butcher's Bay, so you can get both games together for about $15-$20.

The Last Remnant is my favorite RPG on the Xbox360.
It has an awesome battle system, great music and nice visuals.

There's a lot to see on the Xbox Live Arcade. Especially since most (if not all) have trials that you can test before buying the game. About 80% of my gaming library is XLBA titles and Games on Demand stuff.

SAINTS ROW 2. Thou must. I played the half-assed version on the PC and still loved it and although it's plot isn't much, the gameplay and craziness are AWESOME.

(This game is so good I used all caps in words/sentences. THREE TIMES.)

Fallout 3 and/or Oblivion come to mind.

Arkham Asylum isn't very long, but has a lot of replay value, and is absolutely incredible.

I second anyone who has mentioned Bioshock (both 1 and 2) and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Also, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

If you look action/adventure games, you might like Devil May Cry 4 or Bayonetta.

Other rpgs include The Lost Odyssey or Final Fantasy 13, though with a bit of searching there's plenty of other available.

Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood. Dead Space. Dead Rising. GTA 4.

Hope that helps!

I would recomend that you go out and buy Mass Effect 1 and 2. Its really good games, and you should try them out. Also, I would suggest Red Dead Redemption. Also a good game.

EDIT: Just read you are already playing Mass Effect, so scratch that... and good boy

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. It's a fun racing/platform game and it was the very first game I bought when I had a 360. I bought a used copy for $8 and the disc itself was in mint state, like if it was still new, like if someone opened the box and never used the disc.

If you want a much more epic experience, you can't go wrong with the Mass Effect series, especially 2.

If I were to recommend an extremely long singleplayer game it would probably be something from bethesda, namely Oblivion, Fallout 3 or NV because the games are made to be really long. And another one would be borderlands because its just cool like that and its still fun on your own (try leveling up all 4 characters separately). Plus Assassins creed (1,2 and 3) were good and Red Dead Redemption were good as well. And maybe GTA4 if that floats yer boat.
