Also thanks for the recommendations everyone, definitely some titles there I haven't heard of. I do have a copy of Viva Pinata on the DS and I love it, so I'll definitely hunt down the 360 version. =]

If you are into horror games i can also recommend Bioshock, the first one. its an awesome game

Viva Pinata. Get it. It's only going to set you back about £5 nowadays, considering it was a launch title way back when. Even if you don't enjoy it, you've not wasted too much money on it.

That game is such a guilty pleasure of mine. Just like the Harvest Moon series.

OT: Just look at any high scoring games. There where not a lot of hidden gems on the system, at least not from my point of view. There where a few good games that didn't sell well as there always is, but those games still seemed to get critical praise.

fallout, oblivion, and katamari all have a lot of game time plus fallout and oblivion have dlc that can be bought to extend play time even more

first assassin's creed is still alot of fun, and I think it is fairly cheap now seeing as #3 is on the shelves.

Gears of War (1 and 2) and also the new medal of honour has, in my opinion, got an amazing campaign.

Hmm.. since you're going for only single player I'd recommend Oblivion: Game of the year addition, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Assassin's creed, maybe Borderlands GotY, Either Dead Rising, A personal favorite of mine is The Darkness.

However, unless you're atleast connected to Xbox Live, you may find both Fallouts and Oblivion rather... glitchy...

There are a lot of good ones out there, though not everyone has the same taste in games.

I'd recommend the following (Single & Multiplayer recommendations are seperate in case you do get it):

Gears 1&2

Modern Warfare 1(Single Player). If you're into multiplayer, get the second as well. Black Ops is alright, but liked MW 2's muiltiplayer better.

Assassins Creed 1&2. Assassins Creed: Brotherhood has good multiplayer (I prefer the second's single player though, the environment was more beautiful)

Dragon Age Origins (I loved it personally). You should get the first then decide if you want the second as it's coming out real soon (the 8th in North America I believe)

Saints Row 2

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (It's a long game so I recommend trying it at least, as the next one is coming out at the end of the year-ish)

Fallout 3/New Vegas (liked 3 better myself)

Just Cause 2
