My first PS3 actually died (40g). I was shocked b/c I thought they were better put together. It wouldn't read discs of any kind. I'd lapsed on buying the replacement plan at the store, and sent it to Sony for in-warrenty repair, who did an excellent job, and got it back in about 2 weeks. I then sold it to a friend and bought the MGS4 bundle (and a replacement plan). He hasn't had a single issue out of it, or me out of my 80g.

My 360 died on me just recently, but I don't want to repair it because it takes too long and I live in Hawaii so it would take longer. So I decided to buy a new one since it has been discounted to $199.

I've only had one broken Xbox 360 and it took about a week for Microsoft to replace it. They also sent me a month of free Xbox Live for my trouble.

This thread has inspired me to get my damn PS2 fixed, more to the point my neighbour has had three Xbox 360s but his last one seems to be working fine now.

I just found a guy who says he can repair xbox's on Ebay. And I've had xbox since Christmas '07 and not had one problem and I've thrown it around (gently) in a large backpack, unpacked, repacked and generally lugged it around and it's still purrin' pretty.
My mate's PS3 however, died within a week.

I dislike this notion that PS3 are better simply because they don't "brick" as much. It's quite annoying.

But it's true. I'm a fan of the ps3 but the 360's absurd failure rates are a big problem.

Very, very true and I'm not denying that. But Microsoft have taken measures to make sure that the RRoD console is replaced free of charge. Which, even though the console should have lasted, is a redeeming quality.

I'm just sick of people trying to convince me my xbox will brick and I should spend an ridiculous amount of money on a console I don't like from experience.

As some people are apt to point out the ps3, especially recent bundles, isn't as expensive as it's made out to be. If you factor in auxillary functions such as PSN and it's capabilities as a BLU-ray player it works out as a better deal overall.

Really it depends on who I'm recomending a system to. I prefer playing on my 360, I prefer the controller and it isn't as prone to performance hicups (which yes, aren't caused by the PS3 itself but by lazy developers but that still factors into my decision) but overall, considering the stability and longevity of the system I'd recomend the ps3.

As for your 360 bricking. Sadly it will eventually, motherboard flexing and the x-clamp issue are chronic problems and they become more and more likely as time goes by. It's sad really that by the time the 360 becomes retro it'll be a none issue because finding a working 360 will be next to impossible.
