It's happened, ive got my first rrod after 2 years of having my xbox and believe me i was angry, just spend £50 on new games today grrr.
For any of you wise xbox hardware people the code for the error is 0020. If any of you know how to fix that, could you help?

If not then i guess the reason for this thread is to ask your opinion on whats the most reliable xbox system, i remember in a thread or somewhere i read that one of the new xbox systems is more reliable and has less chance of having rrods, is that the xbox 360 elite or the new xbox 360 60gb?

Please help a gamer in distress!

Unlucky with the rrod,
hopefully it never happens to mine.

I vaguely remember hearing from someone new 60GB's or Elites are redesigned or going to be to stop rrod, but I can't be sure.

Elite doesn't make a difference. A mate of mine got a 120gb Elite and his got the red ring months before mine. Mine got it 2 weeks ago -.-

EDIT: We got our xbox's at the same time.

I actually plugged my 360 right into the wall rather then a powerbar and it fixed it. Seriously. Now, it broke a few months later but it wasn't RROD then...it was some E74 error or something.

Try that.

Sorry to hear yours died.

The general rule with 360 hardware is the later it was made, the more reliable it is. However I am a big advocate of one of these [http://www.nyko.com/nyko/products/?i=71]. They're a little noisy, but well worth it.

I'll have to shop around for that... their store locator says Circuit City has them.

NO NO NO!! PLEASE don't get one! Oh man. BAD idea. There is a thread floating around about these, but I'll throw my two cents in again:

I used to work at an EB Games (or 'Gamestop' if you aren't in Canada) and we would have systems brought back with these 'coolers' MELTED on the back of them. They don't work. AND they void your warranty. Please, for the love of all things even resembling goodness, don't get one. Just don't.

I've had 4 rrod's. To me, that's 4 too many. I feel your pain.

Also, the Intercoolers that people mention: NOT WORTH IT.

Jesus on a cracker, should I even BOTHER getting a console, or just save that money to buy a new overpriced PC rig?

No no, the console is great. Just get the newer ones. Not some second hand, old generation console.

Although, a nice PC rig would also be nice...but then again, you can't REALLY game on Linux (You can a bit, thank you WINE) and I refuse to use windows.

But yeah...the console is great.

I bought my Elite last October and a couple months ago it rrod. After two months without my console they replaced it. Turned out UPS had lost it so it never made it to the repair centre! Hope this second one doesn't die too but I won't bet on it.

Good luck to you mate. The call staff aren't to bad so I'd get on the phone and get it repaired.

Dude, my 360 has been the stuff of legend, don't take Father2u's advice, especially if you're living in Australia, I have a 360 and my girlfriend has a PS3, gotta say, PS3, 2-10 minute loading time on average across most games... nowhere near enough grunt, sure, it can handle Blu-Ray movies, but beyond that, you're wasting your time. My 360 has been running for a year and has never had 3 red lights, I keep it well ventilated on a Sushi Mat in my Television Stand so it gets extra ventilation, it's in a room that is kept between 16 and 25 degrees Celcius and it's never had a problem... my advice, treat your 360 well, giving it all the room it needs to breathe and you won't have a problem.

Interesting, I've never had any problems with loading times with my PS3. Usually takes maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute, and definitely not 10(except maybe in MGS4 during the game installs).

And I'm not saying never get a 360, just wait until the RRoD problem is actually "fixed". I've had my 360 since launch, and I'm pretty sure the reason I haven't gotten the RRoD yet is because I don't have a case on it, so it has a LOT of ventilation.
