1. Just to clarify. Jet Grind Radio is awesome. Jet Set Radio Future sucked.

2. While the DC failed here (North America) miserably, it actually had a significantly longer life in Japan. And some were quite good too, although they may have been more enjoyable if i could have understood japanese.

That sorta kinda makes sense. Did anyone realize how similar the controllers were for the Dreamcast and Xbox? I was thinking Microsoft ripped off the design, but this kinda explains it.

The reason it never happened was actually due to the Dreamcast's online features, which Okawa insisted must still be available through the Xbox. Microsoft did not agree, and only wanted Xbox games to have internet capability.
DAMMIT MICRO$HAFT

The damn money Nazis running XBLA are the only thing I don't like about the Xbox! It's their fault that VALVe can't update TF2 on the 360 (MS demands that the updates packaged as priced content as if it were separate DLC). Also the reason 360 games aren't cross-compatible for network play with Windows-equivalent games. DAMMIT! The 360 would be SOOOO much cooler if I could play with friends who had the PC version of games!

Unfortunately Gates would have always demanded his own spin on things. It's what he does, but there were some killer games on the Dreamcast, and I'm sad to see it go.

I feel a pic coming on though

Well, this shows Bill Gates was not only greedy, but stupid as well.

Why? Well, he should've just let Sega games have online. They'd still be on the XBOX, and those would make him millions, maybe billions. It was pride that lost him the chance to make the XBOX nmuch better. but he's so rich, he didn't care. :/

Oh well. Can't change what could've been.
Bill Gates has built a multi-billion dollar company that's still going strong. You don't accomplish that by being stupid.

The DC was a great platform but at best it had a niche audience. I think that getting Sega on board with them exclusively might have strengthened Microsoft's platform, yes, but they -did- get a lot of Sega exclusives that weren't big sellers. (Jet Set Radio, anyone?) And as another poster pointed out, if they had split their online user base that would have only harmed them by this point in the game. Xbox Live is one of the defining features of the console and it wouldn't have achieved that status had their execution been less-than-perfect.

Sega still makes some good games. Some damn good games, even. But are all of them critical successes? And of the ones that are, are they all financial successes? Fun=/=sales and gaming is a business. As much as I wish developers would churn out niche titles that equate to my wet dreams, they can't ignore the bottom line.

Sega is lucky to be around at all after the flubs they made in the 90s. In all honesty, if I were in Bill Gates' shoes, I probably would have made the same decision.

This is sort of old news, actually.

But since we're on this subject: Does anyone remember Bleem?

Huh, that's pretty cool. I guess I can't blame Mr. Gates for wanting online play to be exclusive, but I think that letting them have their way would have been better in the long run. Microsoft would have had exclusive rights to Sega games.
And today we see Sonic the Hodgehog, shooting his way through thousands of Zombie like aliens who hope to destroy the planet to save their own using the Master and Chaos emeralds, in SUPER HIGH DEFINITION GRAPHICS.

Lets face it, Sega has been making piss-poor decisions since the 32x, their only redeming act was making the dreamcast, but then started making stupid decisions again by abandoning it in favor of lame Sonic games and ruining the Total War series
Okawa died shortly after Sonic Adventures and was probably barely alive during the production of SA 2 Battle, which were really the last few good SEGA games to be released - or at least Sonic games - read between the lines.

And they've been living in nostalgia ever since under new management.

Everyone used to call me paranoid when I pointed that out.

Big love to the Dreamcast, I wish they'd hurray up and bring out Choo Choo Rocket and Power Stone for XBLA. How good would that be!

I should have got a Dreamcast right when it was winding down. Why? I remember seeing them trying to sell them off for $45 dollars at Superstore at the end. I can't believe I didn't buy one then.

Toy commander, Jet Set Radio and Blue Stinger could have lived a little longer :(
Blue Stinger? Really? Okay. I used to have a Dreamcast long ago and lots of decent titles (Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue) but I was poor and a bit of an alky so I sold it. Worst mistake ever(hyperbole). Oddly I've still got the controllers and memory cards plus the Metal Gear Solid and Tekken 3 conversion discs (they played on the Dreamcast doncha know).

OT: Did anyone play D2? Worst + most ridiculous game I've ever played.

OT: Complete sold off (for a song) games list. This makes me cry.

Carrier, D2(sucked), Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm, Evil Dead: Hail to the King, Grandia II, Jet Grind Radio, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, MDK2, NHL 2K2, Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure, Soulcalibur, Spawn: In the Demon's Hand, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Time Stalkers(sucked), Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Toy Commander, plus a couple more I can't remember

I still have a SEGA Genesis in my house somewhere.
I don't know if it works, but along with my NES,SuperNES and N64..I would have a killer setup.

Nowadays they just rerelease Dreamcast games on Xbox Live Arcade.

And I buy them because I am a shameless Sega whore, and my Dreamcast has gone to silicon heaven.
Mines on its way out - massive issues with getting the thing to recognise the disk lid is closed (current solution is to stack about 5 games on top of it).

Oh, you did not just say that.
Unfortunately I think he did. As good as the original JSR was, I just think JSRF is about a billion times better.
