Which is good, but I don't believe that either will even try to hit 120fps. There's not enough returns to justify it.

You can't market a game on how good the frame rate is since that's not something that can be demonstrated in commercials, and for the console users care more about graphics than fps. That's starting to change, but I really doubt any developer is seriously targeting 4k 120fps considering the user base that would notice or care is quite small. Locked 4k 60fps should be the sweet spot for console games, and I still think the majority of games will struggle to hit it.
Nope, they are directly aiming for 120. Can't confirm if that is at 4k though.

It is difficult to market fps more then just shinier graphics, but 144 fps does feel much better then 60 fps.

I don't know why you keep trying to convince me of that. I'm not arguing that point. I know it's better, I'm primarily a PC player with a 1440p 144hz monitor.

And that tweet says that it will "support" 120fps. It doesn't say that the game is being built to run at 120 fps at 4k, which is what you said, and what I disagreed about.

Looks like the Xbox Series X will probably have graphics options to allow you to choose whether you want a high frame rate or better visuals. The PS4 did this with some of the PS3 games that were ported over from the PS3, like The Last of Us. These are good options. This is probably because they're releasing the game on both the PC and Xsex and it's just easier to have one version with all the same graphics settings.

This doesn't mean it'll be 120fps at 4K. It'll probably be 120fps at 1080p (or possible even 720p).

There are a lot of rumors going around that it can run 4k at 120.

And I call bullshit on those rumors.

Considering how you thought it might have to be running at 720p for 120 fps, I'm not surprised you would.
Not thought, think. And I still think it'll probably be running at 1080p or lower to hit 120fps considering it's supposed to be an open world game, because I actually know something about computer hardware.

Here's an article on what kind of components you actually need for a PC to play modern games at 4K 144hz: https://www.pcmag.com/news/ultimate-pc-gaming-what-does-it-take-to-play-at-4k-and-144hz

2 nvidia 2080ti graphics cards in SLI. That's a $1000 graphics card AND YOU NEED 2 OF THEM. Do you actually think that the Xbox Series X is going to be out performing a $3000 pc at a $500 price tag? Really?

And I'm pretty sure that all other Halo games have run at 30fps.

They are still claiming 4k and 120 fps, that article you linked doesn't help since its a year old and we are talking consoles which are not pcs even though the architecture can be similar.

Also, sony and microsoft tend to sell their consoles at a loss and generally hope that cost for production will come down as the consoles life goes on and will make up for it with subscriptions and game sales. Nintendo is the only console maker that doesn't do this.

The article I linked is perfectly relevant. Not a lot has happened in PC hardware in the last year, and the specs for the Xbox Series X were probably finalized well over a year ago (developers have to know what kind of specs they're going to be working with to start developing games for the release). The xbox one and xbox series X are basically PCs, just in a small form factor with bad cooling. The only difference is they're using a custom graphics card, but we can still estimate it's power based on the other components assuming they wouldn't want to bottleneck it.

I'm willing to believe it can run Counter Strike Global Offensive at 4K 120fps, and Valorent, because those are built to run on a toaster, but not modern titles.

And yes, while they're going to be selling the consoles at a loss they aren't going to be selling them at a loss of $1000 a unit.

Well, as much fun as it is to speculate about hardware performance for something I have no interest in getting anyway, its not. So we will just have to see how it performs when it comes out in a few months.

So my question is, how will this work when their whole push this gen is “play anywhere” but there’s the obvious disparity of the XSX crowd having the competitive advantage of double frame rate and probably better WiFi/ping over the X1X peeps?

Well, I think the market for stream games isn't there yet and the console makers have realized that after the stadia failed to wow consumers. But there is certainly a market for the ability to play games on your devices over then just sitting in front of a tv/monitor. Not sure how they will handle that since there is lag that you can't really get rid of. Maybe limit competitive to non streaming? I mean there was this discussion when hd gaming was becoming a thing.

The same way that cross platform play is being handled between consoles and PC in other games. Most people care more about being able to play with their friends regardless of what system they have than care whether their game is fair.

I played Call of Duty Modern Warfare crossplay between PC and Playstation. I played it on PS4 (I got a free copy) and my friends played it on PC. It worked decently well, and while I did have to try much harder, and had sweatier matches overall against PC players it wasn't an insermountable hurdle where I couldn't compete at all.

If you were excited for Halo. You're gonna have to wait until 2021 sometime. Sorry fellas.

Maybe this will give them the time to make the game look better.

While in this case it's more than likely at least partially informed by the poor public reception, I suspect more game delays to pop up in the coming months. Seems things are coming to where the effects of the pandemic is starting to be really felt, including in the tech sector, which games are of course a part of.

Im sure that might be part of it. But games have been delayed throughout the year, and most developers have found ways to keep development going from home. I feel like most developers are pretty adapted to the virus issues by now.

The poor reception is likely a factor. I would imagine they are scrambling to figure out how to try and mitigate it for when the game actually launches. Note they only said 2021 and not any time frame, so technically they could have bought themselves up to an entire year of extra development time to do something about it.
