It's easy to point out an asshole just because he hasn't been laid, but does anyone stop to think about the rationale of that conjecture?

What does virginity have to do with being an asshole?

Not being a virgin is a great stress reliever. If you look at any individual involved in a war, and then give him or her a decent amount of sex, they'll be too busy to go to war. Ergo, sex prevents wars.

The same applies to the sort of person who insults people like this. They're either very very angry and getting none, or not getting enough.

*shrugs*

I stopped using xbox live after hearing everyone pronounce tw@t as twot. Yeah...

1: Does anyone here know anyone whos been banned/warned/suspended from XBL for racism etc? Do MS really act on complaints?
2: Why the hell would you get that worked up over a game?

Patiently awaiting your sage like input...
answer to 1: If it was possible my cousin would have been banned alooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago. He freqently uses racial slurs much worse than what you posted, and hasnt been banned yet. In fact he is 64% preffered.
answer to 2: I dont know, all I know is my cousin gets worked up in W@W when someone runs around with an MP40 with steady aim, dual magazines, and juggernaut. Or other noob moves.

Microsoft really should upgrade the ban hammer; I don't think it is hefty enough. However as people are paying them for Xbox Live, I can see why they are reluctant to wield it with authority as they are effectively slitting their own throats if they start laying the smack down on (paid-up) haters. Still, something should be done.

1. The system is automated based on accumulated complaints of similar nature. Someone I know was banned for maintaining a rep of less than 3 stars for 5 months.

2. They're too emotionally invested, this is common in sports too.
Thats why I don't play team sports. But I don't think he'll be banned.

How? Do you expect them to hire a million people to monitor every word said over XBL? Maybe take every complaint seriously so all it takes is 1 bad rep to get you banned. That way everyone can get each other banned after getting bitter about losing a match.

I have a question for the OP. Why did you not just simply mute him? Why is that never an option when you are dealing with a racist or a homophobe or a 12 yr old kid or a drunk fratboy? IMO MS has done the only thing they can to keep your virgin ears safe from them. Given you the power to mute them. If you don't like it you don't have to listen to it. I don't understand all this whining about MS not keeping you safe when they gave you all the stuff you will need to keep yourself safe from this kinda stuff.

Considering they can find that porn [http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/discoblog/2009/05/01/got-child-porn-stored-in-your-xbox-new-forensic-tool-will-find-it/] so easily hidden on your xbox, I'm pretty sure they can track crap that's being said/typed as well. It'd be nice if companies actually followed through with banning abusers, but then online would be a very lonely place, monetarily.

I would suggest something inbetween the extreme you suggested and what is currently happening, as testified to by the people here. Sure don't ban someone because they got steamed at losing and decided to mouth off, but don't wait until the user has hundreds of complaints before doing something. My brother (who's 28 BTW, so not a whiny kid) got five abusive messages sent to him by one guy and Microsoft simply said "well if he keeps it up, let us know; otherwise ignore him and he'll go away". Sure enough he didn't keep it up and Microsofts common sense approach was understandible, but I couldn't help but wonder how much longer it would have to had continued before they intervened.
There are some absolute fucktards on Live who think they can get away with stuff online because, unlike in the outside world where they'd get their arse handed to them if they said the same thing, there is little chance for reprisal.

When the game ended I was greeted by a not so friendly American with the following response:

"You fucking ****** jew, Ill rape you and your whole ****** family"

When I asked him what was with the race hate he replied:

"What so youre British now? Fuck off back to England and stay off American servers"
It's people like this that give Americans a bad name. I feel humiliated to be in the same country as that guy. Racism is such a problem with the youth here. I will assume he was a teenager, although it could just as easily had been a thirty-something year old. It's depressing to see this kind of stuff. In my experience, Americans seem to be a little louder, and more ruthless with the language. A while back, on CoD4, a group of English kids was playing, and the were making fun of the Twin Towers incident. I guess all of the world has their own douchebags.

Porn is there in your memory. You have to put it there so they can find it with a bit of code. How do you expect them to monitor every word spoken through a mic that leaves no trace. If I wrote you a message then you got me. If I call you a name over my mic how can you prove it? You are in a room with 15 other people who could all potentially be talking. How can any company monitor that kind of traffic?

I don't get it, I've been on Live for about 5 months, and yet I've never had this problem, and I've been on many american servers. Is this just luck?

And why doesn't muting become the first response? As soon as I hear the N word I start looking for the person who said it and mute them. Sure I might die in that time and wait the seconds to respawn. No big deal. So why doesn't everyone else do it? Think about how lonely thier $60 a year XBL will be after everyone starts muting these types of people.

And what happened to us? We used to be manly men and women. We would hunt bears down bare handed while braving blizzards in a loincloth. And now we burst into tears when some anonymous person that we know nothing about, other than some handle and what games they have played, insults us, our race/country or our sexuality. I am not defending thier actions and don't believe that kind of stuff should happen. I just don't get why people need to keep this wheel spinning. If you don't encourage it they won't be able to do it to you.

Think about it as walking into a group of thousands of people and meeting them individually. You are gonna meet people you like and people you don't. I normally find if you treat them with a little respect you will get the same back. Some exceptions do apply.

As others have said before, it is inevitable that at some point in your life, you're going to meet an Internet Tough Guy. Going on to Xbox Live expecting to simply have fun is, unfortunately, an unrealistic expectation. Sure, there's a chance you'll have a fun time...[a href="http://www.4chan.org"]after all, it isn't like there's a training ground for these people[/a]!

It's really disgusting how far some people go with their language, but it's always to illicit a response. As the old saying goes, if you don't feed the trolls, they'll go away. In the end, there's really not a lot Microsoft can do about the situation and it isn't their responsibility to deal with ignorance.

From what I understand, there are three reasons a moderator will find and single out an account for review. I've asked this question to an xbox live representative before (over the phone, you'll likely never find one online)

1. The user has received an unusual amount of negative feedback in one day

2. The user has received enough negative feedback over time/rep score is below three stars for a fixed period of time.

3. The user's rep is 1 star or below.

Other than that, it's chance. Some reviews are dealt with quickly very randomly, a mod happened to see the complaint and took care of it. In most instances, the account is suspended, not banned.

You've got to understand, it's not like Microsoft doesn't care. If you had several million players on your network, it would be very hard to regulate them all. And who's to say you didn't report them because they are better than you, and you're mad. They need to investigate the claim, any proof you can provide helps them out, but generally it's a by numbers thing, if 200 people say you're using foul language, cheating, and using racial slurs, you more than likely are, and they'll respond to those people.

As to why he did it, that I can't say, and is always up to speculation. I personally don't have any problems with anyone who's kind, win or lose. If you kick my ass, and you're on the mic saying "Good match man" I'm gonna smile and nod, and be nice right back. It's how I am, I normally don't care if I lose so long as you're not being a jerk about it, or you didn't play fairly. (and by fairly, I mean without cheating, rarely do I call anything "cheap," though there are certain cases.) I don't get the point in being angry that I lost, maybe a little disappointed in myself, but that's about the size of it. Other people can be really defensive though, and they have this goal where they MUST win, or the game means nothing, and if they lose, it's because you were cheap, or cheated, or because you have no life, the laundry list of excuses goes on for miles.

Point is, not everyone is like that. Keep your head up, find people you like, and make sure to use the avoid player option on people who are rude. You will never see them again, they won't be matched with you or against you, and can never join your game again without your permission under the same gamertag you avoided. It's a nifty trick most people don't seem to use.

This will happen a lot in games, and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't done it once or twice before. There really is nothing you can do about it. I haven't seen anyone banned for this and none of my complaints have ever gone through. All we can do is sit back and ignore it.

i heard there is a lot d bags on xbox live. i never play mutliplayer on the 360 anyway. i mostly play rpgs on the 360. so i don't have that problem. these assholes on live need to grow up . if they lose they need to accept it and get better next time. i could understand if someone loses due to hacks.if that's not the case they need to grow. i remember back when a little kid where i died at a game a 100 times before i won once. if they dont like losing they need to practice.

That is a LIE! Do you know how many politicians get sex regularly from spouse/prostitutes? Something is always around when you have that much of my tax money. That doesn't keep em from challenging foreign interests and governments with the might of the military industrial complex.

OK that may have been a bit dramatic, but I hope you get my point. Sex has has only a minor impact on how much of an asshat you can be. Truth is most of the people on xbox live are between the ages of 15-24 and DO get sex often. most of them are in college and get it often. But when you put competitiveness mixed with the anonymity of the internet and the invincible state of mind a college frat boy who parties 4 nights a week and plays xbox at 3 am EST... They will be assholes.

You should check out pc gaming. mute the assholes, block the servers with em, and you dont have to pay xbox live prices and markup for anything...
