In a posting, Microsoft spokesperson Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb explained the hike:

"Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We're confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.
Wait, what. Isn't PSN free? Does XBL have a lot more stuff on it? What he is saying doesn't make sense to me.
Yes it is. Yes it does.
I kind of like the aesthetic more, but other then the Mii rip-offs I'm not aware of any features the PS3 lacks.
I agree I hear all this XBL is better "Moar content " and all that bull but other than he old Xbox games and few exclusive arcade games everything is available on the PSN. PSn also hs great ps1 titles, PSN arcade games like Joe Danger to offer.
Ok i first want to make this clear i have a ps3 and since im kinda a cheap scate i use my ps3 for multiplayer. Now XBL in general is a better service its faster and smoother then the PSN. It also has better matchmakeing systems.

Not really something to be mad about. Sure it's M$, and boy do we love to make fun of their money-grubbing ways (Alongside Activision), but cmon, it's only one dollar, so it doesn't really change much.

ITT: People getting annoyed at having to spend $10 more a year than they do now.

Seriously, that's a couple of drinks on a night out. For a whole year.

It makes as much sense to me as people refusing to join the Publishers Club because of it's annual fee.

Until PSN adds all the chat/party features that are standard on Live, I can never respect it as a competitor in online networks. I'm a very social gamer you see, and if I can't have my friends in the same room, then I want at least 5 of 'em talking to me regardless of what we're each playing.

Meh 1$ isn't a difference
Take all of the people that use live monthly and that is how much more money they are going to make every week.

That's why I bought a PS3. If you don't play online, I don't see the point in Xbox live. I don't, (as I prefer games with real stories and interesting characters) and I opted to get the PS3 because of that. But why are they hiking it? PSN is free, and that's been updating itself for a while now.

all the games you can get on ps3 are on xbox... and metal gear solid and little big planet do not count.... their games in the same way swimming is a sport...

and no im not a live fanboy ... tbh i dislike live and never paid for it again after the first subscription...

Big whoop. It's still worth the cost to me.

Prices go up. That's life. Get used to it. (Anyone who has a car will likely nod knowingly.)

I don't think it will affect much at all. But honestly with PSN being a primary free service, you'd think microsoft would DROP the price of live in order to try to eliminate that argument of "PSN is better because it is free." But meh, it hasn't gone up in Australia yet, but I still might go out and buy a year next pay check...

As long as they don't change the price for 1 year subscriptions I don't really care.
Who pays per month/ three months anyway? Year long subscriptions are way cheaper.

An extra $10 on my yearly subscription? I guess it doesn't matter too much. Larry Hyrb is still a huge douche though, any time I hear about that guy I just picture his face and I want to punch it. He reminds me of all the crazy 10 year olds on Live who are willing to do anything for Microsoft points...>_>

All you got to do is save a dollar a day for 10 weeks and your good to go man, buy the card and hold onto it until you need to use it.
