I think Zynga would lose most people on xbox live once they realize they can't teabag in Farmville.

I guess teaching wives and mums how to turn on a xbox and explaining what the controller is will be too much hard work for zynga.

Who says the inaccessibility of consoles doesnt have its advantages

The real reason is that nobody who has a proper games console will want to play games like Farmville because there is much better -- of that 30 million number, maybe 5 million would ber even slightly interested, and of that only a tiny fraction would buy it.

But his logic here is still pretty off on the other end -- he implies that facebook has 500 million potential players, and yet almost everyone I know wouldn't even consider playing games on facebook, or at least don't admit it.
Every time either of my roommates mention facebook games I want to defenistrate them. The worst time is when they fight over it. I'm quite tempted to leave and call the cops the next time it gets physical.

In terms of business, this is incredibly short-sighted, riding on one service in which they don't own. If Facebook declines in popularity, then Zynga will be in serious trouble. Better to diversify now and survive than to collapse later.

It seems that Zynga have become Trolls of the gaming world. They seem to think if they shout at consoles long enough they will go away.
They dont appear to understand the hardcore gamer audience at all. As fun as poker is, I still prefer an immersive JRPG.

Personally I find playing games on Co op far more social than Cityville ever could be.

Facebook and mobile phones may be more "inherently social" but Zynga's games arn't.
Lol. Who was it again that said facebook games were among the most antisocial games in existence?
Rather than encouraging social interaction, they encourage you to exploit your existing friends as some kind of 'resource'.

Heh. Makes sense really.

Good. Stay off my consoles, god damn scammers.

Why would I even want to play Farmville or some shite when I have a drawer filled with games that don't suck horribly for just this very system, anyway?

90% of his friends have smart phones? Really? Either I am really behind the times or he's good at making up statistics.
80% of statistics are made up on the spot.
It's actually 77%, but you know, whatever.

Here's a bad thought: what if Zynga bundled their games with the Kinect stuff. Talk about a shovelware overload.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Good move Zynga! They shouldn't put their games on the 360 and PS3, because the population IS too small.

I don't mean the population of people who own either console though. I mean the population of people who'd actually be stupid or desperate enough to buy one of their shit games when there's SIGNIFICANTLY better ways to spend ones time on either machine.

Zynga trying to sell their games on a console is like trying to sell dog biscuits at a bake sale. Good luck!

I can see the point in a way, xbox live (~35m users ever, most users online ~2m) is smaller than just steam (30m users in the last 30 days, most users online ever ~3.7m) for example. But it's still a decent market! They'd still make millions, even if millions is pocket change to them.
